I'm sorry, how can this possible be worth $3k

    Ridiculous.

    • Worth is very subjective, but these type of ovens vary in price some are $1000, some are $5000. Just depends on how much you value traditional wood fire cooking without building some big outdoor concrete/brick dome.

      • +1

You don't need to spend $3k to make fantastic wood fired pizza.

        • This is correct

        • what are you recommending instead?
BTW this is not a “pizza only” oven

    • If you can afford to buy individual pizza ingredients then 3k is nothing

    • Its basically a commercial oven, not many people would use this for at home cooking (unless youre cashed up). The Arc XL is the smaller version and does everything you'd need at home.

      • Not true, they are marketed as "commercial-grade" but they are meant to be used for home use, just like the Arc or Arc XL.There is a huge community who is using them at home over the world, and there are also some small businesses(eg pizza trucks) who are using them with great success. I haven't seen any commercial ovens with only one pizza capacity at a time. Also IMHO, Arc XL doesn't do everything you would need at home as it's not dual fuel.

Waiting for an Arc XL deal

    • Same. Ready to pull the trigger when there's some sort of bargain to be had.

      • Do the Arc XLs come up in the Father's Day annual Gozney sale at BBQs Galore?

    • you can get 10% off all the time through the Gonzey website using a referal code

      • If anybody has a referral to offer, I would appreciate it!

I thought bbq galore closed down??

  • I own the 1st gen, still going strong and worth the money IMHO. You can cook pretty much anything(that you can fit in), very easy to use and versatile. Cheap to run compared to bigger woodfired ovens and heating up much quicker(not same heat retention though)

  • I don't eat pizza much and I won't buy a 2699 Pizza oven.
But I do spend a lot of money on a coffee machine.

So doing the same maths, a very decent pizza shop near my house charges 47 dollars for a "Trio Deal", which is 3 large pizzas and a homemade garlic bread roll.
2699 is 57.43 of those deal, plus pizza material cost and fuel, let's make it 100 "Trio Deal" or let's say 300 pizzas.
You will have to make 300 pizzas in the life time to consider this worth your while
I think if I like pizza as much as I like dumplings, making 300 pizzas for a 4+ people family is not unrealistic, plus you can cook other stuff in it too.

plus, if you have a lot of enemies
I highly recommend chop them up and cremate them in a large oven, this oven looks fine for that purpose too.

I have an Arc XL. One thing I greatly underestimated was the amount of fun/socialising you have with a machine like this. Always good to have a pizza night with friends and family, have some drinks, play some board games etc.

Cheaper ones will do a good job too I'm sure, but I think it was a worthy buy.

      • This +1000

+1 for this. I bought an Ooni Koda 16 (admittedly a different league to this, I think I got it for around $600), and my parents told me I had wasted my money, never going to get value out of it, blah blah blah. After 1 attempt of cooking pizza in it? Completely converted. Weekly pizza ritual. 100's of pizzas in at this point.

(oh, and the first attempt was…… not great. Edible, but not great lol.)

        • I got the same oven off marketplace for $500. Been one of the best purchases I've made. We'll have pizza night once a week, for 2 of us we'll make 4 pizzas. one to have that night and one left for a night during the week (heated up in the air fryer). Its fun learning to make the dough and how to cook the pizzas, changing ingredients etc.

@danzig440: I think that was much of the allure for my dad. Learning the new skill (temp control, turning with a pizza peel, etc)

            • +1

@ASR-Briggs: Opens up a whole new world. I'm hooked on adding honey and chilli onto my pizzas at the moment.

Have you seen Bluey - Hammerbarn episode?

I have made easily more than 300 pizzas since my Gozney arrived 4 years ago! Plus bread, focaccia, slow cooked lamb, picanha, tomahawk steaks using either gas, wood or both. Chickpeas, all vegetables, stuffed vegetables pasta bakes, fish, prawns, apple pies and so much more! I ended up using the Dome more than my BBQ. Sure, one can buy cheaper pizza ovens, some use a pizza stone in their electric oven, some just the airfryer. My roommate when I was at uni (in Italy!) used to enjoy his frozen pizza uncooked with a glass of Chianti 🤷‍♂️

      • What kind of pot/pan are you using? I've only got a Ooni Koda 16, not as much height as the dome but I'd like to start cooking some other stuff in it

        • +2

I have broken a ceramic pan in it(Chickpeas) and made a mess, used too much heat. Good news the oven cleans itself if you leave it for 30min on 500 Celsius.
I normally use lodge cast iron griddle and round pan, a round white enameled pan, carbon steel pan and a Tuscan cast iron grill for bistecca alla fiorentina over the firewood. Not using pizza trays unless the pizza is too delicate to manage.

      • Curious - I only have a Roccbox but every time I think about cooking on it more regularly outside of a pizza cook, is the pre-heat time. Has that been a bother for you, or are you just more organised at getting it fired up ahead of time?
It probably wouldn't be that hard, to be fair, but it always does sit in my brain as a barrier.

        • +1

my gas preheating time is 30 minutes(15’ on low and 15’ on high to prevent stone cracking), but I use
the door to cover the opening 70-80%(never fully closed on gas). It takes me more than 30 minutes to prepare the dough and toppings area, so that works for me :)
Sometimes I throw in aluminium foil wrapped potatoes while preheating or after the cooks, utilising the residual heat

          • +1

@GregFiona: All of this is smart! I think for the Roccbox I need about 50mins or so to really get the stone up to temp (15 on low and 35 on high), and likely because there's not a door option. But honestly I'm usually not ready to throw a pizza in the door at 50 mins, so it's not likely actually an issue, I just need to try it out more.
            Love the potatoes idea!

  • Expired already? The traeger one shows 947 for me.

  • Anything for the Dome XL Gen 2?
