C5 42" is down to $1,191 or so but I'm waiting for a bit better than that.

    • -1

Yep, looking sub $1k for new monitor / console gamer.

      • Do you think it will ever get that low? Just checked C4 and I could only find deals posted for $1196 or higher.

        • It's also HN, so prepared to take that risk

        • +1

It got down to about $1,000 a couple of months back with it's lower clearance price + a stacked coupon at one of the big retailers, I just wasn't ready to grab it yet!

The risk is that eventually they get rid of all the clearance units before you get another decent sale and then it's back to waiting a year for the C6 to go low.

          • @OpenHand: Yeah, I got a C4 42 for $960 with a clearance sale and external discount methods. Excellent PC monitor.

Good deal here - JB price matched to $1,159 + a $100 gift card if you can use it.

          • @OpenHand: Yep thanks, got it "matched" to 1150 and used $100 of free vouchers (cc rewards)+ $100 kickback. Just set it up and checking out the LG channels

    No 83" of the C6?

Edit: looks like it does exist, but just not a part of this sale.

  • +2

why would anyone get the C6 for an extra $1200 to $1600?

    • +4

If its the 77" or 83" C6, those actually use the newer hyper radiant panels (better brightness and colours) which puts it closer to a G class - some would argue better than a G5, i think the jury is still out on that till more reviews and data.

I'm still looking for reasons to upgrade my LG CX from 2020 but I can't really find one in my particular use case.
Always dark or heavily shaded bedroom, Only accumulated 4600 hours and still no burn-in.
App's I use are still being supported.

LG are really making it hard for me to give them my $$$

Most of the generational benefits are AI and brightness related. Great improvements but nothing to make me upgrade just yet.
I've noticed that good quality OLED's are like flagship phones, Once you have one they'll do the job just fine for a long time.

    • You gain a bit of brightness (which I think is only due to a better heat sink), and you lose DTS audio support.

As for flagship… Not so sure. At 4500 hrs, yours is still a young pup.. about a 3rd of average life. Currently looking at a 11k hrs unit…and its gone green. Also common to see some delamination and dead pixels around the edges….Vs a 15yr old backlit Pana that still looks and performs the day it came out the box. Sony and a Chinesium same. Still the same as new at around 20k hrs each.

The population of the EPS/ TVGuide also annoys me. Doesn't populate the whole thing until you visit the missing channel.

4k hdr is the ducks guts. But upscaled FTA, there are others that do it better. Definitely not a longevity technology. Organic LEDs will always degrade. But again, can't beat it for HDR 4k.

        dead pixels around the edges

Yep, this is my C9 from Sept 2019. I wrote to LG and they said, yea, nah, not our problem, it lasted long enough.
See my forum post about it here.

I haven't had time to pursue due to life commitments.

        • Thankfully I got mine replaced for free for similar issues a few years ago.

          • @theguyrules: Wow, okay, that's good. What process did you follow? How old was it at the time of claim?

            • +1

@Lord Ra: Looking at my emails, I called LG and then emailled them photos and they took it from there.
It would have been 2.5 years old at the time. Now it is over 6 years old, with I guess a 3.5ish year old panel, and no issues.

              • @theguyrules: Ah yes, that makes a lot more sense, the timeline of 2.5 years, vs mine, which is a lot older. Fingers crossed it stays that way with you. 🙂

      • Gone green!!! WTF.

    • +4

I’m in the exact boat as you
People are still wow’d at my tv lol, and I’m like yeah it’s six years old and they are always surprised

Gonna keep using it until it dies on me and then will go from 65 to 83

    • +1

Just hang onto it mate. You don’t need to waste your cash on something you honestly won’t notice. I have a C4 and C8. They really aren’t that different except the 120hz hdmi 2.1. Otherwise it’s a wash.

I also have a S90D QD OLED, also awesome, it’s a bit brighter. But again I ain’t selling one to get the other.

    • Still powering through with my c9 and it's bloody awesome, no incentive to upgrade and still looks great

      • Heyyy, me too!
C9 from Sept 2019. However, I do have dead pixels all around the edges of all four sides of the TV and a few on the main screen too.
See my post here. Do you have any dead pixels? @maverickjohn

        • Have some pixels on the edges that are stagnant but not as bad as what your examples show. As a whole it takes little away from the experience.
Your one seems worse yours are also in the middle of the screen which is not an issue I have.
If tv can hold until end of this year, i'll pick up a 77 c6 if closer to 3k on bf. My tv has done 9240 hours and is still working well
          https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/70816/128417/20260410_…
In the bottom middle is about all I can see as potentially dead pixels

          • +1

@maverickjohn: I can see the same along the top of your image as well. Not sure if that's just image artefacts or really dead pixels. I really had to go looking for mine, with different wallpapers and certain youtube videos. You have double my hours, luck you! 😁

    • I'm in much the same boat. I want to trade my 2020 65" Pana OLED to a 77" with eARC. More for the size than the eARC. But the picture is still brilliant.

      • Hi mate, shot you a PM if you are trading in your working pana,

    • +1

I'm still rocking a C7 from way back when. Only really meaningful upgrade for me would be the VRR support but can't justify a whole new TV just for that.

      • Ive got a B8 and im in basically the same boat. keep telling myself i might upgrade when the current gen is <$2K for a 55" but its suiting my needs just fine for now. palm the B8 off to my parents who have a samsung LED telly covered in hotspots.

      • Still on OG C6 and C7 here. Definitely due for an upgrade soon.

    • CX ftw! Bought one back in 2020 myself and had to have a panel replaced under warranty due to this dead pixel cancer that was on it. New panel has been great and no issues since. No incentive to upgrade at all.

      • How bad was that?
My C9 got edges deteriorated but it looks like it is the same for everyone else… :|

        • Yeah it was pretty bad but most noticeable at the top left and bottom of the panel. When the tech came out on-site with the replacement panel, he looked at it and said "oh $h!t, that's pretty bad". LG replaced it all under warranty though, just took a bit of back and forth with them to ensure I did the tests they wanted and I provided photos etc etc.

    • Agreed. I'm at 10k hours but it's started shutting down periodically, otherwise it's still perfect picture quality.

      • EDIT: WHY did I jinx this. It died last night. Will try and replace the PSU / mobo..

    • My Oled BX has 21,400 hours and has only in the last 6 months started to have some ghosting.

    • I'd say wait it out. The longer you wait, the better the improvement.

LG are really good at customer care too, my CX was starting to die around the edges of the screen and I contacted them to see what could be done. Out of warranty and was expecting to have to pay for a replacement panel but they ended up organising a free replacement service after some photos and videos. Very impressed as it gave me a brand new CX panel that will easily last for years.

      • Wow, that's interesting. How bad was that?
My panel is about 6 years old - deterioration is visible around edges but I just assumed it is "expected wear and tear" and never tried to bother customer service.

        • It looked like a green encroaching haze of pixels. Would put a pic up but not sure how

  • Gorgeous

  • Do these experience burn-in?

    • +1

doubtful, had mine for 5 years. Nothing

  • What's the criteria for trade in?

  • +2

Trade-in? Do I have to give them my old tv back?

    • This is a serious question, I am not joking. :)

  • +1

Still love my 83" G4 I got a couple of years back. Best big purchase I have ever done

  • So what does Harvey Norman do with all the old traded in tv’s? Seems like it would be a hassle for them to dispose of.

  • Want to upgrade my c7 in the living room but after one panel change in 2020-2021ish (burn in, claimed warranty under acl), it is still working perfectly fine :3

  • +2

is there literally no detail on the trade-in or is it just me ? can i trade in my old 27" monitor (TV lol) for example to receive a $450 discount?

EDIT looks like you simply apply the code on checkout like any voucher, and can pay with the discount applied .. no mention at all how the trade-in works or is verified, perhaps it isn't! weird.

    • That's a very good thought indeed! I have a Dell gaming monitor that I need to sell… Hmm…

    • I did it last year to get a 42" C5, you literally just hand over any tv to the delivery guys and that's it. They don't care the size or make as long as its a tv or even large monitor, they don't really take any note of it. they just take it off of you. Probably for some environment carbon credit scheme LG has going on.

  • The trade in is confusing. If they can buy back my oled C2 for a good price I'd be happy to upgrade 😂

  • +3

Time to pick up an old TV from council cleanup.

  • I have an old 47 working Panasonic plasma (UK) if anyone needs it for a trade-in 😊

  • Link mentions nothing about trade-in

  • Worth upgrading from a C3? my C3 is perfectly fine and snappy with the OS.
