Thanks Op! got the offer. I literally rely on OZB to check my yello offers.

    • +1

I literally have never seen an offer like this.. 😢

  • -1

meh, Amex has 10% back up to $20

    • +4

Still 10% overall. Anyway, I've got Amex offers too. so it does not hurt.

    • +16

      Why not both?

  • +2

Can the grocery one be used at colesworth or aldi? The listed retailers list doesn't work

    • +2

yes. works at mercents with the MCC code for the superamarket.

    • +2

i use mine at Aldi because they don't have discounted gift cards

      • same here. I hate the fact that they don't do split payments tho. makes it harder to manage the remaining GC value.

        • Is it easy enough to use remainder at coles/woolies?

          • +1

@Owgasm: Yeah just few extra tap on the screen to do split payment

      • Does Aldi charge you surcharge like a credit card?

        • +2

          Yes.

ALDI surcharges any payments routed through the Mastercard or Visa networks, and Special gift cards only operate on the Mastercard network.

          • +3

@WookieMonster: From 1 October 2026,Ā Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) reformsĀ will ban surcharges on all debit, prepaid, and credit card payments across Visa, Mastercard, and eftpos networks. This ban aims to eliminate hidden fees.

    • +1

It also works at some (not all) Asian grocery shops because of their MCC codes.

    • +1

I used the Supermarket Slayer card at Coles today.

    • Yeh, and because it's a prepaid credit card I'm guessing should be able to purchase other gift cards with it there, but need confirmation here as I have only ever used the Special Woolies card to purchase Wish card so could use elsewhere)

  • Over a year Gold with Yello and still not one cashback offer!

  • +1

Gold, no offer for me this time :(

  • +1

No love this time from CBA!

Have been cycling through "Specials" from Amex, CBA Yello, NAB Goodies since late last year. Am I missing anyone else doing these?

  • What is the best sort of Specials GC?

    • +2

Explorer - fuel and Supermarket slayer - groceries.

    • +4

supermarket slayer, you can use in most supermarkets inc aldi i believe

      • nice, did not aware that aldi is included.

        • +2

it works based on MCC so you can use it even at smaller independent fruit shop or Asian supermarket

      • Previously this can also be used for in store gift cards if Coles WW have any good offers coming up with bonus points.

        • So not anymore now?

Not sure if this can work with the 10% everyday mobile discount— I plan to get a Boost Mobile prepaid plan at WWS.

          • @btobytoby1995: I think it should still work with 10% discount, but I haven't used this time yet

          • +1

@btobytoby1995: it should work. That discount is applied before payment. A special gift card in your digital wallet is just seen as a card payment.

  • Never get anything. Why can’t they just offer it to everyone?

  • +3

    $10 off $100

  • +2

    Thanks OP
    I've got a 10$ off on 100$ offer.

On an tangential note, why would anyone buy from the special gift card website without any offers like these?
You've got to sign up on their website and download the app which seems like an unnecessary exercise just to use the gift card.

    • +4

Once you have everything set up, it is actually a much smoother experience compared with other gift cards.
You just tap and pay with the card via NFC on your phone and effectively treat it like a bank card that you can only spend at certain shops.

With the more conventional approach with Coles or Woolworths gift cards, you sometimes have to cancel the default payment method first (some shops default to card payments, some don't) and then specifically select the option for gift card/store credit.

I've always struggled with getting certain family members to use traditional gift cards because of this, but it is not a struggle at all with Special gift cards because I can just add it to their phone, temporarily set it as the default NFC card and then swap it back to their bank card once they've returned.

It's also much easier to check the remaining balance because the purchase history is all there in Google Wallet/Apple Pay, rather than being forced to go to a website, enter gift card details and manually keep track of the remaining card balance.

So I can see that at some point in the future, corporations who wish to give away some gift cards to employees may opt to use Special's technology rather than go with conventional gift cards that are more finicky.

This obviously doesn't account for any potential fees that Special may charge.
I definitely wouldn't charge the same amount as my competitors if I had a more advanced system.

      • It's also much easier to check the remaining balance because the purchase history is all there in Google Wallet/Apple Pay, rather than being forced to go to a website, enter gift card details and manually keep track of the remaining card balance.

Problem is it still doesn't show card balance on Google wallet/apple pay, so you still need to manually work it out (if not wanting to use Special app).

        • In the modern world with all the elevated inflation from recent years, it doesn't take that many shops to deplete a $150-200 card.

Given a relatively low number of transactions, it's not terribly difficult to do some basic mental maths to have a rough idea of how much money is left.

Of course, you can always use the Special app/website to check for sure but it's the weakest part of the experience at the moment.

        • +1

After each purchase, I renamed the card using the balance - eg, if my balance is $100.50, my card name is oneHundredAndFifty

  • ok some people with gold didn't get it but surpsingly this time around (im gold) its in my cba yello

as always my rant with cba is they make billions of profit, give this to every customer why have to be targetted…

    • as always my rant with cba is they make billions of profit, give this to every customer why have to be targetted…

Because they can make even more profit if they "lock in" customers by forcing them to play silly games with upgrading Yello tiers.

Merely being satisfied with making a "very high" amount of profit is not good enough when the option for "maximum" profit at any cost is available.
That is how the modern capitalist neoliberal world works.

There's also an argument to be had that you are not entitled to these offers and that they should be considered "extras" on top of your CommBank account, not an automatic guarantee.
If this upsets you, you are free to swap to another bank.

      • it upsets me but i'm cbf changing banks just because i didn't get the deal when others got it too + been with cba since uni days so im just lazy to move my accounts to another bank and all that admin work

as i said i just get annoyed that cba doesn't give it to everyone but anyhow

        • it upsets me but i'm cbf changing banks just because i didn't get the deal when others got it too + been with cba since uni days so im just lazy to move my accounts to another bank and all that admin work

As per my comment about the modern capitalist neoliberal world, there is no incentive for CBA to offer any of these extras to you if there are no consequences to them.
As you have said yourself, you will stick with them no matter what and are too lazy to switch.

as i said i just get annoyed that cba doesn't give it to everyone but anyhow

Giving it to everyone is a waste of money.
Targeting it to people they believe may be open to leaving them is smarter, because they spend the money where it is needed to retain customers, not on people who have effectively "married" themselves to CBA such as yourself.

The overall point is that if you are lazy with your choice as a consumer, expect laziness in return when it comes to customer retention efforts.

  • Do these actually work?

Bought a supermarket one last time, couldn’t upload it to Apple Wallet so I contacted them and without consulting me, they just refunded it. I was going to try uploading it to a family member’s Google Wallet instead but it was cancelled before I could do that.

    • +2

      Yes, they absolutely do work.

I uploaded this image as part of this response in August 2025.

As the image shows, it works for smaller grocers as well as the standard big 3.

Also note how I deliberately avoided shopping at Colesworth until the very end, since it is relatively easy to get dedicated gift cards for the big 2, so I saved most of the Special gift cards for ALDI + smaller grocers first and only went with Colesworth near the end because they allow for split transactions at self checkout.

My Special gift card account has 15 cards on it, 12 of them are empty and the most recent 3 have some remaining balance on it (soon to be 4 after this deal).
I've had no issues with them apart from the crappy inefficient way their website and mobile app checks all the cards on initial login.

      • Thank you for confirming. I didn’t get an offer this time but will take it up the next time.

I’m going to use the family member’s Google Wallet this time as I’m aware Apple Wallet is a mess with a lot of gift card providers.

    • I had the same issue. Apple Wallet gave no email or SMS verification options, so it was impossible to complete setup. Very frustrating. Contacted support and got a refund.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm, if you can buy Ultimate gift card from woolies with Supermarket Slayer?

    • +1

I've used it for gift cards at Coles. I don't think the supermarkets can know that it is a "gift card"

    • +1

Yep, did it yesterday. This is just a prepaid debit card tied to Merchant codes, use it the exact same way you'd use your debit/credit-card in your Digital Wallet.

  • Can I use any of these in costco? Supermarket one perhaps?

    • +2

It depends on which Costco you are talking about, and where in Costco you are wanting to make a payment.

The OzBargain community has reported at least four different MCCs being used in different parts of physical Costco stores, and I have not seen any reports of the MCC for the Costco website.

I am assuming you are most interested in making a purchase at the main checkout area (where you pay for groceries, etc)? If so, I am not aware of any Special gift cards allowing transactions at MCC 5300 (Wholesale Clubs). Someone reported in late 2025 that the Supermarket Slayer gift card did not work for them at Costco, and it was likely the person was trying to use it at the main checkout area. AFAIK, Costco has never been classified as a supermarket.

      • +1

        Thank you.

  • finally got this one again after a year

  • +1

    Mine is $10 of $100

  • Amazon GC cannot be had using this

    • Get the explorer one - You can buy amazon GCs at EG Ampol fuel stations

      • Damn, I missed it. Bought grocery GC to make 160$ purchase to earn 6400 points

      • Which EG Ampol did you find Amazon gift cards in?
I was under the impression that all physical Amazon gift cards had been phased out since the end of last year.

        • +1

I was under the impression that all physical Amazon gift cards had been phased out since the end of last year.

You're correct but there may be a few stragglers here and there, although whether they're still purchasable is another matter.

True Rewards For Him and For Her gift cards are still sold at Ampol Foodary, BP, OTR and United service stations and they can be swapped for a lot of other gift cards including Amazon.

  • I opened my CommBank app and it's showing … nothing in the offers at all? just "We're working on exciting new offers for you" ?

  • how long does it take for the bonus to be credited? Bought it via Apple pay a few days ago and still haven't receive the cashback.

    • Not sure that paying via Apple Pay would be valid.
Terms and conditions exclude payments made via third party payment providers such as google pay. Am pretty certain apply pay would fall under this.

      • I paid via Apple pay and got the cashback in 7 working days.

      • I always pay using Google Pay for any Yello offers that I use in store and the cashback tracks. I've found that Yello takes a little while to process the transaction and payout the cashback.

I've been spoiled by the <48hr turnaround time of most AmEx statement credits so CBA Yello and NAB Goodies taking a week feel like an eternity.
