Aren’t they soldered on, so can’t be upgraded?

    • +15

You can't. It even says so in the post

  • +5

more worried about the battery. replacement is near impossible….

    • +1

on excellent units battery health will be 80% or higher. Battery replacement is possible (though not easy) as these units can be opened up (unlike surface laptop 1 and 2)

      • +3

What is the battery health on good?

        • -2

65% to 80% on 'good' units

          • @untech: thanks

          • @untech: 65% is a concern though, although not surprising given how old these are. I am assuming these are circa 2019.

The ifixit guide on replacing the battery in this thing is frightening. It's pretty much a complete disassembly guide to get there.

I had one very similar in silver colour assigned to me for work a few years ago.
Was ok to use if just working solo on office docs and I did like that it was quite small and light
But absolute garbage when needed to run longer meetings and workshops with groups via Teams.

    • Why was it garbage using Teams for longer meetings?

      • Mine struggled with presenting and having multiple docs and browser windows (wasn’t too many) open at the same time. I had it docked with 2 QHD monitors via a hp dock.

      • Because it's Teams. Even the i7-13700H in my work laptop struggles with it.

I like how it doesn't have a copilot button.

Good for school kids. These are pretty solid and robust

    • -2

Not really. The screen in one of these was destroyed after my kid dropped it. I have bought a second hand Thinkpad as a replacement. Not as pretty, but solid build.

Beware as this is marked as 'good' condition. I received a 'good' condition dynabook from a previous deal and it had a 2 inch scratch across the screen. Was told it is caused by the keyboard (total BS) and quite normal with 'good' condition laptops.

Nowhere in the condition description does it say potential scratches on the screen. If it did I wouldn't have purchased and most people wouldn't. Even the 'fair' description doesn't mention screen scratches but for that one at least mentions dents, case scratching etc.

They have agreed to refund based on 'my change of mind' rather than an unacceptable scratch. Still a waste of time and mucking around for me, plus now having to find another school laptop for my daughter which won't be through UNtech. YMMV but for me a scratch like that across the screen is unacceptable.

      • If he didn't post here what would happen to his issue?

        • -4

a full refund was already offered as mentioned in his comment

          • +15

@untech: Change of mind refund, no? So another customer likely got the same product advertised exact same way? Instead of downgrading the description.

  • does 1 year warranty cover battery ?

  • -8

    Intel is so yesteryear

  • The keyboards on these are a synthetic fabric feel. They get gunk on them very easily and the look worn quite quickly. If these have been plugged into a dock its whole life then it'll be ok imo.

    • +2

the black ones have aluminum and not Alcantara fabric

  • +2

Display (2256 × 1504) - makes these stand out from the usual refurbs.

  • -5

should get a mac neo for slightly more money 719

    • +10

      You mean nearly double?

  • good deal, never had an issue with UNTech,
a surface laptop 2 has been my daily laptop for a long time but the 8GB ram is getting a bit tired, 16GB should hold for a while, well built devices in general.

  • +1

Is the bios / boot loader unlocked so you can install linux on it?

Have bought two separate units from this mob and both were unacceptable condition. The first unit was scratched beyond all hell with screen damage and the second unit had large marks across the screen, waste of time and money.

    • +6

Thats really bad.. Scratches on screen should absolutely be noted, even in fair condition. Nobody minds a little dent or mark around the body but screen scratches if noticble should always be noted, for obvious reasons. Best stay clear of anything below excellent with this mob so.

      • +6

Seems like they consider screen scratches "cosmetic wear".
As in, the previous user was Edward Scissorhands doing his thesis.

I also just received a "good" dynabook with a screen scratch :(

I bought the Surface 3 for around $600 second hand 3 years ago, has been going strong and I use it for uni purposes. Great laptop, good touchscreen.

Fun fact it can charge off of the INIU 10000mAh mini portable chargers.

    Cons:
    - max brightness good but will struggle outdoors
    - would be nice if it could open to a wider angle
    - Bezel is large for this day and age
    -

  • Does it comes with receipt?

  • Does it charge using usb c?

  • Am i blind… I can not find where to enter the code during checkout

    • On the check out page where you enter your address. The discount code box is above the subtotal.

      • Cheers. Discount box doesn't appear if you try to purchase other items at the same time (i had a BT keyboard in my cart)

  • Bought a similar one of these a year or two ago, i7 for less. Has been doing great for school aged kids.
