[Refurbished] Apple MacBook Air 13: M4 16GB/256GB $1239 Delivered @ Apple

1040

For those who missed it, the 13.6 inch M4 16gb/256gb Macbook air is back for $1239 and with the apple gift card deal in a few days will bring the total down to $1115.

They also have some m2 models but they only have 8gb of ram so i'd stear clear of them and probably go for a neo instead through AOC with apple gift cards.

This is my first post and I have an assignment due in a few hours so if there is anything missing please let me know.

Good price. Still using my M1/8GB/256GB and quite happy with it for now.

  • Could you please provide a bit more detail about the Apple gift card? Thank you.

  • -3

FYI Apple no longer replace the batteries on refurbished MacBooks.

    • Really? Find that very surprising. So they’re happy for customers to get a device with 89% battery health and 213 cycles? Seems crazy and ruins their refurb market

    • +1

I believe Apple do but NOT on 3rd party Apple refurb - so make sure you buy direct from Apple! If I’m wrong; share proof please as it’s stated on the website it does and a full warranty and opportunity to add AppleCare too.

      • +2

Apple still do. Got a refurb M2 and it was a new battery with 0 cycles.

      • +5

“You will receive a refurbished device with genuine Apple replacement parts (as needed) that has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected. Refurbished iOS devices will come with new battery and outer shell. Every device will come with all accessories, cables and operating systems. footnote 1 All Apple Certified Refurbished products are packaged in a brand new white box and will be sent to you with free shipping and returns.”

Only iOS devices get new batteries.

That's not what your link says - they will absolutely swap the battery for a MacBook if it needs it.

genuine Apple replacement parts (as needed)

If the battery is perfectly healthy ? It's not "as needed".

          • @Nom: But how do you know where Apple defines healthy? 100 cycles? Most likely you’ll be fine with just a handful of cycles. But I’m not taking risk. Rather pay a bit more from the AOC store and get new.

            • @ompa-lompa:

But how do you know where Apple defines healthy?

You don't need to know this - if the battery is not fine they will fix it, just like every other part in the refurb process 🤷

              It's a refurb. It's fine.

    • +5

I bought the M4 Air two weeks ago from the Apple Refurbished site and mine had 3 cycles on it… Close enough to new for me.

    • Source please? Or trust me bro 🤡🤡?

    • +14

      Take a breath mate

Also unless you're doing some very specialist work 128GB is an absurd amount of RAM

      • I9 9th gen💔🥀

    • +1

I have just bought the 14” M5 Pro 64GB 2TB and love it. I think based on your experience that it was more than you were willing to spend or afford. What sort of tasks are you doing on it?

    • +3

      Are you OK?

      • no no, its not that time of the year yet, we can't ask that.

    • +1

What's it like WFH for CERN on a laptop?

  • +1

    +1 for your dedication!

  • Are Apple Refurbished considered Excellent or Good condition or is it pot luck what you get ?

    • +3

Excellent condition. They have rigorous checks before they sell it back to us as consumers

Like they change the casings or batteries with new parts

Bought an iPad Pro from them a few years ago, and everything came as new condition

      • -1

They don’t swap the batteries for MacBooks only iOS devices.

      • +3

Not just excellent, mint / pristine condition.

    • +2

Perfect, flawless, new condition. I’ve bought heaps of them over the last 15 years, all as new with brand new batteries like they’ve never been touched.

      • +1

Exactly my experience, but our first refurb was the best: bought the base model 24-inch iMac (Early 2008), Apple sent us a CTO model with 4 bonus upgrades:

        • RAM: 2 GB → 4 GB
        • HDD: 320 GB → 500 GB
        • CPU: 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo → 3.06GHz
        • GPU: Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256MB → GeForce 8800 GS 512MB

More surprising, it booted up fine a few months ago.

        • +1

That’s a nice upgrade! Never been that lucky. 😅

    • +1

      It looks brand new.

How is this a good deal for last year refurbished model? For $281 more I bought brand new 13 inch M5 Air and 10% Apple discount on top so effectively cost me $1356

    $1639 Apple Education pricing
    $119 Top Cashback
$163.9 Apple 10% gift card discount

So, effective price paid : $1356

    • +4

For a few bucks more you can buy the 15 inches
For a little extra you can get the MacBook Pro
And for a little bit more you can buy the M5 pro 14
Add a little extra and you can get the M5 pro 16
Why don’t you buy M5 max though? And maybe spec it up with more ram too

      • +4

I guess each to their own. For $200 more I will always prefer to buy brand new much better model than last year model, let alone refurbished

        • Same here, but other people have different max price points.
One of the wonders of capitalism is it can provide a good that meets an individual’s needs at many price points.

And this machine is still pretty quick anyways.

    • I bought the M4 new for the missus' birthday last minute last year. I paid under 1400, don't remember specifically what figure, it was close to 14 though, and it was from Officeworks, so it wasn't even a shonky "take a punt" style site, like I went in and picked it up immediately. This is a very mediocre deal tbh

  • +2

I got an M4 24/512 for $1650ish refurbed a couple of weeks ago and it's sick (still devo that I missed the M3 24/512 at CostCo for $1100 though).

Given how low those prices are, I recommend avoiding 256GB SSDs unless you basically just use your laptop as a netbook. (In that case, more power to you.)

    • +1

Fully sick or just regular sick?

    • +2

avoiding 256GB SSDs unless you basically just use your laptop as a netbook.

512 is the "sweet spot" now (bloat!) , but its not thta hard to manage with 256GB
I'm running multiple dev stacks in that. Its easy to fill the SSD, but you just need to avoid a few disk hogs.
Step one is to not use TimeMachine locally, and rely on NAS, cloud, or external drive for backups. Which is a good idea anyway.

Nobody should be relying on on-board storage alone, for obvious reasons.

  • Can someone help : I have M1 pro chip 14 inch MacBook pro, is it worth upgrading to this ?

    • +2

Well that depends - are you facing any performance issues with the M1 with your current usage?

      • I don't play games, most time browsing, emails , words etc. no issue with the current one - never heard a fan sound..
so not sure if it is worth upgrading, paid the current with almost 3k that time.

        • +4

Sounds like you don’t need it then

        • What made you buy a MacBook Pro instead of MacBook Air since your use cases are all pretty light?

          • @Nillionaire: More money than sense, bought into the marketing, or money is not an issue for them.

          • @Nillionaire: Thinking to sell it, then buy this one. Initially bought for photo editing, video editing, but never got used.

The missus was still rocking the M1 MBP until I got this one last year. She noticed it immediately how much faster shit was in general. Though, she uses her's for a buttload of Photoshopping more than anything else, and the way she uses the computers, it was getting pushed, that poor fan was loud. Almost a year on from getting the M4 Air, it's still very much going strong. Not sure how well the MBP would be trucking along lol.

That being said, it's also a lot lighter which is nice. That's about really the only thing I personally noticed. That and the little touch bar thing being gone. She actually used it, if you can believe it, but hasn't mentioned once missing it, so.

I'd say based on what you've said though, you should be right to keep trucking along just fine for a good while yet. Probably get away with a Neo if you just want a nice new toy.
