Vietnam HCM Fast Track

Heading to Ho Chi Minh City next week and trying to decide whether the airport fast track service is worth it. Approx $50 total for my partner and I.

I’m flying from Sydney and landing around 4–5pm local time at HCM. From what I’ve read, immigration queues can be hit or miss.

Has anyone used fast track and did it actually save much time or not really worth it?

I'd be keen if it saves 1-2hrs as there's a few things we want to do on that first night.

Thanks!

We arrived in Saigon at 4PM about a week ago. Arrived the same time as a few other flights - it took us nearly 1.5 hours to get through the queue. There is no Wi-Fi and minimal aircon - it was really stuffy.

After you have spent nearly 9 hours on a flight, you just want to get on a Grab and to your hotel.

Doing it again, I would pay for the IMMI fast track service (+ luggage), an eSIM (must be Viettel) and even the airport transfer.

Yes, online forums says that you can get everything cheaper when you land, but why go through all that hassle when you can just get to eating/exploring.

Another tip, if you are planning to withdraw money from ATMs, go to a TP Bank. The fee is 55k VND ($3 AUD), but you can get 10M Dongs out at a time. Most of the VPBank ATMs (fee free) had no cash in them.

You can book through Klook/Pelago and stack with cashback. Definitely worth it.

Is this just formalising the bribery?

    • State Sanctioned !

Reddot discussion that they deliberately processed the normal lines slower than usual to encourage people get fast-track in future.

  • All depends on what other flights arrive when you do. 15:45 on a thursday in feb i was through in 15mins without fast track.
Heart of darkness brewery is a ripper if you drink grog.

  • Thanks for this. We're heading to HCM later this year, I didn't even consider this.

I just booked. Frankly, the $50 is worth it, even if the queues aren't crazy.

  • “I'd be keen if it saves 1-2hrs as there's a few things we want to do on that first night.”
If so, use its fast track service.

  • Totally depends on the number of planes that landed same time as yours - seems the hour of your arrival is starting the peak period.

It’s just another $25-30 added to your ticket, so up to you to decide to save or or not.

Given the number of discussions on reddit about how terrible the airport wait time getting worse each year, I would get one without asking.

  • Decided to get it - thanks everyone for sharing their thoughts! Will update this post later on with how it goes!

    • How did you go?

Thanks for reminding me to respond! The service saved me a whopping 5 minutes haha. Alas, better safe then sorry. I think its safe to say the fast track halves the wait time, but whether it's worth it depends on how busy your arrival time is. 5pm on a friday arvo wasnt busy

      • I think he took a plane.

  • There's wifi at airport, but you might need to keep connecting again after a few mins
    Fast track is worth it

  • 100% worth it, I did it the last time and was fantastic. Some even bundle with transport which I did for just a seamless transfer.

  • I'd be keen if it saves 1-2hrs as there's a few things we want to do on that first night.

    TMI

  • Convenience and price, definitely worth it. Moral purposes (supporting corruption), definitely not.

AFAIK the high speed train hasn't even begun construction yet.

    • Pssst. That isn't what this thread is about.
