From what I gather $2.4k would have been severely overpriced to begin with. Not saying it's not a good T.V.

    • -2

yup. nobody would touch this at 2.4k which is why they had to lower the price. But they wanted to do it in style like all BS sales people do so they said it is on special. I dare them to keep the price at 2.4k. Sony & Costco both will have constipation by June 30.

    a led TV without FALD

    • I can’t find info on this FLAD..? What is it?

      • +8

I think he means Vlad. Short for Vlad the impaler

        Tv only no vlad

In consumer electronics, FALD refers to Full-Array Local Dimming, a premium backlight technology used in LCD monitors and TVs to enhance image contrast and HDR performance.

Mechanism: Unlike edge-lit displays, FALD utilizes a full grid of LEDs distributed across the entire back of the panel, divided into independent dimming zones that can adjust brightness separately based on the image content.
Benefits: This technology produces deeper blacks and higher contrast ratios (up to 10,000,000:1 in some displays) compared to standard LCDs, though it may exhibit a "blooming" or "halo effect" around bright objects on dark backgrounds.
Comparison: While FALD offers superior brightness and durability without the risk of burn-in found in OLED displays, it generally cannot achieve the perfect black levels of self-emissive OLED technology.

    • Correct, Direct-Lit to be precise.

This or TCL C7K/C8K? Haven't seen a good deal on the TCLs in a while and have the desire for a new TV

    • +4

This is a 2024 TV, the C6 would even be better. Cant believe people are voting it up, let alone considering buying it! Enjoy the blooming if you do!

      • +8

There won't be any blooming as this is edge lit. It will just be horrible full screen dark grays instead of blacks.

        • It’s actually Direct-Lit.

      • +2

Thanks just did my own research and you're right. This is a two year old model that is smoked by the TCLs that have gone for a similar price late last year.

        Just need another sale soon!

        • The fact that their is stock still tells the story!

    • -2

I pulled the trigger yesterday with an $1,150 price match at The Good Guys. Haven't got round to posting yet!

    • -2

This is Direct-Lit with no Local Dimming. Avoid like plague. Doesn’t hold a candle to TCLs Mini LED.

      • +1

Ah yes, Sony fanboys that know nothing about TVs getting butt-hurt by my comment 😂

Ideas to transport home? Saw a guy had it lay flat in the tub of an ute, with the box hanging over the tailgate, wondering if he got a surprise unboxing.

    • Recently bought a a 50 inch for my parents as a gift and the staff at JB as well as markings on the TCL box says you are supposed to ship them up upright. Not sure if it is actually necessary though YMMV.

      • +2

Laying big tvs down flat puts massive pressure on the middle of the glass and they can apparently break.

They are designed to only ever by upright.

      Price includes delivery!

      • Online price includes delivery, but the deal starts from tomorrow is in-store only, is it not?

        • Indeed, online price now updated and includes delivery.

  • damn, our tv died two days ago and I've been meaning to find something in this price range at 75" to replace it. Only problem is I'm in Tassie and don't have a Costco nearby.

Any alternatives worth looking at for a similar price? Was thinking TCL…

Damn, the 65" TCL C6K is cheap!

  • Still X90L is the goat of budget TV

  • +1

People saying this is better than Mini LED TCL are delusional. The TCL might need some more tweaking out of the box and have a shittier UI, but its display tech absolutely smokes this.

    • But isn't Sony re-badged TCL now? Or maybe not yet until they close the TV factory in Malaysia.

      • Soon, not yet

    • +1

Exactly what I said and I get negged for it. Imagine buying a Direct-Lit panel without Local Dimming in 2026.

    • Which one and how much tweaking?
