I created this a while back. People kept asking how and the same questions

      • +3

        True OzBargainer, thank you!

      • +1

Good stuff. Deal posts should link this

      • +1

Love it. These wikis are getting so good on ozb. Better than whirlpool.

      • Why are people blindly agreeing that this is good? The post is outdated, you cannot claim the same ETF as the post was first created in 2025 vs 2026.

        • +2

Final cost written in this deal post uses the current ETF. The method is the same.

          • -2

@shxhshzhz: I'm referring to BargainsGrabber ozbargain post that has not been updated. If you cancel, you have to pay the BONUS voucher + the BASE voucher. People in 2025 were cancelling early to get a discount due to the difference in the total voucher and the early termination fee. You cannot do that according to the current terms and conditions.

            • @Rupes: If you received a JB Hi-Fi Base Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you
cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the
outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Base Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile
Service (the Base Voucher Repayment Fee).

From July 24, 2025, if you also received a JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher when you purchased your
Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you
must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher you received for the
cancelled Mobile Service (the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee)

The Base Voucher Repayment Fee and the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee (as applicable) is a
pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the Base Voucher and Bonus Voucher divided
by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your Voucher Term. For
example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
              (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
              (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
              (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

              @Rupes:

you cannot claim the same ETF as the post was first created in 2025

The wiki post wasn’t first created in 2025. It was first created in 2024, and then later I updated it in late 2025 with the latest ETC costs.

It has been reflected correctly when Telstra and JB increased their ETC to up to $1000 last year. Nothing has changed since

              Up to $1,000

Unless I’ve missed something, which part of the wiki is still incorrect?

People in 2025 were cancelling early to get a discount due to the difference in the total voucher and the early termination fee.

I think you were referring to 2024. That was still possible before the price hike in late 2025

              • -2

@BargainsGrabber: There are new Terms and Conditions that are in effective of July 2025.

The early termination fees are not what you're describing… you're claiming a fixed 'ETC' of up to $1000 on any upfront plan. But if you'd actually gone ahead and jumped on to the JB Hi-Fi website to see the "Terms and conditions" and "Critical Information Summary", you'd see they BOTH link to domains by Telstra clearly stating the new early termination fee structures…

The information you've stated is either Out of Date, or False.

                https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans
                https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/consume…

                • +2

@Rupes: Thanks but my information on that wiki is correct, and I’ve linked it to the correct CIS. I noticed you had commented on that wiki too, and if you looked at the date on when I commented, it was on 29 July 2025, that was when I had updated the table reflecting the new ETC throughout

It has always been up to the fixed $1000. I’ve been reading on some of the recent JB and Telstra deals and it’s still the $1000 pro rata, despite if the offer available is more (ie the Pixel 10 Pro deal)

Please spend some time reading on past deals before spreading incorrect news. I stand on my wiki with the correct information currently

                  • @BargainsGrabber: No mate. Current CIS clearly states a $1,100 maximum ETC. Check the JB website.

                    • @dongltron: Yes but previous report did state this as well, but they were only charged max $1000

I haven’t read the latest comments yet

                      • @BargainsGrabber: Shouldn’t matter. They got lucky, clearly. One should still assume that they will be charged the maximum rate as per the CIS.

      • Better off buying it outright using 10% of GC from WW.

    • +3

Using maximum $1100 JB $99 Plan Early Termination Fee to calculate. I added a $5 SIM card, but if you already have a cheap pre-paid SIM handy, remove the $5 would match OP's figure of $1153. Must cancel within the first month.

      iPhone Model iPhone Air
      Storage size 256GB
      Phone price 1299
      JB voucher -1299
      Pro rata termination fee 1054.17
      First month 99
      $5 Aldi sim 5
      Total cost 1158.17

If you already have an existing Telstra Postpaid plan, then your total (by doing early termination right away on this new one to avoid paying the first $99/month is $1100 (+$5 if you need an Aldi prepaid SIM). Too lazy to do another table for that. You basically pay the full early termination fee in that case.

      • -3

The pro-rata termination fee is not $1054.17 it is $1,244.8. The total voucher is the base + bonus, in this exceptional case, the total voucher is $1299 anyway .

First month you pay $99, then you terminate, then you have to pay 23/24 of the voucher term which is (23/24 * Total Voucher ($1299)) = $1244.88

        • Okay, then using what you mentioned:

          iPhone Mobile iPhone Air
          Storage size 256GB
          Phone price 1299
          JB voucher -1299
          Pro rata termination fee 1244.88
          First month 99
          $5 Aldi sim 5
          Total cost 1348.88

$1349 or $1344 (if you already have a spare prepaid SIM). If you call Telstra to cancel the plan, would Telstra know about the voucher?

        • +1

Thats not correct. ETC on these $99 contracts is $1,000. Thats mentioned in the Telstra contract when you sign up. Signed up and cancelled this deal last month for S26U and ETC invoice received was pro rata based on $1,000 ETC

          • +1

@OZBsince2018: How much was the bonus voucher? Also, I thought the max early termination (according to JB mobile T&C) is now $1100, not $1000 anymore.

            JB Mobile critical Information summary

However, under What happens when I cancel my plan early?

You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher and Bonus Voucher if offered during the promotional period divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

I don't rule out you got lucky and the Telstra rep or the JB Mobile rep didn't know the rule change.

            • @netsurfer: Voucher was in fact 1599 if I remember correctly.
And I signed up 3 plans and then cancelled all. Terms and conditions were the same that you mentioned above, but the ETC was 1,000 pro rata for 23 months.

              • +2

@OZBsince2018: Well, Full ETC is $1100 now. I haven't been following JB Mobile plans, maybe it was $1000 4 weeks ago. I did the calculation based on $1100 ETC, you can read the page yourself, it states $1100.

The page does give Telstra and JB Mobile the ability to enforce ETC based on voucher value. One sort of loophole is the "if applicable" bit. I don't know if JB changed how the receipt is generated OR it now sends extra info to Tel$tra. When my friend did his (the ETC was $800 back then), his invoice showed a JB voucher so what if someone actually purchased a $1200 JB voucher out of pocket to buy a phone?

Anyway, best to ask JB staff / store. It doesn't hurt to make people aware of the new terms and conditions. If they are being charged pro rata ETC based on the voucher, are you going to refund the difference? Even if they were charged based on based on $1100 ETC, you are going to refund the difference based on $1000 ETC? I think it isn't a good idea to keep telling people about $1000 ETC.

                • +1

@netsurfer: Just for information, JB Hifi staff members always tell that we have to pay the full voucher amount back in case we cancel the plan (pro rata of course)🥹
They told the same even when the ETC was $800.
But if the ETC is now $1100 as you said, then there is no point signing up for this deal as buying outright using 10% of GC is better option.

                  • @OZBsince2018: That's not the case, my local JB store staff told me the ETC was $800 last year. I didn't even ask, he just told me.

          • -1

            @OZBsince2018: I recommend reading

            https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

You’ll need to repay Telstra for any vouchers you received when you purchased your plan. The Voucher Repayment Fee (if applicable) is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher and Bonus Voucher if offered during the promotional period divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

            • @Rupes: Terms and conditions were the same that you mentioned above, but the ETC was 1,000 pro rata for 23 months. Voucher for S26U deal was in fact 1599 if I remember correctly and I signed up 3 plans and cancelled and received ETC for pro rata of $1,000.

              • @OZBsince2018: So if people now get charged based on $1100 ETC or $1299 ETC, you will pay them the difference?
Post your JB receipt (mask out your details) and Telstra charge you ~$958.33 for the termination fee? You should check your card statement, rather than rely on memory. Also, it's brave to tell people to ignore the official page.

                • @netsurfer: I am not forcing anyone to sign up. I am just letting everyone know what ETC I paid for the 3 plans I signed up and then cancelled. I have the receipts from Telstra that were received via email. And the amount charged was $958.18. below is the copy paste of the text from the invoice:

                  Mobile Voucher Commitment
Early Termination charge for remaining 23 months
                  $958.18
                  Total $958.18
                  Incl. $0.00 GST
Includes GST-free items Due Date 20 Mar 2026

                  • +1

@OZBsince2018: Problem is, JB Mobile and Telstra are making changes. It was $800 early last year, then changed to $1000. We don't know when they are going to enforce $1100 ETC and voucher amount based pro rata early termination. Yes, Telstra is slow on things, but that doesn't mean it will keep this loophole opened forever.

Wait for people who attempted this deal to confirm, rather than insisting because it was $1000 ETC last month (and the same T&C page), it is 100% the case this month because JB Hi Fi Web site got it wrong. Without actually hearing from people who got this, we can't assume the best case scenario. I hope it is based on $1000 ETC and Telstra still hasn't updated its system.

  • Are all phones sold at JB eligible for combined (phone+service) plans such as this? Or only phones they choose to bundle up?

    • +1

I think IPhone 17 ( except e) have $1300 off at the moment, which makes the Air which is on offer free. You can either go for that or get a $800 store voucher to use on anything. The store voucher regularly rises to $1100 so I would wait if that’s what you would like to do.

      • Would you know how it works if you get a more expensive phone? Do you pay the shortfall up front or is it financed and added to the plan?

  • I picked this deal up on Friday, there is also a deal on Air accessories at the minute so I got them to throw in the cheapest Cygnett mag compatible cover (rrp 29.99) and screen protector (rrp $19) for free.
There seemed to be lots of Blues in stock and only one black which I grabbed so you may not get your first choice of colour so be prepared.

  • How much it will cost if cancelled after first month?

    • +1

      $1153

    • If you cancel, you will pay
      $99 for the first month

Then the Early Termination Fee stipulates that you must repay 23/24 of the Voucher received. In this case you received a voucher of $1299, which means the ETF is (1299 * (23/24)) $1244.88.

      • Thats not correct. ETC will be $1,000 per the Telstra contract that you eill receive when you sign up. Read comments in recent S26U deal.

        • The current CIS says $800 base voucher, plus $300 during promotional periods. The JB website says they currently have the promotion indicating that the ETC will be $1100 ($800 + $300). That S26U deal was 2 months ago. Unless you have signed up to this plan, and know for certain the ETC telling people what it will be based on a previous deal is not good, as it may mislead them to making this purchase on your assumption, when the CIS says they can charge $1100

Alternatively buy at OW, pay with 10% discounted GCs and get 2.5% back in Flybuys using OnePass

    • how much?

        • +1

          Thanks, that is better

    • +2

Where can we find 10% off on OW GC?

    • Where are 10% off gift cards?

    • Yes, thats a better way to buy rather than going through the hassle of signing up the plan and cancellation

  • Is it also port in/new customer only?

    • +1

Yes, also excludes the usual Telstra resellers (Boost, Aldi)

      • Ah ok, cheers

        • Correction on my post: doesn’t mention Aldi being excluded in the deal, dude in store said that to me today though.

          • @freefall101: I think you can port in from Aldi - unless they changed the policy

  • +2

Vodafone had this for $1200 on a plan not long ago. It’s been around $1350 for ATL sale I believe with officeworks PB. I’m sure it’ll hit the $1100 or $1200 mark soon on a sale at jbhifi or somewhere soon. Maybe better off waiting for that rather than dealing with the hassle of going through a gift card plan but that’s just me.

Still a good find though OP

    • -3

Vodafone does not sell phones outright. An expensive plan is required with the phone for a minimum of 12 months

      • The idea is that the phone was discounted that heavily quite early. It’s an indication of other retailers doing the same soon

Edit: also calling $39 a month an expensive plan is kinda wild considering what most people pay. At the time of the Vodafone sale the plans were $39 for the whole contract term

        • +1

If $39 per month for 60GB for a minimum of 12 months is a deal to you, you haven't been on OzBargain for long enough 😂

Vodafone phone "deals" which need a plan to be paired with them have never been popular on OzBargain as they are not viewed as real deals

          • @shxhshzhz: Negging my comments is not going to change the facts 😂

    • -2

Compared to Vodafone, you save $1210 vs their cheapest 60gb plan & after 2y you continue on almost 1/2 price vs $99 plan.
As WiFi is available most of the time, the provider & extra GB are irrelevant for the majority.
The worst ever iPhone vaue/$ compared to SmartPhones, is Rip-off by Apple & Telstra. Voda Galaxy A57 is only $10/month (A57x only $1/m). I pay $5.6*24 (from orig $29.1) for A55. Also -$9.9 until 4'28 loyalty credit on $63 plan with 200GB + international calls

  • +5

Jump through hoops for $150 savings on an overpriced phone is a choice.

Samsung is canceling the better Edge version because SmartPhone users are smarter than iPhone users. They reject paying the cost of fake slim - Air is 9.6mm with camera bump & all else is inferior vs Galaxy S26+ ;)
Air is sacrificing telephoto lens, large battery& thermal cooling just to shave off few mm that disappear moment you put on protective case + 5mm lens STATIC ISLAND.
On Earth, physics are simple: Thin Titanium Trap: it sounds premium but Air’s internal frame is still mostly aluminum for heat mgmt. Paying for metal you'll never touch.
S26+ 4,900 mAh batt vs Air 3,150 mAh. Camera Reality: S26+ 50MP 3x optical zoom.
S26+ offers desktop mode DeX, faster 45W charging& 3-camera array that earns flagship title.
S26 Ultra is the ultimate AI & productivity master.

      • -1

Give it a break man. People don't want to use android.

      • Samsung and iPhones are both smartphones FYI.

There's nothing special about either, everyone has their own reasons for choosing what best suits them.

      • I have S26 base and the camera bump is annoying af when using it on a desk

  • +1

The iPhone Fold comes out this year, though it probably won't be this cheap.

    • Buy 2 iphone air and a tape.

      • You get 2x inferior batt/camera & all the fake iMarketing for iFools ;)

    • It will be twice as expensive.

  • iPhone Air has NO physical sim card tray - if you don't know much about eSIMs better do some research now. It can be a hassle porting from one network to another as well as porting from one handset to another. I've had my iPhone Air since late last year and its been great, the first week was painful with ALDI takes more than 24 hours to activate) but Belong was seamless.

  • How is this deal a saving of $1299?

    • Because you’re getting the phone for free?

  • -2

this is not a deal unless you need that data.

you can buy it outright from jb for $1299 minus 10% discount = $1169 (there are frequently giftcards on discount at the supermarkets)

you can get a year sim from boost ($250) or woolworths mobil (around 250) plus you can get 10% off per month on 1 shop

    so $500 + 1169 for a phone with 24 month connection = $1669 or 69 a month.
    If you do even 1 $250 shop a month that saves you $25 x 24 = $600
if you max it out at 1 x $500 shop a month thats $1200 over the 2 years.
that means you only pay $19.54 a month for a phone with calls and data for 24 months.

    • Vodafone can save you $1210 on their cheapest 60gb plan & after 2y you continue on almost 1/2 price vs $99 plan.
With WiFi available most of the time, the provider & extra GB are mostly irrelevant.

      • +1

Your last paragraph is probably the worst I've read all year. If it suits you, though, more power to you.

    • +4

This is a cancellation deal. Search and read about it on OzBargain before commenting about something you don't understand. OzBargainers don't keep the plan for 24 months.

  • How are the comments an entire maths equation? 😂

Guys, It isn’t rocket science. Per the CIS, the maximum voucher repayment fee is $1100: https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

You must pay the first month in store and the voucher repayment fee is pro rata.

    $1054 + $99 = $1,153.00 for an iPhone Air 256GB.

But how did you get $1054? $1100/24x23.

Note: You will take a hit on your credit score if that means anything to you so it isn’t completely without consequence.

    • how did you calculate it at $1054?

  • Can I pay the $1000 ETC using discounted JB gift cards, or is this paid directly to Telstra?

    • No, the ETC is paid directly to Telstra and it’s $1153.

  • There is so much to this post.

Can someone accurately sum up what the exact cost is for someone to sign up and cancel this plan

    I’ve seen everything from $1000-$1300

    • ETC should be $1,153, from my understanding. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

At that point, though, just buy it from TGG with 11% gift card cashback via ShopBack. Saves you a credit check and the pita it would be to cancel.
