  • Is this one better than the Sony?

      • Im not sure what you are saying here - is it just you dont know?

Sony and TCL have announced a strategic joint venture, titled BRAVIA Inc., scheduled to begin operations in April 2027 to manage Sony's TV and home audio businesses. TCL will hold a 51% controlling stake, with Sony retaining 49%. The move aims to combine Sony's premium brand and processing technology with TCL's manufacturing scale.

Yes, the Bravia 3 is Direct-Lit with no local dimming, or in other words, garbage.

A positive review of Sony Bravia 3 here in the Sony post.

I’ve worked in consumer electronics for the majority of my working career and let me tell you, they’re either blind or full of shit. There is zero possibility that a Direct-Lit panel without Local Dimming will ever look better than a Mini LED. Trust me.

            • @maxwin: Please do

                • @maxwin: The man actually delivered! Also what is with that arrangement?

                • @maxwin: Thanks - Dont personally rate the Sony picture but if you are happy thats all that matters.

I can share a personal anecdote.

I have owned Sony sets as well as others. My oldest working TV is a Sony W800b from 2014. Sometime in 2016, so quite a bit out of warranty, it stopped working. Asked for service options and was told it was out of warranty but to take it to an authorised centre and have them sort out what options might be available. Thankfully, it was just a power brick that was dead. Service centre pulled another brick from possibly a dead unit and gave it to me. Told me he'd sort it out with Sony. Never heard from them again, but the TV is still A-Ok.

Bought an Hisense P7 in December of 2018. Phenomenal picture. Performed well, not the fastest smart TV, but again, I was really really happy with the image quality and brightness. Unfortunately started spazzing out in late 2022 - Picture still great, but it would randomly turn off spontaneously. Sometimes after an hour, sometimes after only 5 minutes. This was also a spare TV, so it's panel life was ridiculously low. Hisense has a 3 year, in house warranty, but it was already out. Was told it was definitely out of warranty, and that they could offer me no other options. I took it to a service centre on my own dime and had them check it out. I got told that it was probably a mainboard issue after they tested a few things. Unfortunately they could no longer source that particular model of mainboard. They mentioned my only options were to source from pre-owned sources and that they can't guarantee repairs if it's not a brand new part. I ended up selling that unit AS IS - for parts.

Because of these experiences, the SO is convinced that if we ever have to buy another set, it'll have to be one of the better reputation ones ie, Sony. The Hisense purchase was made with the knowledge it was a really good deal for excellent image quality for not a lot of cash but she feels like it's burned us in the long run. I'm not as convinced as her, however our personal experience certainly leans into that.

        +1.

I have a Hisense 65Q8 from 2021 and bought it because it was the best value for image quality. Still now, the image quality is awesome but they really cheaped out on the hardware. It's laggy as hell and randomly will pause while I'm scrolling through the YouTube app.

Dunno if they've upped their game with recent models but it's put me off buying a Hisense again.

    • Nope

Didn't Hisense recently update all their TV's to have unskippable ads even doing basic stuff like switching to HDMI?

The most useless native OS known to humanity.

I still am annoyed til this day for getting Hisense. Was sold it by a close friend that works at Harvey Norman, now I don’t trust his opinion any longer for anything.

@siemic: You should've known he was dodgy since he works for Gerry

          • @siemic: I haven't purchased one in quite a while but they were pretty good at that point. Value for money. No idea about this Ad thing

    • According to google, if you email Hisense support with your TVs unique id, and ask them to remove the ads, they'll do it for you.

    Get a TCL C7

  • Is this like MG and Chinese cars?

  • what's the game mode like on this for ps5?

    been considering the TCL c7k.

    primary use is ps5

  • Purchased one a few years back from this deal and the Hisense tv is still going strong.

  • Which Tv is better for standard PS5 gaming? I enjoyed the Hisense P7 when it came out using the PS4 Pro then switched to the Bravia X90 in recent times. Both have been quality TVs

  • ant tcl mini led 55 or 65 deals?
