Wireless Mechanical Keyboard Recommendations - Bought The Evoworks Evo75 but It's Too High

I’m upgrading from an old corded mechanical keyboard and bought the Evoworks Evo75 from Amazon, which arrived today.

There’s a lot I like about it, especially the sound, the colour (I got the sage), and the overall feel and weight. My only issue is that I didn’t realise how tall it is, and I can already tell it’s going to cause fatigue over time.

Could anyone recommend some alternatives to try?

What I’m looking for:

Wireless
Solid build and some weight, but not as heavy as the Evo75
Lower profile or at least not as tall
Available in lighter colours
Backlit
Budget up to $300

I’m using it in place of my laptop keyboard because I’m much more productive on a mechanical keyboard.

    Why not add a wrist rest? A lot of the heavy aluminium keyboards are high, and should be paired with a rest. Fixes all your issues.

    if it is too high sounds like all those mechanical keyboards will be too high for you.

    you need to try low profile. which is in between chiclet (like popular MX keys mini, Apple Magic) and MX keyboard. something like Lofree Flow 2 84.

    if that is too high for you, I recommend Logitech Keys to Go 2. I have been using it for about the last 12 months so low and very light to type on.

      Aww thanks didn't realise this.

      I was using the Havit HV-KB395L and just it Googling then, it is a is very low profile for a mechanical, so I was going off that.

        I had a look. seems to be typical budget plastic gaming keyboard.

        fyi when I was part of r/MK community I learned a lot. and the weight and solid noise when you tapped a aluminum keyboard was a requirement of "feeling quality" for many users there.

        so if it's your first aluminum keyboard they are typically higher at the front because the whole keyboard is much thicker. the aluminum needs to be a certain thickness, otherwise when you flick it with your finger and it makes a hollow noise, the opinion was that was a feeling of cheapness. so to meet customer requirements these metal keyboards are made with pretty thick aluminum.

        some of the more expensive keyboards even put a brass weight into a cutout on the back of the keyboard, to add even more weight and reduce all hollow noise.

    i use a NK65 for both work and home (one plastic and one aluminum) its old but its great

    I've got have a bunch of keyboards that are wireless CNC, and my fav out of all is rainy75, incredible sound and everything is right out of the box. I find most keyboards I've owned all developed stabiliser rattle after a while so stock up on stabilisers and be prepared to install some new ones, and rainy75 was the only keyboard I've got thats still on the original stabilisers and zero rattles. Second fav is probs Leoborg HI8 with HMX blue topaz switch, absolutely incredible sound, but no VIA and software is terrible. Would recommend getting a numpad with a volume knob if you use mostly 75% keyboards. Oh and crush80 is really good too if you are willing to try out a bunch of switches and see what you like cus I didn't like the stock switches.

        that's always the first thing I would try. The rattle at least for me happens over time from warped key cap or warped wire or the plastic housing, and almost always the metal wire. Lubing doesn't solve it when the alignment is out of wack. Also all of the keyboards I've got are prelubed.

      can you comment on the battery life of the rainy75 if not using RGB? I'm looking at the 7000 mAh model which they claim has up to 900 hours of battery life, but I've looked online and people are saying that it only lasts around a day if using RGB, i'm not sure if that means their "up to" is extremely optimistic or if RGB actually makes that much of a difference.

        I use my rainy75 on max brightness on my work laptop via bt and charge using my desktop. I do get the low battery after 5 or 7 days without a charge maybe 2-3 hours of use per day so that seems about right based on what people say.

    I've had a good time with Perixx mech keyboards; I needed an ergonomic one and found them to be a reasonable balance of quality and value.     Ajazz K870T with swappable key switches is good. I really like the volume scroll wheel located above the cursor inverted T. I have both black and white version of this keyboard and the white one looks much better if you like the RGB to be obvious. The black model is more subdued as the light isn't reflected so well.

    Royal Kludge RK87 tri-mode hotswap (not the Sink87G variant) is also a very good budget keyboard and it comes with two shrouds to convert between floating keys, low profile and standard. Some pics here…

    I highly recommend paying the extra few dollars to get a keyboard with hot-swap key sockets. While most factory installed keys are good, there are aftermarket alternatives that are even better.
