Why would you give something like this rather than cash?

    • +3

Credit card points. These won't be tampered by scammers unlike the ones on supermarket shelves.

Having to pay a service fee for a gift card in the first place is bonkers

    • It's no different to paying a service fee for those EFTPOS/Visa/Mastercard pre-paid gift cards from supermarkets …

participating stores in Australia with eftpos facilities

Is there a list of participating stores?

    • +4

      Nope.

The mention of participating retailers is lifted straight from dot point 1 of the Westfield gift card terms and conditions. However, in my experience, this gift card can be redeemed at nearly every merchant that accepts magstripe (i.e. swipe) payments processed over the eftpos network, subject to individual merchant acceptance. I have been able to use them at many retailers outside of Westfield shopping centres, including small random restaurants and cafés. Retailers do not have to "opt in" to accepting Westfield eftpos gift cards, but they could go to the effort in blocking Westfield eftpos gift cards (which is what Officeworks has done for many years).

The FAQ linked at the bottom of the deal description goes into detail with examples of merchants that do not accept Westfield eftpos gift cards.

Btw, I am not sure of the reason you were down-voted, because that is a legitimate question. Discussions periodically pop up here on where Westfield gift cards are accepted (e.g. this one from 2018).

These reloadable? If not what are the best mastercard or visa reloadables currently?

    • No, these are not reloadable

  • Is this correct? —- "meeting minimum spend requirements for new credit cards"

I'm new to credit cards and just wanted to confirm it won't be a considered a cash advance or cash equivalent transaction.
