PROMOTION OVERVIEW

  • Samsung Wallet users in Australia are eligible to receive a 10.00% discount on Uber gift card purchases using the given promo code.

DISCOUNT DETAILS

  • The maximum discount per purchase is AUD $50.

  • The promo code is limited to 5 uses per user over the Promotion Period.

  • The 10.00% discount is eligible for a maximum of 5 purchases per user over the Promotion Period.

  • The maximum basket value eligible for discount is AUD $500 per transaction.

PROMOTION PERIOD

  • Monday 14 April, 00:00 AM AEDT – Thursday 30 April, 11:59 PM AEDT

  • Uber gift cards can also be redeemed at Uber Eats.
  • You can switch payment method in the Uber app or Uber Eats app within 30 days. You can buy this discounted Uber gift card to pay past purchases that you paid with bank card.

There is no difference between a regular Uber gift card and an Uber Eats gift card – both can be used for either purpose.

App only: Switch payment hack

A unique feature of Uber’s payment system is that it allows you to change the payment method on purchases you made up to 30 days ago. This means you can buy Uber gift cards when they’re on sale and use them retroactively.

After you’ve added your Uber gift cards to your account, open up the Uber app or Uber Eats app and go to the ride or order you previously made. Select the receipt for that ride or order and then scroll down to where it says Switch Payment Method.

Provided you have enough in your gift card balance to cover the total purchase, you should then be given the option to switch the payment method to use Uber Cash. Your original payment method (e.g. credit card, PayPal etc) will then be refunded.

Note that there have been reports that switching the payment is not possible for rides and orders paid for with Apple Pay or Google Pay.

      Officially speaking, no. Section 3 of the Uber One terms and conditions says you cannot use Uber gift cards to pay for an Uber One subscription.

      However, Uber charged the $9.99 monthly subscription fee to my Uber account's gift card balance last month after I forgot to cancel my Uber One free trial. I only had an expired credit card as a linked payment method (as well as a PayPal account where I removed the payment authorisation via PayPal's app). I am a bit surprised Uber did not immediately cancel my subscription.

                  @Naed: After I click Pay, next screen shows "Webview loading page", then it just goes to the Samsung Wallet NFC screen for payment like I'm in a shop.

    anyone happen to know if the switch payment method trick will still work if I had a small gift card balance that I already applied on the Uber trip? it was less than 30 days ago. total was like $37, but I applied leftover credit of about $1.5 and the rest was a debit card.

        Sorry for the delay. It used to be that if you partially paid with a gift card you had to switch to a completely different payment method (e.g. a debit card) before you could switch it back to use a gift card entirely.

        However, I believe now it just prompts you to fill out a form and Uber support manually switch it for you. I decided to test it today but I'm still waiting to see what happens with my request as it's not an instantaneous thing like when you switch a purchase exclusively paid for with a credit/debit card or PayPal.

        Update: It works. It just takes about a day for someone at Uber to manually process your request.
