Renault Megane E-Tech Techno EV6 from $49,990 Drive-Away @ Renault

680

The Renault Megane E-Tech electric vehicle will be offered with discounts of up to $12,000 as part of an end-of-financial year deal.

Until 30 June, the Megane E-Tech Techno EV60 is priced from $49,990 drive-away, an estimated saving of about $8000 to $12,000 over the regular price of $54,990 plus on-road costs.

The Megane E-Tech is powered by a single electric motor on the front axle producing 160kW and 300Nm, and is claimed to deliver a zero to 100km/h time of 7.4 seconds.

The electric Megane uses a 60kWh lithium-ion battery for a WLTP all-electric driving range rating of 454km. A 130kW DC rapid charger is claimed to replenish the battery from 15 to 80 per cent full in approximately 30 minutes.

  • Another EV deal.

Waiting for the brutality to break out in the comments, lmao.

    • its not a Tesla so thats a + for me

  • Very underwhelming specs

    • Yeah exactly. Like car with slow charging, small battery and the Renault build quality for less than its competitors isn’t really a headline grabber. If I want cheap get a Jaeco ($36k DA, 10 yr warranty) or a Cherry, otherwise for $50k get a BYD or stretch and get an entry level tesla.

    • Also what the hell are they doing with the name? EV6 already exists as a Kia

Edit: OP its an EV60 not EV6

      • It's between EV6 (Kia) and EX60 (Volvo)

Really silly naming, will get confused with the more established EV models

    • The motor tech on this is actually industry leading. Of course, the spec sheet readers won't realise that.

      • how so? can you explain?

        • Rare-earth free (no magnet) electrically excited using a wound rotor. Very efficient and environmentally friendly.

          • @tp0: Interesting, i wonder if this is the direction it's heading into

            • @meong: BMW use the same type of motor.

  • Curious if it handles like a traditional Renault produced in the Douai plant or if it's an abomination like the Koleos.

    • Reviews I have watched reckon it is true to the Megane nameplate, handling better than a FWD hatch should

      • That's good to hear. It's likely the chassis is sound but after some thought, being an EV it likely has vague electric steering. All traditional French FWD hatches have better handling than they should. I have an affinity for Citroen's and have loved most Renault's I've pushed including the Scenic, great cars!

        • I had one of these when we tried to move back to live in the UK. I had it for 18 months and it was so much fun, handles like a go cart, and the 0-100kph is accurate if not reserved. Great car.

          • @bigmanboulder: we recently bought one as a daily between my wife and I. I'm a hot hatch guy and my other car at the moment is a Gen 2 GR Yaris but have had a few others including an RS Clio 182 many years ago. Megane was the first EV we drove that felt right. One thing to note is how light it is and feels compared to other EVs so it actually feels fun to throw around corners.

    • probably a lot less then Renault + ICE. lol

      • Airbag + ABS lights a thing still surely?

    • They're pretty much the only traditional automaker that is shaping up to be a real competitor to the Chinese. They've got the rapid development, factories and pricing down-pat already while the others are still stuffing around.

      • Yah you forgot to mention Renault's reliability, which is as strong as cease fire agreement in the Middle East 🤡

For a non-Chinese EV around this price range, I rather choose Skoda, Hyundai/Kia or even Toyota 😀

        • At least if this car raises a white flag you know it means it

        • You can't compare ICE to EV in regards to reliability, ICE has 10 times more moving parts

          • @Chizzle: Oh EV has less moving parts, so even Renault's should be reliable too? Maybe do a quick Google or Reddit to see a sea of reliability issues 😂
Now do similar search for big Chinese EV names and see the differences. Not saying Chinese are flawless, but enough to put Renault in shame 🤡

I wont buy Chinese but just put it out there. European never care about reliability, especially long term. Always like that, never change :)

      • Agree with this and nice to see anyone else recognises it. They're making much lighter EVs too than the chinese. As an example a sealion 7 is about 2300kg and a Renault scenic is 1900kg (and has a slightly bigger battery). The Renault will almost certainly drive better too but I haven't driven one.

  • Insert the the mandatory CCP bashing comment…oh wait that's not a Chinese car

  • Waiting for a good deal on Subaru EV (Solterra) or its twin from Toyota but Subaru looks better as it is AWD on both models.

    • Skip solterra, it was a flop. "Limited range, slow DC charging, higher prices, and early, notable issues like the recall over wheel hub bolts. While sharing the Toyota bZ4X platform provided excellent AWD, it struggled against rivals like the Tesla Model Y."

      • Wasn't that the old model and the new one is much improved?

      • The 2024-25 models were a flop.

The 2026 Solterra (and the equivalent 2026 bz4x) is significantly improved, with faster charging, much longer range and also decently cheaper.

    • The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is coming shortly.
On paper it looks good. Time will tell if Japan can catch up with the CCP, or just do colabs.

    • Go see a dealer - we were offered $5k off the 2WD and $8.5k off the AWD, both new 2026 models with all the upgrades.

      • On top of the drive away price?

        • I actually got it wrong - had another look at my lease documents and have the following price for the AWD I ordered:

          Vehicle On Road Cost: $63,711.50

So yeah, nearly $10K off the NSW D/A price on the Toyota website.

  • Nice looking car but specs are not good enough for that price

    • Yeah, that's not a good price for a small sedan that's only 4.2m long. The MG4 can be bought for $10k cheaper as a fair comparison. If you insist on paying $50k, you can upgrade to a medium sized SUV with the Geely EX5 which will destroy this car in terms of size & specs for the same price.

      • Not everyone wants the largest car or the best specs (not sure which specifically you mean). Eg in city or Eastern suburbs, a shorter crossover or SUV (like the Megane and even the slightly longer Scenic) can be a plus. That almost certainly means a smaller battery and range, but for some that's a worthy trade off.

        • All true but does not address the opener:

Yeah, that's not a good price for a small sedan

I am holding out for the small EV you're describing - but with a commensurate price.

        • Sure, everyone has different needs for car sizes but if you want to pay $10k more for the same size hatchback with the same range then you need to hand in your OzBargain license as you aren't interested in good value. This is why I said the MG4 was a comparable EV car.

          • @supersabroso:

if you want to pay $10k more for the same size hatchback with the same range

That's a weird thing to say, there are many more criteria to buying a car than the size and the range.

People buy BMWs every day when they could have bought a Kia of the same size and range instead.

People buy Land Rovers every day when they could have bought a Jeep of the same size and range instead.

            • @Nom: I'm in (and now a mod for) a fairly large Aussie EV group and it's fair to say there is a section of folks who are very passionate about prosecuting the case for cheaper Chinese EVs (interestingly, usually not BYD - perhaps because their market leadership means they're now seen as a "big guy" like Tesla).

Not saying it's the case with all those in this OzB thread, but I often see them - regardless of the OP's criteria and often completely ignoring it - plugging whatever cheaper Chinese EV is "similarly specced but way cheaper".

There are a couple of Tesla fanatics like that too, but far fewer. Debates tend to go nowhere in that situation as there tends to be a lot of repetition by the more zealous elements, best to reply once to give a different view for any normies reading and wondering, but leave it at that.

      • For the price you can get the much better Zeekr X now.

        https://www.drive.com.au/news/2026-zeekr-x-price-confirmed-e…

Under $50k driveaway for the 250kw RWD version.

  • Once Renault produce a good ICE vehicle, I’ll wait a few years and take a look at their EV’s

    • You're a few decades late, time to open your eyes.

      • Love driving my son's Clio Sports - the handling - holy crap so good!

    • Renault is the least French of the Big 3 in France. Their designs are actually quite sensible, as most of the parts and platform tecamology is shared with Nissan and Merc

      • Mitusbishi*

          • @Juice08: I was correcting the Mercedes part.
Yes, I have got Nissan parts for my Renault before :)

            • @tangcla: ah sorry. didn't read far enough to see the Merc bit :D

            • @tangcla: No need to correct me. Look up M282 engines and find out for yourself. In that alliance, the only ones sharing with Mitsubishi is Nissan, not so much Renault. Nissan is only sharing tech with Mitsubishi as they had rescued them from bankrupcy after some dodgy engineering in Japan that unfortunately got exposed.

Theres also diesel tech shared more widely between them but I dont really care about diesel engines much and especially not at current prices of the stuff

  • Considering the cost of fuel seems like a decent deal for those looking for a non-Chinese EV with a decent warranty

Honestly speaking Renault isnt a bad car i mean id take it all day over Volvo, Jeep or Land Rover - which are priced to a premium and are shit boxes

    • I've had a Renault Clio RS since 2013. Mechanically has been fine and is fun to zip around in. DSG is jerky at low speeds and the build quality is lacking with NVM being high. But this car was bought for the driving fun-factor and at sub-$40k it was a budget hot hatch. Now my kids are grown it's hard to fit 5 but we still can. Get's 7L/100km driving sensibly.

I love Renault and would upgrade to a Megane EV.

  • Renault Meh-Gah-Nee

    (Amazing Race Australia reference)

    • Humour is not allowed on this website so check yourself bro

      • That's not true, but whatever is being posted in the name of humour is expected to be actually funny.

        • It was funny imo if you actually watched the episode (aired about 10 years ago). Teams were racing in France and given Renault Megane hire cars. One of the bogan guys says "we've got ourselves a Renault Meh-Gah-Nee".

  • Megane? They chopped off the booty!
Look how they massacred my boy.

  • Would purchase one if they brought the 5 here. Until then they mind as well not even have EVs in my mind

    • Looks like the non-EV edit: no this looks like the full performance EV version will be coming

      https://www.renault.com.au/vehicles/renault-5-turbo-3-e/

      • If I could afford it, I would despite how excessive that would be as a daily driver

      • Holy moly. That looks amazing

        • Aesthetically?

Yikes it looks like it's missing a chromosome

      • Gymkhana vibes.

      • I just took a peak at your link… wow. Basically seal performance or M3P power … in a 1400kg car. You’ve made my automotive day.

        I’m a little surprised that it’s slower to a 100 than a M3P despite weighing 600kgs less?

But this would handle like a dream. I do miss lighter cars. 1500kgs for an e46 M3 was the upper limit. You had all the EVOs being 1250 ish. This is right there!

        • @BusMan247 - this guy just bought one https://youtu.be/Jt8tybKrdUs

          • @Nom: Wicked video thanks for posting. Looks great in real life.
Price a bit out there. 135 thousand pounds.. wow.

I guess it is special production numbers wise. Getting seen off by a larger cheaper M3P might be a bit much for me swallow but great for a track car if you have the cash for a weekend toy

  • The interior is so dated on a Renault in general. I've seen 2020 Kia with a better interior. I have no idea how they will compete in the future.

    • Renault probably have some of the nicest and most exciting EV's in the pipeline.

      • Compared to?
Renault as a brand comes nowhere close to 'nicest and exciting' in EV's.

When people talk about EV's, renault is not the brand that comes to anybody's mind.

        • Compared to any other EV maker on the planet. Look at the recently released Scenic for starters.

    • They've done a major refresh since the Megane, namely with the 2025 Scenic (though that's a bit bigger than this, though still small-ish at 4.45m long) eg Google built in. Good range. Well reviewed. Unfortunately the 360 camera is still low res.

    • the interior is actually great. 2x great screens with nice interfaces, lots of recycled materials and a genuinely lovely place to sit. The big plus is the amount of physical controls instead of having to do everything through an tablet glued to the dash.

  • Geely EX5 is so much better than this, and a lower price too.

The inability to price their cars properly will be the detriment of these niche European brands.

    • There’s more to a car than a spec sheet. This actually drives like a car and has soul.

      • Agree. I know we all love a good OzB but for many, not everything is specs v purchase price.

    • Geely looks better but Renault drives better.

  • Does it come with range anxiety?

    • Depends if you're prone to anxiety

  • When I keep hearing of battery related fires, I just cant make up my mind if I want to buy an EV or just see through this war and keep my diesel

    https://www.livemint.com/news/world/massive-fire-breaks-out-…

    • Stop with your FUD, even the article states "The fire was caused by improper external construction operations, and there was no battery self-ignition or quality problem with mass-produced vehicles". Also put down that phone you are using as it's just as likely to catch fire. Which is far far less likely than a diesel fire.

      • My biggest worry is being in a crash, getting trapped inside the car and burn inside it.. I dont drive my phone and the likelihood of it catching fire due to a crash is negligible :)

        • No wonder you hate the Autobots

        • Except ICE vehicles catch fire at a rate 80x that of EVs. https://www.mynrma.com.au/open-road/advice-and-how-to/unders…

If you're referring to the issue of Tesla car doors not opening in a crash because the electrical system fails, that's actually a reasonable fear. They do have mechanical door releases but you need to tell your passenges where it it (a little pull as bit below the main handle). Not ideal for kids, elderly or anyone who may not remember in an accident.

Volvo's new EX40 has come ame up with the common sense solution where a half pull on the handle electronically opens the door, but pulling it all the way (as you would when panicking in a crash) releases it mechanically. Hopefully others follow.

        • My biggest worry is being in a crash, getting trapped inside the car and burn inside it..

Dont buy a car with stupid door opening systems then. That isnt an ICE vs EV decision.

On the topic of fires. A diesel use just randomly caught fire in front of us the other day.

        • My biggest worry is being in a crash, getting trapped inside the car and burn inside it..

@Megatron then do not buy a car with stupid electric door handles. This has nothing to do with EVs.

  • This is actually a very decent crossover BEV if you've driven one. Yes it has the Renault quirks too. Renault BEVs seem to be more reliable than their ice counterparts (although to be honest they are contrary to popular belief, fairly reliable for a European brand). This would be on my shortlist if not for the updated MG4 EV.

  • It’s Megan in French so your car is a Megan Sally Kathy

  • I'd buy a Renault.

  • Support 22kw ac charging

    • Not in Australia. We get a cut down version missing Level 2 ADAS, connectivity and 3-phase AC charging.

  • Renault are refreshing their range including their interior tech. I'm guessing this is part of running out the old models. New Scenic well worth a look - even if you don't want its slightly bigger dimensions, it's got better range, connected tech like Google built-in, digital key on your phone, electrochromic sunroof etc that shows where Renault is taking things for new models inc the next Megane.

  • After Clarkson raved about the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, I was hoping that it would arrive in Australia, but it won't yet.

It's Car of The Year in Europe and way more appealing than a Chinese car for me

    • Renault 4 and 5 wont be coming any time in the near future. It lacks top tether anchor in the middle seat.

    • Did you see the Alpine version? My son showed me a review and even though I don't think it's worth the premium it looks pretty swish.
