  • Mmm when is Restaurant/Cafe Choice or TCN Restaurant coming up!

    • The pub and bar works at most restaurants and cafes from my experience

      • +3

It does, but it gets annoying when it's done to small amounts left on card which is easier to use at fast food chains vs restaurants/cafes.

        • +1

Actually, I prefer Pub and Bar which can be easily split in Dan Murphys combined with gift card. As Subway no longer accepts gift card top up, it is really difficult to squeeze every penny of restaurant card

          • @SAVE100IFDONOTBUY: Does the Pub & Bar gift card definitely work at Dan Murphy's?

The wiki suggests Dan's MCC is 5921 (Package Stores, Beer, Wine, and Liquor) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/mcc_list , which is not an MCC listed in OP's post above as an MCC where this gift card is accepted.

            • +4

@New Chump: It sounds like TCN allow transactions at MCC 5921 on these gift cards, but they also block any transactions at Liquorland (which is presumably how transactions at other liquor stores go through fine).

It kinda makes sense for the MCC to be whitelisted in the first place, because in parts of Australia where liquor can only be sold by hotel operators (e.g. QLD), it would not surprise me if a pub sold liquor to consume on-site or off-site through the same EFTPOS terminal and therefore some of these terminals used MCC 5921 instead of MCC 5813.

My guess is that the sheer volume of transactions at Coles liquor stores last year caused TCN to block them (rather than the MCC itself). If Dan Murphy's and BWS still sold WISH gift cards in their stores, I bet you TCN would have blocked transactions at them by now.

          • @SAVE100IFDONOTBUY: You cant use Pub and bar gift card at subway anyway can you

          • @SAVE100IFDONOTBUY: Do you split payment in store at Dan Murphy? Can this be done online to?

            • +1

@Spizz: I did online and combined with Dan GIFT card purchased from wws mobile

Is TCN the one impacted by gift card tampering?

      • Use it at Grill'd. Many people's experiences have stated that they allowed this.

        Best of luck!

  • Has anyone else had trouble adding a TCN 'Pub and Bar' gift card to their EatClub profile recently?

My previously added card is still working, but I can't add any new ones. It seems like no gift cards are being accepted now, only regular payment cards.

This has been happening since the day before yesterday.

    • I just linked a Cafe Choice (Blackhawk, not TCN) to EatClub app and it worked (haven't used it though but presume would work).

      • Did it send an sms to you or added the card without even sending the authentication sms?

        • No need for SMS, just linked card in the app.

The Pub & bar card linked few weeks ago still works (which is working for you as well, as long as added previously).

          • @Craze: You're lucky! My account used to be exactly like yours. No SMS was needed and the cards just linked instantly.

But since 15/04/2026, this new 3DS SMS requirement has kicked in for every single card I try to link, including my normal bank cards. The difference is that my bank cards link successfully after the SMS, but every prepaid card fails at the final step.

I've tried TCN Pub & Bar, TCN Restaurant, Restaurant Choice, TCN Digital Mastercard, and Activ Visa. All of them failed even though my previously linked cards still work.

            • @BrokeButHappy: have you tried removing cards from eatclub?

              fyi tcn now support 3ds

              • @tonester: I only have one card in my profile, and I'm afraid that if I remove it, I won’t be able to add it again. But since 15/04/2026, no card I've tried has been successfully added. As I mentioned, I do receive the SMS, but when I enter the code, EatClub gives a general error saying "There was an issue adding your card" and doesn't add the card.

I contacted Restaurant Choice card support, and they confirmed that they do not support 3DS. I also contacted TCN support. The support agent had no idea and didn't even know what 3DS was. They asked me to send an email, which I did, and now I'm waiting for their response.

                • @BrokeButHappy: have you tried contacting eatclub, else simply creating a new account?

                  • @tonester: Haha! Out of all of them, EatClub support has been the most useless. As soon as the issue gets even slightly technical, they just abandon the chat midway without any response, or even a goodbye. They have no idea what's going on.

When I call them, they tell me to send an email. When I email them, I get a generic, pre-written response that has nothing to do with my issue. When I reply and explain that their answer isn't relevant, they just ignore it and never respond.

If I call again, after multiple attempts with no answer, I eventually get through to an agent who says they don't know and need to escalate it to the technical team. And then… nothing. No follow-up at all. After a few days, when I call again, they say they're still waiting to hear back from the technical team. When I ask for an ETA, they just say they don't know.

@BrokeButHappy: I just added 2 Pub & Bar cards on Eat Club. I did have to convert them to digital cards first though.

                      • @BargainShopaholic:

I just added 2 Pub & Bar cards on Eat Club.

                        +1 :)

I did have to convert them to digital cards first though.

how else would you have added them?

                        • +1

@tonester: I was trying to be extremely clear and explicit for the poster here who was having issues, just in case they weren’t aware they had to convert.

                • @BrokeButHappy: TCN came back to me with the following response:

TCN cards are prepaid gift cards, and they do not always support the authentication or tokenisation steps used by some apps. When apps like EatClub require additional security checks (such as SMS verification or 3D Secure) when saving a card, the card may fail to be added.

This process is controlled by the third-party app and its payment provider, so we unfortunately do not have control over how the card is authenticated or saved within the platform.

You can also contact EatClub support to confirm whether prepaid gift cards are supported for saved payments.

  • Hopefully that is only a blip. I have been able to use Restaurant choice with Eat Club until now.

    • Thanks! Have you tried adding a new card today? My old ones still work, but I just can't link any fresh ones since the day before yesterday.

  • Sorry, no, 3 weeks ago I put in physical card details of a Restaurant Choice and it worked on Eat Club.

  • Whats this eatClub thingy going on here? what am I missing?
