Pay As You Go Prepaid Mobile SIM Plan: $15 Recharge for 365-Day Credit Validity @ amaysim

It used to be $10, until they raised the price to $15.

    • I use these in my gps. When on sale for the 28 days one $30 or similar. Just put as payg and gets one year. Hopefully they haven't changed them so locked to the 28 days or whatever they are. Otherwise gets the value added for the year. Woolworths usually having them on sale..

      • Going overseas in few weeks. Wonder if gps will work there? I know messages out won't. I got them on a server. Ruhavik. And some on traccar. Might take it with me anyways and try.

Will need roaming data, which is expensive on most prepaid/PAYG plans. You can buy a Roaming data pack for $25+ on amaysim, though.

        • SMS works overseas for bank OTP, just ensure that Roaming is ON but mobile data is OFF.

          • @stevenbraith: Thanks. Got esim dataplans when we go. Just on prepaid plans on phones so won't be any unexpected charges on them. Good to know the OTP works.
My mum.visiting from Sweden and suddenly all this extra cost was added to her bill. It was when people left voicemail. Even 2 second one as didn't get through They charged as overseas cost even though haven't gone into voicemail box and listened. Bit dodgy system. She didn't even had her sim card in her phone (that's why voicemail straight away). Had to turn of voicemail.

            • @Mikael: It's conditional diversions that can bite you when roaming. You can get charged for a call to the country you're in and one back home. Setting an unconditional diversion to voicemail is another way to avoid that if you want to receive voicemail. I suspect the issue you mention does not arise with VoLTE roaming as the call would remain entirely within the home network. Did you mum visit before the 3G switch off?

              • @Stingo: Nah. Came down mid Feb. Turned off mobile data and roaming. Still fee. Took out sim. Still fee. Contacted them and had to turn of voicemail. Strange but no extra fees since. Still no sim in to be sure and she using spare of my prepaid phones when here. Still using iMessages to her friends back home.

But you NEVER buy the 10 dollar and now the 15 dollar pack. You buy which ever 25/30/40 dollar pack when on sale for 10-15 etc and activate as 365 day.

You can then either use it as PAYG, or activate a monthly pack with the credit. E.g you can get a 40 dollar pack, activate as 365 PAYG, then use the credit to buy the 30 dollar 90 day 5GB deal, with 10 dollars PAYG credit leftover.

      • +1

Are you sure you can still activate the monthly packs as 365 day PAYG? Previous deals on ozbargain seem to mention that you can't do this anymore.

        • Contact customer service if you don't get it as an option. Check the details of the specific starter kit online beforehand if you want to be sure it's allowed. (I've no idea whether it's written on the packs themselves.)

          • +1

@tonester: See the reports below. Apparently, you no longer get this as an option at activation and amaysim require you provide a receipt and are only providing the discounted value of the SIM.

            • -1

@Stingo: sorry, did you actually read the link posted?

not an option online, but available after activation via chat - confirmed more recently

ps i had also seen the reports below, as per my reply to you

              • +1

@tonester: Yes. Have you read below? Seems the days of discounted AYG credit are a thing of the past.

      • so you buy the 25 30 40 packs for $10-15

and wind up with $25-40 of payg credit instead of 10-15?

      • +3

Not sure if this works anymore in the way you intend for it to work.

First question is whether you can activate it as PAYG. Even if you can, then the second question is, how much credit are they giving you?

It used to be the case that the hack was you buy them from special specifically from Woolworths (not Coles) because Coles prints the activation and Coles store/merchant receipt together. This was "bad" because it contains the specific info about how much you paid for the starter kit, and Amaysim would take that as the amount you paid, and give you that in credit.

Woolworths prints a separate activation receipt, and this was useful because you could email Amaysim just that receipt without sharing the merchant receipt (thus, they don't have a trail of exactly how much you paid for the starter kit). They seem to now have begun asking for this in order to see how much you paid.

They will then give you that amount as credit.

I suppose it can still be beneficial to activate a $10/12 amount on PAYG that you couldn't do yourself online anyway. But just wanted to point out that it seems the days of being able to pay $10/12 for a $30/35/40 starter kit and simultaneously getting that $30/35/40 starter kit in actual Amaysim Credit might be over.

Source: Tried doing this recently (about 2 months ago?) and Amaysim insisted that I had to share the merchant receipt, even when I told them I didn't have it

        • Amaysim insisted that I had to share the merchant receipt, even when I told them I didn't have it

"Gee, sorry amaysim I received the starter kit as a present with my new phone. I can't really ask grandma for the receipt. She would be terribly offended." So has amaysim stopped allowing the unlimited starter kits from being able to be activated on AYG?

          • @Stingo: Yes, the starter packs don't let you choose the AYG plan.

This OzBargainer recently bought a $50 starter pack, and found the cheapest plan that was offered was $25.

However, you may be able to talk to customer service and get the full value of a starter pack applied to the AYG plan, start reading here.

I have previously activated a starter pack on a 28-day plan, then complained the same day on chat that I wanted the AYG Plan and it wasn't offered. The Amaysim rep converted the plan to AYG with full credit, but that was over a year ago, and you may not get a rep as friendly as I did.

Also be aware that any bonus credit on the starter packs is "promotional credit", and expires in one year. So use it to renew the AYG plan about day 360, and add data top-ups to use any excess credit.

            • @Russ:

What I'm sharing above is contradicting this. Keen to hear if there are any recent success stories

          • @Stingo: Hahaha I did say that I didn't have it. Forgot what reason I used…

So has amaysim stopped allowing the unlimited starter kits from being able to be activated on AYG?

I think so - but even then, the other issue with what I'm sharing is that if you paid $12 for a $35 starter kit, and you try to "apply" the starter kit as a credit recharge via live chat, then what Amaysim now insist on is that you will only get $12 Amaysim credit because "that's what you paid for it"

So based on this, the only way to arbitrage this now is to just benefit from the bonus Woolies Rewards/FlyBuys you might get with it

            • +1

              @illumination:

Oh, they've gotten wise. Still it's decent of them to allow you to apply it all as credit to an existing service. I wouldn't expect that you could get away with doing it multiple times on the same service. You'd have to be a pretty good liar to lose your receipts all those times or mistakenly purchased the pack in error. I suppose you could have a very large family who keep gifting you phones with amaysim starter kits …

              • @Stingo: why would one need to keep a Woolworths receipts when the activation receipt include the Woolworths receipt number?

activation receipt is proof of the particular numbered starter kit being purchased, and if any issues, the Woolworths receipt number printed on it allows it to be verified and traced

        • Damn wqs good while lasted

      • It worked like that before, but NOT now. Last Feb I tried to active a $30 starter kit, but no PAYG options. I called Service desk, she can change it to PAYG after I activated $30 (and called her back). But the data finished 28 days later, and I got $15 credit until Feb 27. I still got the warning I cannot called out but when I sent 'BAL' to 568, the message showed it is PAYG. I still not 100% sure if I can call out from my phone with that Amaysim SIM.

Too much trouble. I just bought a $2 from Woolie, and plan to top up with $15 for payg for another number I want to keep, as instructed by the the Service Desk.

        • It worked like that before, but NOT now.

          not necessarily

I still not 100% sure if I can call out from my phone with that Amaysim SIM.
          Too much trouble.

too much trouble to try making a call?

    • Ommmggg so cheap

    • -2

It used to be $5 before the $10

Not actually a price increase as the call and SMS rates have not changed.
Just a minimum amount of credit to purchase first up.
I wonder what the minimum recharge amount is now???

Good if you only need to receive calls and SMS notifications.

    • If you’re just parking a number I think it’s lebre that’s $5

      Edit: apparently $10, swear I paid 5?

      • $5 if you activated via the app, I believe. I don't know if that's still the case. Lebara did increase their casual data rate from 2¢ to 3¢ per MB a couple of years ago but there was no other change I'm aware off.

        • I only use mine to park the number tbh, and receive sms codes

  • +9

This not a deal, something on special, or even something unique to Amaysim.

    • +6

Is it one of the only few no-fuss payg prepaid plan you can get to keep a number live, if not the cheapest.

      • lebara $2 sim + 10 activation

  • +2

Can u recharge use a $10 amaysim voucher from 711

    • yes, you can

    • Do the recharge vouchers ever go on discount?

    • It is pretty bad value considering you can pick up a starter sim for nearly the same price.

      • but the starter sims can only be used to get a new number AFAIK

  • +1

Thanks op. Moved my back up number from lebara to this now.

    • +4

      Lebara is still $10

      • +1

Yep and do eSIM to avoid the $2 SIM fee
        https://www.lebara.com.au/support/standard-plan/

        • There's a $2 fee for on-line orders as far as I can see regardless of whether they are virtual or physical SIMs. You can convert a physical SIM to an eSIM for free though. Going the other way you need to obtain the replacement SIM at your own cost. amaysim supplied a replacement SIMs at no cost when I did that a couple of years ago.

          • +2

@Stingo: Just go straight to activate https://my.lebara.com.au/activation/
            and select “GET AN eSIM”
And go from there. Select pay as you go when choosing a plan

            • @rpb: says page not found

              • +2

@furythree: Just click on activate on the home page. I was trying to link closer but failed

                • @rpb: Nice find! What's the min initial recharge via that method? I recalling reading some place that it is $5 via the app. Any idea if telephone support can issue an eSIM when you request them to do an activation?

                • @rpb: thanks! this worked. can even cycle numbers until u get one u like. thanks for this tip

        • also lebara sends through unsolicited promos to top up data for $10

i ignored a bunch of them, and when i finally recharged $20 i think, it suddenly gave me 6 gigs as if all the previous identical promos got triggered at the same time lol

          • @furythree: Can you share a sample SMS/email that you received about this?

            • +1

@illumination: it was just a text from lebara saying "recharge $10 (i think they changed it to $20 now) to top up your credit And get a bonus 1gb of data!"

i kept getting them when my credit was getting low and ignored it until i really needed to recharge. by then i had gotten multiple messages.

sorry it was on my burner phone so dont have a screenshot on hand

  • +5

    Not new.
Vodafone has a similar product. Get the $45 (now 50?) stater pack, frequently discounted to $15 or so.
It is promoted as a 1-month SIM, but can be activated on the PAYG plan. Lots more calls/data.

    • -1

link to deal? i need that rn

      • +3

What did your last slave die from?

    • +1

They don't seem to have a link for Pay and Go any more if indeed it's still available to new customers. The old link redirects to a support page. Whether it's available to new customers or not it its not great plan to continue with. Just about everything is more expensive than Lebara and you can't buy data add-ons from the pool of credit that a recharge provides. I think there is another pool of credit "MyCredit" that can buy add-on from and "top up" separately and buy recharges from though. Having never used it I find it confusing and I'm not about to spend $50 to find out when amaysim, Aldi mobile and Lebara will give you a year for $15 or less. The best thing though with Vodafone is their data add-ons roll over which AFIAK the Lebara ones do not.

  • Can also buy a starter pack with higher $ value during specials at coles/wlw and get them to activate it on PAYG.
    YMMV

  • +10

Aldi also offer similar $15 Payg 365 day option but they use the Telstra Network.

    • Can you pls share the link as I can only find 30 Day Plan for $15. Thanks

      • -1

Aldi increased the price of the $15/30 day plan last year in response to TW price increases.

        • I used the Aldi one for years. (I am a light user/mostly home wi-fi works for me). Aldi stopped the $15 recharge after apparently informing their customers.. No communication received, despite spam check etc.), Customer service was AI and led nowhere.
Thanks for your post regarding Vodaphone, Stingo. Will definitely look into that one.

        • +1

          thanks mate

    • they changed it to 6 months only, did they recently change it back to 1 year?

      • They don't have $5 starter kits any more. I think they were only for 3 months only before they discontinued them. Probably all those SIM sluts were to blame.

  • +8

I've been using this to give to variety online retailers when they ask for number…. :) I don't know why BONDS need my number. Underwear emergency I guess?

    • Delivery companies usually like a contact number supplied.

      • yeah! Amaysim FTW! change number yearly….

  • +2

U can just recharge with any of their lowest plan then let it expire and itll switch over to the “as you go” plan automatically so u keep the number for another 365 days without having to recharge

i do this with all my cool numbers hehe, so i basically just recharge once a year for $10

    • +1

Don't you lose your numbers after 90 days?

      How do recharge for $10?

      • You recharge with the $10 short expiry plan, then after 7 days itll expire and move itself over to the “as you go” plan which is $0 for 365 days

    • +1

I called Amaysim last week, and was told after the credit expired, the number could only receive messages and calls for another 90 days?

      • +1

Ive been doing what ive said above for years now, just let the $10 short expiry plan expire and text “bal” to “568” & itll let u know your number will expire in a years time

        • +1

Cool and thanks. Tried to ext “bal” to “568”, and the see the number will expire in 90 days.

Let's say we purchase one starter pack on promotion ($10/$15 for $30/$40 credits), and port in as “as you go” plan. The credit would last for 1 year. After the credit expires, the number will expire in 3 months. In total, we pay $10 for 15 months, plus around $30 credits to use for a year.

          This sounds slightly better?

          • @bravemeow: No, the plan u spend money on only works during the timeframe it says it will, after it expires itll always move your plan over to the “as you go” plan

            • @Nvu: Tried this recently (March) after doing it for years, seems not the case any more.

When did it last work for you @Nvu?

  • +13

I think TOP10 message to 568, lets you recharge with $10. From following year.

    • Thank you for this info🙏

      • +1

or just buy $10 voucher from Colesworth or elsewhere

        • Confimed this works to recharge PAYG 365 days with $10 voucher

    • +1

      This is the deal. thanks

    • cool trick, because the website makes it seem like $15 is the minimum to get the 365 day expiry.
has anybody tried this recently? and can confirm that it will set my expiry date to today+365 days?

      • +1

I presume you'll get an error response if TOP10 is no longer supported. It's still documented at the moment. If it's accepted and doesn't increase the expiry date I would contact customer service.

    • This worked for me, but be aware that it resets the 365 days so do it as close as possible to when you actually want to do it! I should've waited a couple weeks myself, but oh well, it's $10.

      • did you do it recently?

        • +1

Yes, half an hour ago. Expiry now 17/04/2026.

          • @rith: thanks. did it too. can confirm it works. 1 year for $10.

          • @rith: Expires today??
            You mean 2027?

            • +1

@rpb: I do indeed mean 2027. Can't edit as it was replied to already! Oops!

              • @rith: Cool yeah just checking it didn’t fail as it was only $10 and you’d get caught out.

Across the family we probably have six of these but it’s been a few months since my last $10 recharge with a voucher from Woolies. Just making sure they hadn’t closed the loopholes

            • +1

@rpb: it gave me "Expires 16 Apr 2027"
