Ichiran Ramen 5x124g $18.99 In-Store @ Costco (Membership Required)

I did not know they sold this locally in Australia. Just recently carted 3 boxes back from Japan and they were even more expensive than this. Normally $23.99. Save $5

Make sure you dont grab the vegan one

    • +11

It's definitely the vegan one Costco are selling; I've never seen the standard tonkotsu one in store

      • I bought this from costco, don't see anywhere on the package that mentions vegan?

        • the ingredients?

          • @thrillhouseozb: The little english sticker is tiny I couldn't read. Just magnified it and it seems vegan ingredients.

        • +3

Does your box have a white sachet, a green sachet and a red sachet to go with the noodles? If so, it's vegan. Standard tonkotsu doesn't have the green or white sachets; just the broth satchet and the red sachet.

        • +2

Costco used to say it was vegan on the package, but now they took it off. False advertising. I totally fell for it until I checked inside the package.

      • How does it compare to the non vegan ones?

        • Vegan one isn't as great as the tonkotsu one in my opinion. But also, I've yet to have an actual proper bowl of Ichiran ramen

          • @kerfuffle: The proper one taste the same, the broth and the noodle and the red pepper anyway, you just need pork slices, and other things hehe.

            • +1

@tinx: You need a private booth to truly enjoy it. Preferably with an unidentifiable person serving on the other side

Costco only sells vegan ones, the real ones usually have slices of pork shown on the packaging.

      • Yeah looks like it’s vegan

Tong Li supermarkets in NSW sell the standard tonkotsu ones for about $35 for a box of five

  • +1

I thought that was the minesweeper image

Recently bought a 5 pack from amazon for $50. Expensive but very very good ramen! Just finished my last serve so due to buy more but need somewhere that delivers!

  • +6

found these packets very mid and not worthy of the premium price

    • +1

What's premium and worth the price?

      • +5

        Actual ramen?

    • -2

So for roughly $5 a bowl, you feel it should be premium as the real thing?

      • +3

It’s a premium over other 2 minute noodle variants. I’d rather buy a $1 noodle packet.

    • -3

No they're not, I'm currently in Japan and went to try it in store. Mid at best, the 2min versions taste the same as in store.

Just salty bland broth, a ton more alleyway ramen shops have creamier broth.

lol downvoted for truth. Ichiran is way overrated (for food quality).

        • +2

Ichiran may be overrated compared to small family-run spots in Japan but saying these instant noodles taste the same as in store is just incorrect.

          • @magicpelgrave: Nope, I bought the instant (not vegan) kind and had it when I got to my hotel. There's not much to basic ramen, the broth is just fattier and saltier in store. Had this been tonkotsu ramen, then I'd be impressed that packet noodles would come close to freshly made.

Just go ippudo in japan, better ramen than this and zero lines. Plus all the toppings are included and don't double the price of the base ramen.

Same here, pales in comparison to the real thing, unfortunately other Japanese instant ramen packs are miles better, shame it's impossible to find the 7-11 gold instant ramen in Australia :( they are insanely good but take up so much luggage space

      • +3

Which one do you recommend that are miles better?

  • +1

You are getting the Vegan One, very different from Japan. We get fooled too 🤣🤣

    • Just put a piece of chashu on it and it won't be vegan anymore :)

      • +1

The sauce itself is different, we compared it before from One we brought from Tokyo vs Costco ones. So never again. Unfortunately, asian supermarkets are selling the non-vegan but bloody so expensive.

  • It's vegan at costco but pretty good. I'd say it's better than the costco one in the fridge section that's heat and eat. I add an egg and some pork to these ichiran one but it's fine without. This is the first time I can recall these being on sale. I checked best before dates on these a few weeks back and it was jan 2027. Will be stocking up next time i go.

    • Yeah I don't rate the Costco/Kirkland tonkotsu one either.

  • +1

Costco ones are vegan. I love the Japanese pork ones and couldn't eat the Costco vegan variants. Your milage may vary.

  • -3

Lol sorry to burst your bubble mate, but they've been selling this stuff in Australia in Asian supermarkets for close to a decade.
I remember because I first got them like way back in like 2018 in one of the Asian supermarkets in Sunnybank after my third Japan trip.

    • +2

yeh i know. i mean locally as in for the australian market. not imported with markups

Not going to lie but that was a pretty cool story. I might re tell this story the my grandson one day.

  • Hey OP are the specials in the joomag link the same as the yellow "instant rebate" deals in store? How do I find the next Costco catalogue on joomag when it comes out? Thanks in advance

    • i think it's just instore special prices

  • +1

If you have costco membership and go to japan, you should check out their costco!

    • i was thinking that but it was at least an hour outside of tokyo cbd

  • Personally think these bring home instant Ichiran Ramen are fairly pointless. Without the atmosphere, without the condiments and without the customisation it is just regular Tonkotsu and with that you can buy 'raw' instant Tonkotsu for maybe $3.50 a pack . No need to rush into this.

  • +1

I saw Ichiran in Genki Mart at Town Hall i think different flavour

    • +1

Yep, pack of 5 for $35 and they are the Tonkotsu ones.

  • Oh no.. We’ve been tricked. I don’t prefer Vegan ones

  • is it good?

    • put some onsen eggs, seawed and meat (chicken/pork)…. love it.
