Theres a video of a youtuber guy with a tiny unrideable infant wooden pretend bike having pints at the pub…. then calling them up and they send a maxitaxi to take them back home after the pubm

I would assume they will fix that loophole

Cheaper than Uber

I've used this in this condition twice.
Once, i had muscle cramps.
Second, i got heatstroke.
Also, once i had a puncture but the mechanic they sent got no idea how to replace bike tyres so i just asked for a taxi.

isn't that three times?

Retiring twice, mechanical once.

He didn't say he's a mathematician.

@wetsandwich: actually was my bad. He DID say for the above condition twice and then added the mechanical after

Did they leave the bike for you to get yourself later?

They send a maxi taxi.
You gotta remind them though as sometimes there is a disconnect between RACV and the taxi company.

Seems obvious but, VIC only

not obvious to me. i wish they had this in nsw!

Do they send physical membership cards for this?
This seems a cheap way to access their gift card promos.

On the page near bottom right it has a link off to the rewards section so would be thinking that is a yes to the access not so sure about the physical cards

Correct, my wife does not hold any other RACV policies and get the benefits just by paying $10 per year.

Gift card promos worth it?

Yeah it is, I regularly combo 4% off woolies essential giftcards and 5 cents off fuel vouchers at Ampol which has more than paid for this, additionally, I've used a few taxi cabs that have paid off easily.

Worked out to $8.50 with my gold member discount!

Just purchased it even having been an existing member before…

Does RACV come to your house for a flat tyre, or do they only help if you're stuck out on the road?

I mean how would they ever know? Just stand outside the neighbours if you want. Still changing a tyre is super easy just do it ya self. Have a spare tube at home.

Yep, they will come to your house for a flat tyre. Or for anyhting they normally do. Locked out, flat battery, just won't start etc.

Bike won’t start?

Electric bike.

No, I just tried, they don't do repairs or fix it as per the rep.
They will book a taxi that will take you to a nearest shop to buy tube/repair kit.So looks like it's a emergency taxi service only.

does it support electric scooters?

Nope

In the FAQ:
Does RACV Bike Assist cover e-scooters?
Unfortunately, Bike Assist doesn't cover e-scooters but does cover all types of bicycles including mountain, road and electric bicycles.
If you need assistance for a broken down mobility scooter or wheelchair, we can help with Emergency Wheelchair and Scooter Assist.

E-bike included can be good for some as people try to avoid cars these golden fuel days

They don't assist with flat tyres on e-bikes, as it can be tricky to fix, so they just do the maxicab route.

I so wish NSW had something like this.
This is worth it even for the occasional trip to Vic, esp. going down for the rail trails.

Is this the NSW equivalent? (just a quick google search)

Yes, but $55.
$10 is a no-brainer, $55 less so.

My Bike Assist expired last year. Still a current Roadside Assist member and I was able to purchase Bike Assist for $8.50.

ive signed up for 2 separate years for free now, used it once for a genuine puncture i couldn't fix on the spot. it was genuinely good.

You can get this included in your roadside assist for free with a quick phone call

Are you sure? It's free if you have Total Care, but not sure about standard roadside assist.

I had standard roadside assist the past few years until getting my EV on lease a year ago and I always waited a week or 2 past the expiry on roadside assist and RACV would call and offer half price and bike asisst to keep me.
Now I just have RACV membership as an attachment to my dads membership lol, easy

Thanks heaps mate. Just signed up.

tried to bunny hop over a log with my mountain bike. broke and lost the seat, derailleur and hanger. will they bring parts, replace and repair under this cover?

For sure, and while you wait they will also give you a massage inc. happy ending!

Will I get access to gift card and other promos? Is it worth $10 only for that as I am NSW based.

Yep

Didnt realise this existed. Just got a bike to stay fit, this might come handy. Thanks OP

Worth noting that the Taxi will only take you up to a $50 ride which from my testing seems to be only about 8-10km.

Thank you for your service

Yes, but in many cases maybe enough to take you back to a train station and you can continue from there

Do you pay for the tube when they fix the flat tire? If so, how much do they charge?

Imagine needing to PAY someone to help you fix such a simple thing as a push bike. LMFAO

There are literally whole businesses devoted solely to this. Not much imagination required.
Also for $10 maybe some people would rather grab a coffee next door and watch while someone else gets their hands dirty?

Yes, I'm aware Australians prefer to have some lowly pleb do the dirty, yucky hard work for them. See: Immigration policy, also known as 'modern slavery but legal'.

Some mechanical issues are beyond just simple punctures though.
But of course you would carry the entire catalogue from an LBS in your backpack?

I don't ride a bike. If I did, I wouldn't pay for someone to fix it, I'd figure it out myself like most people with an IQ that exceeds 80 or what was normal for humans for 100,000 years up until recently.

this is not for getting someone paying for fixing the bike… this is for emergency fix on the road.
you wouldn't understand this as you don't ride a bike yourself, you wouldnt be carrying ALL the tools needed to fix any mechanical issues. most people would usually only carry simple puncture repair kits/tubes. i havent met anyone carrying a chain breaker tool, etc.

Everything can be fixed if you have the parts and the tools, however, it is unlikely you’ll be carrying both when you’re riding.

Didn’t even realise this exists.
“Too tired to ride, lost or dehydrate”.. that’s one of the cover benefits. Just imagine calling them up saying you’re feeling tired, please carry me home. Brilliant.
