50

This monitor is not as popular as the other ones in the market but i have one and I think they are great. Use it for a mix of productivity (Macbook Pro) via USB C Thunderbolt and light gaming via display port.

  • Would be good to include the refresh rate in the title :)

    • Sorry yes I should have - 175Hz

  • Any reason to pick over the 32" flat panel 240hz QD-OLEDs? Generally seem to hover around 1k mark..

    • 32" 4K much better than 34" 1440p IMO.

I'd pick the 42" 4K LG C5 over either which goes on sale for a bit over $1K every now and then, and is currently on sale at JB Hi Fi for $1288.

      • Same here change from 34inch 1440p 144hz xiaomi monitor to LG C5 42inch and im loving it. got it from Bing Lee for $1139 during Easter sale.

        • I went from a Dell 32" 4K 144hz IPS to 42" 4K 120hz OLED and could never go back to anything smaller/non OLED.

A 34" 1440p ultrawide is similar in horizontal size to a 42" 4K. The 42" just has more vertical height so it takes the same amount of desk space and has a similar PPI.

It's strange my earlier comment got downvoted for stating a preference. I wonder if they have ever sat down in front of a 42" 4K OLED for gaming or multimedia.

          • @studentl0an: Do you notice the worse PPI going from 32" 4K to 42" 4K?
Sitting at a desk (say arms reach from the screen) it feels like it would be a downgrade in terms of sharpness (gaming) and screen real estate (productivity).

I'm considering upgrading one of my 27" 4K 60hz IPS to an OLED and am having a hard time considering anything other than 27" 4K.

            • @Wip3out: It's a very similar PPI with ~5% difference compared to 27"/34" 1440p monitors.

With the higher PPI monitor before the 42" 4K and all I had to do was push the monitor back a little bit, which I would have to do anyway considering the massive and much more noticeable FOV increase. When it comes to gaming, media consumption, and productivity (being able to leave 100% scaling in Windows, unlike higher PPI monitors which required 125% or more) the size increase is massive compared to a slight reduction in PPI. It's not a phone that's close to your face where PPI really matters. The monitor is 80cm away from my eyes.

              • @studentl0an: Thanks for the reply,

You said you went from a 32" 4K though, google says that's a ~30% difference in PPI vs the 42" 4K.

                I'd be going from a 27" 4K which would be a ~55% difference.

Maybe the fact you used scaling before makes it more tolerable, I've been using 27" 4K at 100% scaling (60cm from eyes) for nearly 5 years now so I think the PPI drop would be a shock.

                • @Wip3out: The 5% difference is from this deal 34" 1440p.

The 30% difference with the 32" 4K was actually welcomed as I found I needed 125% scaling on the 32". 100% scaling was too small for me and 125% was a bit large but manageable. With 42" 4K I can go back to 100% scaling which at 80cm away is fine for my eyes.

Are you actually using 100% scaling on a 27" at 4K?

                  • @studentl0an: Ah that's where your 5% comes from.

I definitely use 100% at 27" 4K and I find it perfect personally, sounds like I may be an outlier though.

I have been considering 32" 4K though, which is why I was asking about your experience in how you handled the PPI change, but if were previously using scaling on the 32" then that makes sense. We're lucky there is so many options.

            • @Wip3out: 27inch 4k is overkill. you will need something bigger at least 32inch.

    • What's your use case

      • I'm team 32" 4k OLED 240hz. But wanted to know why people would prefer the other, that's all.

        • I’m looking to go from 32” 4K to wide screen haha. May hate it but so I’ll keep it on stand by. Missus prefers 34” for her style work (2x docs open side by side as she gets neck issues) even with my 27” vert before the 32”

  • Where are all the flat 34" OLED or MiniLED monitors, so hard to find them!

  • For first gen QD-OLED panel, not a good deal I think. Sub-pixel structure is less suitable for productivity work.

    • Agreed, if possible I would consider waiting to get the Alienware AW3425DW
It goes on sale fairly frequently
