Pay As You Go Prepaid Mobile SIM Plan: $10 Recharge for 365-Day Credit Validity @ Lebara

670

Lebara PAYG is still the cheapest possible way to get a number, park a number, use for OTP or sign up to marketing spam in Australia for a whole year (+80 days). Free incoming texts when roaming in the countries listed in the CIS. To join the PAYG plan, get a $2 SIM, activate the SIM and recharge the service.

It has cheaper calls to 13/1300 numbers, cheaper data and generally cheaper international rates (e.g. same SMS price for national and international numbers) compared to amaysim's $15 option.

Number expires 80 days after plan expires if it is not recharged.

This plan uses Vodafone’s 4G network.

Rates:

  • Standard national calls: 15c/min
  • 1800 numbers: Unlimited
  • Standard national and international text: 15c
  • Data: 3c/MB
  • Standard national and international MMS: 25c
  • 13/1300 numbers: 15c/min
  • Lebara to Lebara standard national calls: Free
  • Incoming texts when roaming: Free in permitted roaming countries

      $15 minimum recharge

    • +3

$2 Sim starter kit plus $15 regular recharge

        • Entire second line is wrong.

Cannot port to Lebara $2 Sim anymore
Can't port back to A with inactive/deactivated Sim

Lebara recharge $10 min not $15

            • @ATTS: Not sure when this ever worked but you cannot activate Sim back or freshly onto a deleted deactivated Sim card

But yeah they closed loophole of $2 Sim activate without recharge

There are good for low-data use IoT stuff, like GPS car trackers.

The main reason i prefer amaysim is because YOU CAN CHOOSE YOUR OWN NUMBER

after the plan expires it’ll automatically move u over to the $0 “as you go” plan which last for 365 days so i only recharge once a year for those cool number ive chosen myself to park

You can also like buy cheap amaysim 1 month Sims from supermarket for cheap and then use them to recharge for a higher pyg balance.

Like $30 -$35 Sim for $10-$12 on sale

Ofc next recharge will be a bit higher

      • +3

They've removed the PAYG option in newer starter packs

        • +1

Oh really ? Didn't know. Good to know before I bought this newer one.

          • @USER DC: Yes. Check the starter pack details page online before buying.

          • @USER DC: You can still get the rest of the credit as PAYG if you use $10 of it to buy the 7 day plan (unless they change that as well).

        • Same with Voda AFAIK. I activated a 35$ pack the other day, maybe a week ago, and got the 180 day PAYG plan with it. Activated another 35er last night, only let me pick a 28 day expiry thing :'(

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Correct, they changed this a couple days ago.

          • @TheDukeOfNukem: Dang even Vodafone remove this thing I was gonna do it later with another number. But ohh well Lebara is the clear winner then I guess

How is a ten digit number starting with 04 cool in any way?

      • +2

Weve just got to live with the 04 in front, the rest you could possible find numbers that u like afterwards

I have a feeling because Amaysim's grace period is longer, it might actually be cheaper if you're not considering the calling/data rates.

If you spend $10 (or even $15) on Amaysim's PAYG for a year, I think it lasts another 6 months after expiry.

If you're not trying to build up Amaysim credit, you can recharge right before the grace period. That makes it $10 or $15 per 1.5 years.

      • +1

I've had Amaysim PAYG for years and don't even have to recharge yearly. Just need some "usage" every 6 months i.e. send an SMS or use a small amount of data.

That makes it around 20c per year to keep the number active.

        • You're on postpaid, no longer available to new customers. I don't think amaysim ever enforced their usage requirement or specified paid usage. I can't find it in their current terms but maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

      • No, only 90 days. Lebara's terms are inconsistent but it looks like you get 70 or 80 days to recharge on PAYG before they cancel the service. Curiously and unlike any other provider I have been with they retain credit on the service for 60 days after it expires but you can't make any outgoing usage. An ordinary interpretation of their terms implies that you can ("no restriction") but this is not the case. I am in the 60 day period at the moment and customer service has confirmed my credit will be retained if I recharge during this period. If anyone wants to leave recharging longer than 60 days at the expense of their credit I suggest they confirm with customer service about how much extra time they have.

        • Which point are you refuting? Because I only spoke about Amaysim in the comment you replied to but you're only talking about Lebara.

What you said sounds useful though and I do have a number parked with Lebara, so I'll still take note of what you said. I paid $10 on 8 Jan 2026 so going by what you said, this number (without any subsequent interventions) will remain valid until 7 Jan 2027 + 90 days or 70/80 days? And then 7 Jan 2027 + 61 days is when my $10 will be fully gone, but if I recharge on 7 Jan 2027 + 60 days, I still have a chance of retaining the credit.

amaysim will only retain the number for 90 days post credit expiry. See section 6.4 of their Mobile Services Description or section 10.3 of their General Terms. The remainder of my comment is about Lebara. I don't know what time let alone its timezone when Lebara action events so to be safe check with customer service or recharge a day early i.e. do they action credit expiry or service cancellation first thing on the xth day i.e. midnight or at the end of the day.

@illumination: I've recently been through the process. My service had an expiry date of March 6 which adding a 60 day grace period brings to May 5. On April 29, Lebara sent me a reminder which stated: "This credit will expire on 06/05/26" but is that 12:00:00am or 11:59:59pm and therefore an extra day? (and which time zone?) Anyway, I didn't want to risk that and since my expiry voucher also had an expiry date of May 5 I recharged on the 5th and I can confirm my recharge was added to my existing credit. However, I'm not writing just to confirm their behaviour. Their reminder email also stated: "If you don't recharge or port your number (redacted) by 04/07/26 your phone number and account will be disconnected." That would equate to 120 days which is not a number mentioned in the SFOA summary linked above so it could well be a typo but it wouldn't surprised if this is another case where the terms differ from reality. You might even be able to receive incoming calls and texts for the entire period.

FWIW, the voucher I bought in 2024 had an expiry date from the first half of last century. Lebara informed me then that recharge vouchers have a year's expiry from purchase and that proved to be the case when I recharged about a year later. While I was pleased to get a sensible looking date this year, I was a bit surprised by the short expiry of the voucher I bought this year, around 60 days, but given that it was just enough I didn't bother reconfirming the previous information from Lebara so anyone should confirm for themselves. Of course, you shouldn't buy vouchers excessively early but I had my respectively uninformed and informed reasons in both 2024 and this year and no they didn't involve any discounting.

    • When your plan expires and you're moved over to "as you go" , what happens to your databank? Do you know if it carries over?

  • +1

So pay $12 ($2 for sim card) for 365 days credits and extra 80 days for number keeping? right?

  • +1

Free incoming texts when roaming in the countries listed in the CIS.

Incoming texts should be free worldwide, provided you can get a signal. It should not be limited to the countries listed in the CIS, unless they happen to also be the only countries in which you can get a signal

Incoming texts is usually the only thing that is "universally" free

Whilst not quite as good, Telstra currently has their 6 month casual plan available for $13. Numbers do not expire for another 6 months after your plan ends, so you get a full 12 months of incoming calls/SMS for $13.

    • Esim isn't supported for $13.

I found Aldi mobile has the cheapest PAYG with eSIM. Are there any other providers that support eSIM for PAYG plans?

  • Amaysim have a post pay option though. They bill you at the end of the month and charge you when it reaches $10 or every 3 months whichever hits first. It's not for new customers though, you have to join any plan first and then switch to it when you're already a customer.

Another good option for number parking is Aldi. Join a family plan and you can switch numbers in and out of the family plan as you like. Every time you switch in it resets the 12 month validity period, then you can just switch it out and leave it parked in your account.

    • Postpaid hasn't been available to new customers for donkey's years. Those on postpaid plans also can't buy phones from amaysim shop without either picking up a new prepaid plan or converting the existing plan to prepaid since they require a recharge on a prepaid service as part of the conditions of sale.

      Wtf this sounds interesting.

So.. find someone who owns an Aldi family plan. Join their family plan and drop out to make space for someone else if necessary? Each time you drop out you get 12 months validity?

      • Pretty much. I have 8 SIMs on the plan, at any given time 6 are active. I just swap the tablet SIMs in and out as required

I had one with Aldi which expired and the number got disconnected. I managed to get my number back after 9 months from the disconnection date. Had to get the TIO involved.

    • Whoa. Mind sharing more info?

  • Support esim?

    • +1

Yep, click on the link to the $2 sim, then click "Buy now", then choose "email me an esim"

It arrived within ~30secs for me

Click on 'Activate' on the home page to avoid paying $2 for an eSIM. Credit to @rpb

  • incoming and outgoing calls same rate?

    • +1

Incoming calls are free to receive on all Australian providers except when roaming. When roaming incoming and outgoing calls are the same rate.

      • Thanks!

  • Thank you! Id asked twice in the telstra Sim deal thread and got crickets :(

    • Hmm.. at least crickets are free..?

  • Good one!

  • Where do I find the $10 recharge? Activating the Sim only shows plans staring from $200 for the 365 day plan and $25 for 28 day plan.

    • Activate it via the Lebara website - not using the app.

  • I just tried this and couldn't find the PAYG option when activating using the app. Ended up activating via the website and the PAYG option is there.
