    • you're not before the shit storm,

      you ARE the shit storm

  • Apparently quite a well put together cheap car. Reviews seem positive

  • Did Gwenyth Paltrow come up with the name?

    • Don't ask what the air freshener smells like

      • A fresh gac. Noice.

    • It's a perfectly cromulent name

  • Wow … that's really cheap … is it in similar size as Corolla Cross? Or smaller?

  • Cherry Tiggo 4 and MG ZS Vibe (10 year warranty) are the alternative options or maybe go hybrid in any of those but more expensive.

  • Is this the same company that built cars for Stellantis, Honda and Toyota and lost over a billion last year? Surely a company that needs to build its business, it can make a more attractive offer given the risks it might be an orphan that comes when a company is struggling.

    • No.

      Also based on Wiki article,

As of 2021, it was the fifth largest automobile manufacturer in China, with 2.144 million sales in 2021.

    • Probably thinking of Leapmotor

    • Yes, they are struggling.

FYI on 2025 financial results for some Chinese car makers selling in Australia:

GAC Group posted a big net loss of ~8.78 billion yuan in 2025 (reversing from a small profit in 2024). Long-term stability is a concern. Details:
      https://autonews.gasgoo.com/articles/news/gacs-9-billion-yua…

      For comparison:

      • BYD: Net profit 32.62 billion yuan (down 19% YoY, still strongly profitable)
      • GWM: Net profit ~9.9 billion yuan (down ~22% YoY, solidly profitable)
      • Geely: Net profit 16.85 billion yuan (flat YoY, beat estimates)
      • SAIC (MG): Net profit 10.11 billion yuan (up 506% YoY)
      • Chery: Net profit 19.02 billion yuan (up 34.6% YoY)
      • Leapmotor: Net profit 540 million yuan (reversing a 2.82 billion yuan loss in 2024)
      • XPeng: Narrowed net loss to 1.14 billion yuan (from 5.79 billion yuan loss); first quarterly profit in Q4
      • Deepal (Changan): Net loss ~899 million yuan (narrowed); parent Changan profit 4.08 billion yuan (down 44%)

Most remain profitable or are improving, though GAC stands out negatively.

      • SAIC (MG): Net profit 10.11 billion yuan (up 506% YoY)

        what the every living fuc???

they also own shit brand LDV

        • they also own shit brand LDV

People are buying it, lots of them. I'm don't mean they are good but notice many commercial vehicles on the road.

  • Not sure if I would trust a dual clutch transmission in this. They are hard to get right and very expensive to repair.

    • At this price, I wouldnt mind sending it to the junkyard after 7 years
But the question is whether they will survive 7 years in Australia
At the moment I feel like they are just dumping the older cars here in Australia

      • Been selling them for years in South Africa, they've held up there, no reason why they'd not in Australia, as climate is very similar, but the streets are far tougher there…

    • It uses an Aisin wet dual clutch.

      • Same company that made the R35 GTR gearbox. Apparently quite a few common Toyota run on Aisin as they own 20% stake in the company.

    • Next time ask for the table in markup

      • Thanks ai

      • (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

        • It's very very very hard to read.

    • AI bot, can you make an incomprehensible comparison between 3 cars, bonus points if you can add emojis.

      • @Grok is this real?

  • Should be called Cuck cause that’s what’s gonna happen buying this with no history in Australia and barely any dealer network and aftermarket support, including parts should you have an accident etc

    • It’s like all these Chinese cars, they are all written off after an accident coz they make the part prices sooo expensive

      • This is a new one. I've heard of parts taking a long time to arrive but so expensive as to write off the car, can you provide some examples for our enlightenment? Or can't provide any cause you made that up.

        • Go look at pickles and manhiem salvage auctions.

  • Buying theese cheap cars is asking for problems in the future. If the DCT has a issue you are up for big money. Being a new car and new brand i would not even recommend this to a enemy. Remember folks. There is a reason they are so cheap.

    • Up for big money after 7 years

    • There may be some truth to what you are saying, hard to know. A wet DCT is meant to fix the issues with the dry DCT. But my 2015 Golf wagon with a dry DCT is still running after 313k kms in Sydney traffic. I might just be lucky thought.

    • Alternative is to pay an extra ~$15000 for a Toyota Corolla Cross and get what looks like an inferior warranty and still no guarantee you won't get catastrophic failure just after warranty expires.

Not saying this car is the one to get, but I think in 2025 if you are buying a car that you plan to run in to the ground, the lifetime TCO for a cheap Chinese car will always be lower then a big brand.

      • Google 'Toyota Way' before comparing Toyota with a Temu car.

        • In case you haven't realised, GAC makes Toyota's…

          • @MkVIGTI: Toyota works with major suppliers but puts engineering teams, and quality control labs on manufacturer's ass.. Reliability comes from system-level integration. Toyota parts are easily available and do not break suddenly making them reliable. GAC is focused on price (corners have to be cut to get a car down to 26k (the car cost is actually a lot lower…may be $16k, then add profits & logistics to make it 26k) Toyota is focused on Quality. So there is no Toyota vs GAC comparison.

  • I don't get how it is class leading economy. Haval Hybrid SUV's have been getting better than that economy for years.

    • Hybrid v none hybrid, are they the same class?

  • "what type of car is that?"

    "It's a Gac"

    • He told me he's close, so I gacced on his chest

  • I had a bit of a concern after checking out the Melbourne Motor Show this year. I chatted with a GAC team member about the Aion UT, and overall it was a good conversation.

That said, when I asked about the dealer network and aftersales support, the answers were not very clear or confidence inspiring. It might have just been something lost in translation, but it did leave me a bit uncertain about how well they are set up on that front.

While not the car in the deal, the Aion UT did seem very well put together and sorted. Well featured for the money and plenty of room for the type of vehicle. Apparently next year, there will be a raised 'crossover' variant coming, for those interested.

  • has no one talked about the discount (or lack of)? will we need to pay for floor matts from the dealer?

  • What do you drive?
    2026 Gac Em Zooooooom 😭

  • I test drove it 3 weeks ago and found it drove well and it had physical HVAC controls, so thats a plus.

I could not get over it having a DCT transmission though.

  • As a GAC Emzoom owner I can tell you it's a great car to drive and you simply will not find better value for your money. Before purchasing this I looked at all the small/medium SUVs on the market.between $27K and $40K. I narrowed it down to 3 cars and took them for a test drive (MG (ZS and HS), the Haval Jolion and Hyundai Kona). I was about to go with the MG HS when I stumbled across the 3 GAC models available in Australia that were on display inside a Westfield shopping centre. The Emzoom is hard to walk past if you are going for looks. I drove straight to the dealership and took one for a test drive and I was sold on it. The dual clutch takes some ghetting use to, but once you have it worked out, it's fine. It has a 7 year warranty which is pretty standard. The MG warranty is 10 years, but you have to have it serviced at MG exclusively or you lose the extra 3 years. If you want a specific colour it's best to ring around the dealerships. There isn't many cars ready for immediate drive away sales. Typically it's a 6-12 week wait for delivery.

  • I own an Emzoom, and yes, the transmission is probably its biggest weakness. The car tends to jerk forward as soon as you take your foot off the brake, and you have to be very gentle with the accelerator at low speeds.

Another issue is fuel consumption - the car shows around 7-7.5 L/100 km, but in reality (at the pump) it's actually closer to 8-9 L/100 km. But I believe many cars underreport fuel economy..

There are also a few software gremlins, which will hopefully be fixed in a future update. Otherwise, it’s a pretty nice car and I’m enjoying all the new tech.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot about the service costs. There’s still no official service schedule, and some dealers are quoting prices that are absolutely insane - like $1,755 for the 4th service.

    • They don't force you to service at a dealership, so you definitely shouldn't service at a dealership.

      • They don't force you, but you lose roadside assistance if you service it elsewhere.

        • Fair, but you would still be better off paying $100-150 for roadside if you feel that you need it, rather then $1755 for a service.

          • @Aureus: Yeah, but $1,755 probably means there’s some major work scheduled for the 4th service - like a timing belt replacement (I know it’s too early for that, just an example).

I wish we had some official clarification from GAC.

            • @doperst: I would assume they are just not making much margin on the car, but want to make profit from the service centre. No service should be that expensive.

            • @doperst: I cant think of anything that would justify that price at the fourth service (assuming 40,000ks or so)
              Sounds like profiteering

    • $1755 for fourth service and not capped services under warranty? Gac! That sure is high! Thanks for the feedback.

    • Not sure where you've gotten $1755 for the fourth service from but I've been quoted the following:
      3 months/5000km - Free
      12 months/15,000km - $300
      2 years/25,000km - $412
      3 years/35,000km - $546
      4 years/45,000km - $646
      5 years/55,000km - $441
      6 years/65,000km - $1104

Still not cheap but nowhere near that $1755 figure.

      • That's a quote from GAC Preston VIC, someone posted it on facebook:
        15,000kms / 12 Months $358.00
        30,000kms / 24 Months $593.00
        45,000kms / 36 Months $448.00
        60,000kms / 48 Months $1,755.00
        75,000kms / 60 Months $358.00
        90,000kms / 72 Months $2,160.00
        105,000kms / 84 Months $358.00

        • Hmm weird. The information I've gotten is from GAC Wanneroo, a frequent poster on the Facebook group and an actual dealer. It's also the supposed recommended servicing prices from GAC to the dealers, so sounds like the prices you've gotten are from a rogue dealer charging a ridiculous increase over the recommended.

          • @brifog: I hope so.

            • @doperst: @brifog @doperst irrespective of the price, these two sets of intervals aren't even the same - clearly only one of them applies to this particular car.

  • GAC has been making cars for 70+ years but that won't stop the haters. This is incredible value.

    • GAC has been making Camry since 2004

    • They also have a fairly close relationship with Toyota and Honda.

      • Many marques have local assemblers/manufacturers for the Chinese market. Still, companies like Toyota and Honda would have pretty high standards.

    • Funny, they have not existed very long. I see a reference to ChangFeng making cars from 1988, and later acquired by GAC.
      Got anything earlier?

      • GAC actually invented not only the car but also the wheel.

  • Please join me in thanking these Chinese manufacturers for lowering car prices in Australia!

    • sincere gratitude extended. Competition for the buyers dollar is a beautiful thing, buying it or not.

  • Who would spend $27,000 on a car from a company they've never heard of?

    • Anyone heard of a car company called Build Your Dreams 4 years ago outside of china? Let alone buy one…

    • Just like frog in the well.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAC_Group

      • I've heard of Great Wall Motors, doesn't mean they weren't the laughing stock of the automotive world a decade ago.

From the tyres (Sentury Qirin 990) up you get what you pay for.

Suggest taking a look at the GAC Emzoom Australia group on Facebook. They are unfortunately no yet established when it comes to systems and processes.

  • This is GWM Jolion, Chery Tiggo 4, MG ZS

    • they are probably all worth shit when the sub $30k EVs come on line

  • Got excited thinking it was EV. if fuel was less then 5/100km id consider it.

  • Anyone thinking of a a sub 30k petrol SUV, please do yourself a favour and look at the Mahindra 3XO. I am 9 months in with mine (just had the 10km service) and couldn't be happier. It's the premium model. Every single one of the surprises you inevitably find as you go forward with a new car has been a positive one. It has knobs instead of everything in a screen and it's wide for a small car such that going from a KIA Carnival I haven't felt much difference. My other cars are i30s and like when I bought them (when they used to be cheap) I think these a great value, good car. They basically are an upgraded solid Korean car, the Ssangyong Tivoli. It has enough safety features for me and having nothing annoying beats anything missing that others have in this price range.

Anyway recommendation is just put it on your list and do a test drive. Finally any other 3XO buyers share or differ from my experience?
