  • Booked $1050 MEL-LAX return for June with Fiji a couple of weeks ago and thought that was a good deal.

  • Fly Air Pacific!

  • Canada is fantastic to visit but watch the time of year. It can get to -25C.

    • Perfect!

    • Depends where you go. Vancouver doesn't get that cold, not even close.

    • Went November 2024 and worst I got was maybe -4c at Banff/Lake Louise in the morning. Worth noting if you intend on travelling from Vancouver to Banff (and elsewhere) you need to have Mud & Snow tyres on the rental car at that time of year though

      • Also note that to hire most rental cars in Canada you need to have an actual credit Card.. they don't accept just the aussie debit cards

        • i don't think any rental company accepts a debit card, it must be a CC everywhere

  • How's Fiji Airline? Never flew with them before

    • They are nice

    • Fantastic outside of qantas or air Canada best way to get to Canada

    • Just keep in mind these are probably "Value" fares without seat selection.
Seat selection add on is very expensive (adds up to hundreds or more for a family) for even the worst seats, so we confirmed with the airline and got told they would always allocate a child with a parent, but yet on one leg they put our young under 9 y/o child in a row alone, mother in the seat behind, and me (father) across the aisle in the row behind, and classed that as all together for a long haul flight!! Given this child is shy and needs help with various things, like opening things for eating, getting out things from overhead such as tablet for entertainment etc, and would sleep leaning on someone, plus wouldn't want to sit with a stranger or alone for 9+ hours - plus across the Pacific for a lot of the flight the seatbelt sign is on so from the row behind you can't help, that did not work for us. Who would ensure a kid that young definitely gets their oxygen mask they can't reach if required? Crazy.

Even though the flight was not full and there were plenty of opportunities 3 seats across in standard seats - It seemed to me on all of the legs the automatic system split us (didn't put us in a window seat) so you had to pay to bring at least one person across to the group as an upgrade at check-in if available so they make some more money.
You don't find out where you are sitting until checkin 1-2 days before the flight.

However in one case of our four flights, as we were already in Fiji and approached the Fiji Airways desk at our hotel early 1-2 days before the flight, a staff member re-allocated a third person together at no cost extra cost (but we'd already paid for a second person to be moved next to the first). Others we waited until allocation apart then on the app moved someone near to the others or at least across the aisle as a paid "upgrade" to a standard seat at the back of the plane to unite the group.

They also have other weird charge policies like wanting to charge us hundreds like it was an extra bag to bring a child car seat or stroller - dozens of other airlines I've flown with allow one per child at no extra cost. So I donated our car seat to our transfer driver as it was cheaper to buy a new one!

Other than those policies, Fijians are always really friendly and nice, which shows in the airline, and the airline is good.

PS - The check-in line at SFO was absurdly long though, through the whole queue way and down the hallway past other airlines - without good kiosk / bag drop options. We were starting to panic we'd miss the flight but everyone was in the same boat.

  • Fiji Airways is ripping off it own citizens - Nadi to Vancouver return is AUD1675.

Is it possible to pay the fare from Sydney to Vancouver return but board and disembark in Nadi?

Asking for lots of Fijians. ;o))

    • Typically if you fail to take any leg of a booking then the rest of the ticket will be forfeited.

    • If you don't get on the first leg, the airline assumes you're a "no-show" and deletes the rest of your trip from their system. If you really need to skip a part, you have to call them and pay a (usually very expensive) fee to change your itinerary!

    • Also noting it may make sense you can't do it because they partially get this cheap because of things like Australian government subsidies to encourage flights to and from Australia - e.g. in the case of the Gold Coast fares - https://www.goldcoastairport.com.au/corporate-partnerships/a…

  • Super annoying how specifically gold coast is so much cheaper than Melbourne

    • Oh dear, for once in 50 deals, the shoe is on the other foot and there's a better deal to somewhere from the Gold Coast than Melbourne… cry me a river!
The Gold Coast is closer to Fiji / Canada than Melbourne, you know?! … FYI - It's actually because my Queensland taxpayer dollars are paying for it "supported by the Queensland Government’s Connecting Queensland Fund to boost tourism" (ironic given its probably encouraging domestic tourism to leave GC for Fiji and the Americas more than the other way around!) - https://www.goldcoastairport.com.au/corporate-partnerships/a…

  • $860 return to Canada is a great deal. Add a couple of points flights from your port of call and you've got a bargain.

  • $862 is a fantastic fare for Canada return on a full service airline!

  • Anyone know if you can have a long layover in Fiji?

  • It's a shame I can't get CBR-YVR to reliably find fares lately, they're even advertising a sale for that on their website but unless I pick dates for next week I can't find anything.

  • Paid more for Brisbane to Nadi school holidays April 26. A330 economy seats very comfortable. Couldn't imagine 12-15 hours. IFE movies were so so and breakfast average. Drinks service was non existent without attendant call button request. Slightly disappointing service but flight 16/4 was 100% full.
