Hi Ozbargainers,

I've used the 3 bears story before - but for those new to the game; I try to post deals here a couple of times a week which are always the cheapest available of product X or Y in Australia delivered. The good people of Ozbargain are often telling me "the exp date is too short", "the quantity is too small", "the quantity is too large", "I selected the cheapest free shipping, but its too slow", "I'm a good driver so don't need car insurance" - anyway, you get the point…

    Is anyone reliant on these? Apparently cetirizine is one of the worst offenders for antihistamine withdrawal. I’m talking about really itchy skin (intractable pruritus). I’ve tried coming off it but cannot tolerate the feeling. According to Reddit, I’m not alone. Tapering off doesn’t work but I’m yet to try the bridge approach and get on Telfast instead.

      Thanks for opening the comments with your rare side effects, seems like very few of the 89,000,000 users in the USA in 2022 reported symptoms similar to yourself.

        Spare me the sarcasm, if you have a look on Reddit, it’s not as rare as you make it out be. It’s underreported because people think they need to take Cetirizine to stop the itching when Cetirizine is the very cause of the itching. It’s called a “rebound effect”.

          Who is affected: It appears to be mostly reported in patients who have been on a daily, long-term regimen (months or years).

            @furyou: I’ve been on it for years because I was taking the very product that was causing this sensation to relieve me from it. Meanwhile, I’m getting downvoted by people who have nothing to say back about it. Standard issue OzBargainers.

      I need it daily for the rest of my life and have been on them daily since 2015 or my skin itches 100x worse than any withdrawal.

      I have dermatographia. Look it up if you're bored one day, common name "skin writing".

        I might have the same thing, I need to see a dermatologist. I don’t know if my skin itches because of the withdrawal to the antihistamine or exactly what you have described. I can’t stop taking it either otherwise it’s like my skin is on fire.

          Definitely go speak to a doctor, just be prepared to see more than one if the first one isn't helpful. I had to see 8 (!!) before I was correctly diagnosed. I got 7 different false diagnosis' before seeing the final one, then went to a specialist who confirmed it. Also a younger doctor may be better able to diagnose it. It was a trainee-doctor who got mine. Medical studies still fresh on the mind I guess. It's worth taking an allergy test first because it could just be something in your environment. That'll be great news if it's that.

          Dermatographia isn't actually a skin condition at all, it's the white blood cells going crazy underneath the skin. In a normal person when you have an infection or something foreign is introduced into the bloodstream, your white blood cells go to attack. With Dermatographia the white blood cells are attacking 24/7, forever. The antihistamine just disconnects that signal to the brain telling you to itch (like crazy!). If you have what I have, you'll notice if you scratch even when on AH, your body still reacts the same way (red marks, elevated or not), your brain just isn't getting the signal until they wear off.

          I've tried a few AH's and Zyrtec's are the only ones that give me 24hr relief, others give 12 and 8hrs.

          Finally, there is a risk your body builds an immunity to one and then you'll be forced to switch to another. 11 years on that hasn't happened to me, the smart thing to is to rotate but I hate having to take AH's more than once a day so I stick with Zyrtec.

          In short: I hope this helps, and hope even more that you don't have what I have. It's an adjustment. I'm good with it now but tried for years to find my own cure (no known cure exists).

              @p3r514n: You're welcome. It can be a nightmare to navigate at the start if you do have it, so I'm just sharing what I wish I knew :)

              PS it's worth watching the expiry dates, I usually buy 400 at a time so I'll often go a few months over and that's fine but a few years back I noticed they weren't getting me through the day anymore, then checked and discovered they were >12 months expired. So it indeed has an impact. But up to or around expiry seems to be fine.

    Why not $1.70 ordinary post?

      Stamp = $1.70, Envelope = 20c, Payment Processing = $1, Labour to pack $2.30 = $5.20

      It costs me $5.20 to send anything in an envelope, so at best it would be $5.69 for 10 tabs delivered.

      It would be a pretty poorly rated deal, the idea is that if someone is ordering 100-200-300-400 tabs they can add a few extra 10's on for basically nothing, given an existing transaction is underway, my cost is also basically nothing to add the extra 10 tabs to the parcel.

        200x Cetrine End June 2027 for $16.99 deal does not include postage, this is a deal which has a $7.99 satchel postage applied to every order - the 200x Cetrine deal for $19.99 is exactly the same stock and includes envelope post. Nothing fishy here.
