That's what's stopping me from buying!
Sadly, not everyone is in a position to be able to wait. I'll live with my 3600x for a while longer …

I keep hovering over a 5600x to upgrade my 3600. But I really don't want to upgrade 7 year old tech.

I went from 2700x to 5600 to 5700x3d
I think this is the end of the road for AM4. I'm HODLing until RAM gets cheaper. Also honestly, at 4k, I doubt a CPU upgrade will make a meaningful difference.
@Brotality: I ran bottleneck calcs for my 11400f when I bought 9060xt 16gb. Negligible bottleneck at 1080p, couple percent at 2k and 4k.
Unless you're running an old GPU CPU upgrade won't do anything for you gaming wise.

@Brotality: I went from 2700x to 5700x and wish I went a little bit extra to the x3d.
The 5700x upgrade was like night and day for balders gate.

I went from 3700X to 5600 and the system was quite snappy as the single threaded perfomance was higher. Going to 5700X3D or 5800X3D would be far better experience over the 3600 you have - especially if you game.
I then upgraded the to 7800X3D and did not exprience the same uplift as 3700X to 5600. It was definitely faster but apps were already opening at decent speeds on the 5600. Just my observations.
You can see the single threaded ratings of all these 3 CPUs

Apparently AMA are releasing the 5800x3d , depending on price this may be worth holding out for .

Hahaha great minds think alike! I posted about this about 10 secs after you.

You spelt AMD correctly :)

Apparently AMD is bringing back the 5800X3D as a "10th Anniversary Edition."
So, whilst hope for us on 3600's, I reckon it'll be a limited run at a much higher price point. I'm more curious about any potential 5700X3D or 5600X3D from the rejects, maybe grab one of those for cheaper if they appear?

Have you seen the price in 5800X3D ? LOL they are north of $700 or so these days even on Ali Express right now. One of two things will happen - they will re-launch over priced by AMD, or they will sell out faster than a RTX 5090 at launch and then they will also be resold overpriced. :)

Quick thoughts on this v/s 7800x3D?
Running a few AI models will be primary use case. Gaming is only CS Go and AoE DE lol.

I have the 9600X and have no issue with it.
Gaming:
AoE2
WoW
Diablo 4
CS 2
RDR2I've tried creating AI generated images and videos and found no issue there either. But they were not very complex ones.
9600X is paired with 32GB of RAM and a 4070Ti Super

Nice one!

cpu shortage incoming. get it while you can

Will this be any cheaper before EOFY?

My crystal ball tells me the following: "Ask AI!"
Damn … that's harsh …

If only I had Ram
