As a male, this was well worth the money for our little one. If you have the bank to spare, go for this.

im a dad and these pumps are elite

Dunno if the code would work on the S2, but the S1 is overpriced paying for just a battery. Surely we all have enough INUI power banks now, just need the DC PD adaptor thing and you're set.
Not that we ever needed it to be particularly portable anyway.
Was worth it for my missus. She didn't like sitting close to the power socket and pump and wants to move about and do other chores. Don't think she is techy enough or want to add powerbank with a questionable adapter just to save a few dollars.

IMO smarter move is to get the portable unit (spectra 9) if you are after battery. It's not as powerful, but once supply is coming in the 9 is fine.
Another option is rental if you're not planning to pump long term.
We rented an S2 then bought a 9 for portability once supply was in.
I'd disagree with this pretty hard tbh. Wife tried both the S9 and the S1 and found it's quite a significant jump in pump performance and time efficiency. The S9 is ok but not really in the same league as the S1 as a main pump.
The S1 is the GOAT for a reason.

@WowBargain: I would agree if wife doesn't plan to leave the house much and doesn't work or has a low supply issue, and plans to pump for a long time.
Otherwise the 9 is just more versatile and still does the job, just a little slower.
As I said, we used an S2 and it was great at first, but what's the point of having a battery operated pump that's stuck at home beyond the first couple of weeks? And at that point, why buy it outright at all when there are midwives or LCs that rent them out?Other benefit of renting from a midwife/LC is you can get properly sized cups, which can be hard to measure/guess oneself.
I suppose if someone is flush with cash they can just buy both, get the battery for the home unit, and the portable, w/e, but then it's not a discussion on bargains.

One thing to also note is that spectra 9 doesn't empty as well as it is not as powerful. For mothers that may have issues with supply or just have a bit extra. It can reduce future supply.

Don't think she is techy enough
Not your job? ;)
I put some extra 12V DC adaptors around the house, 3d printed some bottle holder adapters, and got the powerbank stuff ready though ultimately she never used it lol.
Could buy more than enough INUI 45W power banks with the difference hehe

Uncultured people downvoting a movie reference is pathetic

edit You can milk anything with nipples
Sickens me, really.

lol Im gonna have to watch it again now

@Stockyhome: Might have a Ben Stiller marathon with the kids after introducing them to Tropic Thunder.

Yeah.
Ya mum is pretty aggressive about that

I recently had a baby who has become too lazy to be breastfed after being bottlefed for a couple of days after birth. I bought my wife the kmart anko wearable pump and then the momcozy s9 pro from amazon. Both seem to work but the output is not ideal (30ml max per session). Curious to know if these will be an improvement, especially with re to the output.

It's very individual to each person. A better pump on its own may help, but there's a lot behind milk supply that could be causing challenges, especially if bubs isn't doing his bit too maintain it.
At a minimum I'd be reaching out to the ABA for support, but more beneficial would be finding a lactational consultant who can help your wife and you reality understand what is going on and what might help. Techniques like power of pumping, how to use the various modes etc can be helpful in establishing a better supply

I had the Spectra and was getting at least 100ml per session. Remember it’s based on demand and supply - the more often you pump, the more you will get.

This is the advice you need, if you're exclusively pumping and bub isn't nursing anymore. I struggled with supply for months, I tried everything, the doctors gave me medication, in the end nothing worked. Then I put in one last ditch effort and went to 10 pumps a day. It was insanely time consuming but it worked. I went from 30mL to 100mL. You need to increase the demand. I had a lazy bub too, he would stop after one let down. My S2 was more reliable, I just had to pump more. I could then go down in frequency without the supply dropping to what it was before. I really recommend the exclusively pumping website. I also found lactation consultants useless but that's just me.
And perhaps more importantly if you have tried everything please let your wife know there is nothing wrong with combination feeding. For the sake of her mental health, it's perfectly healthy to use formula, it doesn't need to be only breastmilk. Fed is best.

We have the S2 and a slightly different momcozy
The Spectra definitely gave higher output. But the momcozy was far more convenient for when my wife as busy or if we were in the car.
Looking back, we should have bought the S1 but we had no idea at the time

The sound of this running at 2am is strongly etched into my memory….my wife started off with a cheapie, then bought this…should've bought this from the start.
These have decent resale too for the second hand market! Well worth it

Indeed just resold 1 with all accessories in great condition for 190

Its been months since my wife last used hers, and I can still hear it

Where do you resell?
I have one in a box somewhere. Last I looked they couldn’t be sold on facebook marketplace.

Homelander approves this bargain.

For $50 cheaper, my wife used the Medela Swing Maxi Hands-Free $250
This hung around her neck and looks to be smaller and easier than the spectra. Couldnt recommended this highly enough. It meant she could just continue doing whatever she wanted around the house whilst pumping.

Its a different league of pumps, especially for women who are struggling to express. The Spectras give similar performance to the hospital Medelas. The portable units are great for those who have fewer issues expressing

Interesting as we found the medela outperformed a spectra we tried from a friend. My wife was getting 200mL on each side each pumping session (of course completely dependent on supply) but maybe it was just the time period we tried each things changed.

If she's getting 200mL from each side, she's certainly not struggling to express.
Spectra S1/2 and hospital Medelas (and other hospital grade pumps) stimulate the breast more to help those who struggle.

The Spectras give similar performance to the hospital Medelas.
Commonly reported that the spectra s1/s2 perform better than the hospital medelas. Inertia and certification are the main reasons medelas are still used.

We have a second hand one wanting to sell but FB keeps taking it down. Maybe because contains "breast". Quite annoying
BTW, they're great machines

List it in your local kids buy & sell groups.

There's a BFing buy and sell group you can post to instead

Thankyou!

if you are based in Sydney I might buy it off you since was just looking for pumps as momcozy m5 isnt doing great output compared to hospital medela my wife using.

Newcastle sorry

Can I buy this if I don't have kids?

I guess it would make a great present to someone who needs it and can't afford it.

Wife just bought one of these new from eBay for $220. highly recommend going for the S1 battery option as you can walk around the home whilst extracting breast milk, it's lightweight.
Great device, works really well and regarded as the best in market

Just my two cents about breast pumps. We bought ours second hand. Fully sanitised it, of course. We were only going to use it for less than 12 months anyway. Just something I thought might be worth sharing.

Some input from a dad, who's wife has used this for multiple births and struggled to express at first for every birth:
Accessories are very helpful, and this Essentials pack looks the goods. When you only have 1 set of breast shields/valves/etc, it SUCKS having to clean them in the middle of the night repeatedly.
Get the nipple sized properly so you can buy the proper sized breast shield. Chafing SUCKS
Get some breast cream stuff to help with any chafing
Maymom on Amazon makes some good accessories that are compatible with the Spectra range
Make sure you have tons of spare bottles. Consider freezer storage bags too if you have enough EBM
Automated sterilisers are worth it
Make sure you help your partner with cleaning/sterilising. It's tedious and repetitive and there's so much of itMost importantly, look after your partner's mental health and your own, especially if she is struggling to express. They will hear of other mums having no trouble expressing, and start to ask questions about their own inability. The midwife mafia is especially brutal about womens inability to express-my wife was berated in the middle of the night in the hospital about EVERYTHING she was doing wrong when trying to BF our 1st child. Repeated middle of the night wakeups really wears on their mental state too, in addition to the hormones.

Is this Homerlander approved?

I'm actually selling one of these used if anyone wants it. Great pump. Difficult to sell on Marketplace. Lots of accessories, based in Adelaide but happy to post.

I think many people unfamiliar with them assume it's unhygienic to get second hand, they don't realize they just need a new accessories pack.

I wonder if they don't realise the ones hired out by hospitals are therefore equally as bad then.
But it's the same with all our baby stuff, including lots of reusable nappies, prams, bottles, clothes and cots. People buy new which seems crazy as they're only using things for a very short time. It seems dumb to buy new. You'd think at least grandparents might buy a second hand cot but nope, nothing. Boori too.

I came here to recommend buying secondhand, we got a used S1 for a steal, and it is amazing compared to our older pump

Can confirm this works well in bed.

I have a S2 pump that I wish to sell.
It's in good working condition and everything has been cleaned and sterilized.
Item is located in the Macquarie Park area in Sydney.
Please send me a PM if you're interested.
Amazing to build milk supply on top of all the other things to do as part of breastfeeding, if you need a pump and assistance.

Elvis Costello comes to mind
