I am purchasing the trip.com Trip Tuesday $29 Syd-Mel at 2pm sharp, checkout 2:01, then all sold out and price change jump to $107. Anyone got tips and tricks on how to buy them successfully?

Agree with @silverham - I tried a promo code recently. I think it was $30 off domestic flights. Tried to book J class return ADL-PER as a Black Diamond member. Code didn't work. Booked anyway but wont be bothering to try again for the App codes.
I usually don't bother with big trip promotions, I only use it for regular flights and hotel. App codes are always sold out or advertised cost is for an obscure route so abit deceiving personally.
