What does the new packaging look like? They have always had 2 types of lasagna packaging with different prices. Same with coles.

$2 used to be the normal price for these until covid inflation kicked in.

    Made with 40 grams (10% x 400g) of 100% Australian Beef

    • +18

      Less than one hoof worth.

      • +10

        About half a sphincter iirc

        • +5

Your butcher is giving you the shit end of the stick

    • It could use a lot more than that. Wish it had 40g of protein, would be better.

    • thanks the box is so misleading

  • -2

Just ordered 15 of them, lets see what the substitute them with.

    • +2

What if they give you all 15 of them?

      • +1

The old Scomo here will enjoy his diarrhoea.

    • Mine was substituted with the new non-clearance version.

  • +15

This is the cheap one and its gone downhill. I told woolies its inedible - flour, water, 8 teaspoons of beef and a dusting of cheese. Tastes like glue.

The more expensive $4.20 one is still OK.

    • +13

Everything has been pretty much universally enshittified, and that was before the current crisis, cant image how much worse everything is going to get.

Actual decent percents of meat or cheese, or any quality ingredients even in name brand or pricier products is rare now.

      • +18

I used to work for the company that made these private label Lasagnes. It was awful, we'd have amazing chefs who would take such pride and make such beautiful food, and the Colesworth Reps would come in and be like "it tastes nice, but we need it to be 50% cheaper".. so all the meat would be replaced with textured soy protein and we'd source cheap cheese and so on and so on.

I've never understood the race to the bottom, in all industries.

Surely it makes more sense for your brand to put out a decent/good product for a fair price, than put out a shit product for the cheapest price?

At some point, all the race to the bottom does is wipe out brand trust.

Maybe that's my privilege showing though.

@BradH13: Business is cut-throat. Even if you hold ypur ground, someone else is trying to steal your margin. You have competition and headwinds coming from all sides. The tip to to trying to stay solvent and not run out of money.

    • +3

This was greasy flour glue over a decade ago, can't imagine it's improved since.

If your standards are low, and you're just hoping for a cheap basic crappy lasagne, you will still be bitterly disappointed.

    • +2

the aldi one used to be super tasty in spite of being full of fat but they've got a new supplier (or they changed the recipe) and the new one really is inedible

      • Yes. Had 2 Aldi ones in recent months. Can tell they are not the same.

        • +1

you were braver than me, going back for another go

      • Yeah massive disappointment, loved the old ones, now they taste like tomato sauce on pasta sheets, horrendous ….

    • +2

Tried the 2$ one from woolies a few months ago, can confirm it is crap.

    • +1

Cant agree anymore. These taste horrible and I personally wont buy them even at $2

    • "Tastes like glue"

      That'll be the horse

    • Lol cry me a river it's $2 what do U expect?

  • +7

Oh so you can still do dinner for $10, you just have to have zero nutrition or enjoyment standards..

    • I wouldnt call this zero nutrition. $2 for >20g of protein is pretty good value.

      • +2

        For 500+ calories?

        • +1

          That not good?

          • @mrvaluepack: No, 536 of your daily calories spent on a meal containing 23 grams of fat (11 saturated), less than 4 grams of fiber and only 21 grams of protein is not good.

          • @mrvaluepack: No, not at all. For 20g of protein you dont want that high in kilojoules.

            • @PVA: Whats the ideal ratio then?

              • @mrvaluepack: Ive read a quick guide is times by 10.
                20 protein 200 calories.

      • You are better off with "Vetta Smart Protein Pasta". 25% protein, just add pasta sauce.

  • +6

Sounds like the most nutritious and tasty part of that is the box it comes in.

  • +1

Legally it's 'food'. But one day they'll legally have to identify it as a UPF - industrially built stuff with barely recognisable amounts of actual food like beef, cheeses, vegetables.

  • +3

I get where people are coming from, but purely on protein-per-dollar, 21g for $2 is solid. Yeah the calories are wild and the flavour is probably “budget”, but you can pay more for stuff that’s nutritionally worse.

  • Those reviews are from ozBunchees - cant be trusted.

  • +2

    Only $2!

    …plus another $13.60 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/956442

    With a shitload of salt….

I'd avoid eating this kind of overly processed junk.

Buy real ingredients if you can.

  • home brand style lasagna from coles/woolies are always top value imo, have been for years

  • I like the $4.20 Chilli con carne one.

  • Who reviews Lasagna sheets?

  • +3

I bought this the other day as I regularly get the $3 Coles one for work

This was just sludge, incredibly bad, the Coles ones are actually decent for what they are

  • +3

This lasagna is amazing! you can even drink it through a straw!

  • +5

    I'd rather eat the box

  • +3

I feel sad just thinking about eating this

    • LMAO

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a good microwave lasagne?

  • Don't think i'd go anywhwere near this - soz - a good test…check with the faithful hound prior

  • +1

The box it self screams 'your're poor'

    • +1

The box itself screams "You're poor!". Now write it out a hundred times!

  • I don't get this stuff.
I'd you are working full time, you can afford much better.
And if not, you can make way better for the same cost.

    • There is no way you're making decent lasagna at this price.

      • yeh and if you're into microwave food you're unlikely to be in a position to whip up anything much from ingredients imo

i eat a fair bit of micro meals, those super nature bowls're really good and ok value when on special

  • What's the best supermarket Lasagne? I like Pasta Master but it needs more bechamel sauce.

Wish Findus was still around. Don't care if I was eating horse meat it tasted great.

    • I tried the aldi one last month. Pretty good

    • +1

Mamma Rosa's are excellent. They're more Italian-authentic than any other frozen lasagne I've ever tried, and my local independent has them at $3.68/400g every day. Also do a 2.1kg for $16.28.

      https://058.drakes.com.au/search?q=Mamma%20Rosas

That being said, I don't think you'll back it because I don't think they have any bechamel in them. It's lasagne sheets, actually meaty meat sauce, and real mozzarella topping.

  • -2

Bizarrely negative comments. Perfectly acceptable value at full price, it's a $4 frozen microwave meal. At $2 a pop I'll be taking as many as my freezer can fit.

    • have y tried one before or y just stocking on faith?

    • I'd recommend giving it a miss, its sludge, probably the reason its a clearance item

Go the Coles Yellow boxed ones for a buck more

      • I second Coles yellow box lasagna to

  • Will wait for ol Grego to review it before I risk dropping $2 on this

  • I miss the IGA ones from years back in the yellow container, molten liquid after heating it up in the microwave, hard to open but once inside, so delicious. Pretty sure they were 750 grams as well, perfect bachelor meal.

  • Literally I was next to another lady at self check out yesterday afternoon, she was asking the Woolworths check out helper, and said wrong price scanned, Woolworths helper explain this is the new version, she seemed disappointed anyway the rest is history. Now I know what that fuss was about. Oh wait, if I want to buy the $2 version, I can't go to that Woolworths, need to find another one.

This is a good reason to put money into your super. Imagine hitting 80 years old, its time to retire.. and you can only afford this.

    • Retiring at 80, the Australian dream

These lasagnes are good. I done take them camping, scoop the guts out wrap in foil and put next to the coals and they fill me up. Cos they're well seasoned, you can stick them in your backpack and leave the exky at home.
I have served it up to camping mates and they say they have never eaten anything like it before. Which is a big compliment.

  • gunna order 1 online for the lore

Found some left at my local. But then I found the equivalent at Coles is only $1.55!
