Miele Stick Vacuum Cleaner Dead 6 Months after Purchase - Minor or Major Problem?

Another one of these self validation polls, I’ve already made up my mind

Background: Miele Duoflex HX1 Total Care purchased last year for $549 from TGG

3 days short of 6 months from purchase, it doesn’t work. Won’t charge, no lights at all.

I take it in to the store, thinking no drama, they’ll whack a new battery in, problem solved. I’ll be sucking filth off the floor again in a few days.

After exactly 4 weeks it’s finally ready to pick up. Not sure why slapping a battery in took a month, I was under the impression it was a relatively minor thing to fix.

Take it home; it still won’t charge. The replacement battery is missing the metal contacts that it needs for the wall cradle.

Uncertain if Temu battery or Miele battery.

I returned it to the store today.

Computer says no to automatic refund, guy said he needs RA from Miele to authorise a refund.

I politely explained that I’m not concerned with what Miele say, I bought it from TGG, he needs to sort that out between Miele and TGG, it’s none of my business.

Made my point that a Miele vacuum failing to turn on or charge in 6 months was doubtful to be a minor problem, but I ran with it, see where it goes. After all, if they could put a new battery in it and have it back in a few days, I’d be happy. I went on to say that after a month, all it got me was a faulty vacuum that won’t charge after they tried to repair it once.

Is a refund appropriate?

    Refund.

Incredibly patient of you to give them 4 weeks already. I wouldn't have been so patient.

Plot thickens, one of the guys mis represented himself as the store manager and claimed that alternate remedies are not available. He said that it’s not procedure, I shouldn’t have been told over the phone that they may be available - in direct contradiction of their own website and ACL.

He wasn’t the store manager, anyway he’s been name dropped in a case with corporate. Sorry, wait no I’m not sorry Cameron if they make you sit through some boring re training about being honest and your obligations under ACL.

    Is a refund appropriate?

Ordinarily, I believe you would be expected to give them another shot at a repair.

However, if it took them a month to swap out a battery => fk em. I say you've done enough in this situation and they need to provide you with a replace or refund (still their choice though as what you are describing sounds like a minor fault. Once it is classified as a major fault, then you would usually get to choose your remedy (conditions apply).

    Finally got a refund today.

I was able to talk to someone other than the guys I’d previously dealt with, and it was approved in moments.

  • You should have contacted Miele yourself.

  • Call Miele direct.

  • With JB when I had a faulty item they didn't need to wait for the manufacturer. They just quickly unboxed it, took my word for it and refunded on the spot.

    • Exactly, I’ve been through this process a good number of times with various major retailers, all I can say is TGG really aren’t the good guys here.

    Temu is way better

Normally i'm very pro-consumer-rights, but you bought a stick vacuum, so you deserve a shitty product OP, sorry.

To be fair, it is better than my C3 bagged in various scenarios, I feel like you have some unresolved trauma around stick vacuum cleaners, not sure how we can help with that.

Funny story, a friends wife wanted a dyson stick vacuum, he did "research" and chose the Miele bagged vacuum, now she refuses to vacuum and he has to do it.
He regrets the Miele purchase now.

        • Sounds like a faulty wife, he should shop around for a better model.

      • I don't think the problem is the stick in the vacuum…
