Hi all,
In the final stages of building our new house. POE cabling has already been run to the five locations on the floorplan; unable to change any of that now so no point discussing locations.
Just need to finalise the choice of which camera to put where. All mounting locations for cameras are under the eave, so top mounting, probably not ideal for bullets?
• 1 looks down the driveway and across the front of house - thinking RLC-1240A here?
• 2 sits above the glass sliding door on side of garage that will also face the side gate. Thinking CX820 here
• 3 sits above the glass sliding door of the laundry and will look down side of house. Also thinking CX820 here
• 4 looks out to the backyard. Fairly central location so a 180 camera view would be ideal here. Thinking duo 3V here.
• 5 is the doorbell, so poe doorbell there easy done.
Open to suggestions if there is a better option for any location, thanks!
I have bought and tried a number of different (all PoE) Reolink Cameras, before I bought (all the rest) what I thought suited each location best. First, and with no affiliation, look up "LifeHackster" on youtube. He tests all sorts of cameras, inc all Reolink models. They are all tested night and day, in the same conditions, with the same test regime, and he sometimes compares different models at the same time for comparison. It is very helpful and points out some weak spots on some of the cameras as other in this post have mentioned. That being said, I settled on the 1240A's for a lot of places. Good picture clarity, and 145 deg horizontal FOV, with decent vertical FOV covers a lot of ground. I also have a couple of Duo 3V's and the picture quality is amazing, as is the 180 deg horizontal FOV, however, the vertical FOV is quite narrow, and you have to choose how to position it and adjust the angle of the lenses to get the best vertical FOV for your situation. I also have a few Trackmix PoE's. I love these cameras. Once you play with the software a bit to dial it in for your situation, the detection and tracking performance is very cool for pet, human, and vehicles. The twin cameras with one at 6x zoom and one wide is great for looking down driveways or similar, but it is a bit larger than the vandal proof domes. If you don't need Pan/tilt, an 843a with 5x zoom may work for you. Do the research, know what you want/need/expect to see at each location, and spend some time watching the camera tests. It helps.
