Unleaded 91 for $1.36 Per Liter

How I managed to re-fuel my car for less than $1.5 per liter? Unleaded 91

I am happy to share this with anyone, hope it help, especially in this economy.

Just scroll if you don't care or drive an EV. (I love EV but cannot afford it for now).

I am driving 2008 Toyota so I have 4 cents from Toyota (I remembered it used to be 8 cents?). I shopped at Woolworths (or Coles if it is cheaper for certain things I want, or both). Then I have extra 4 cents from Woolworths.

Thats 8 cents. Now let's look at other offers,

Everyday Rewards gives me an offer "Refuel your car at Ampol Foodary, min spend $50.00 and we will you 1000 points"
Shopback has 6.5% gift card for Ampol Cash GC (Updated rate now is 6% if you have Westpac Card, Fee free otherwise 2%)
CBA gives me an offer, $5 rebates when you spend $50 at Ampol Foodary.

Check the price around you and see the price range. The cheapest ULD 91 within 10 kms is 1.709 and my local Ampol Foodary is 1.759 (I wont be driving more than 10 kms for slightly cheaper fuel, and my time worths more than that).

Now the game ramps up,

I refuel at my local Ampol Foodary over the weekends and spend $55.707 for 31.67 liter.

$1.759 - $0.08 per liter = $1.679

$1.679 * 31.67 = $53.17

$53.17 - $5 from CBA = $48.17

For 1000 points from Woolworths you get $5 off (It could worth more if you fly business with QF or partner airlines..Let's talk about instant cash off at supermarket)

$48.17 - $5 = $43.17

Now $43.17 / 31.67 liters = $1.36 per liter /

No Extra Hassle as things already comes in handy for me, Scan Toyota QR code then scan EverydayRewards Card and tap CBA card /

You dont have to follow exact my way but there are plenty of deals around, just spend a bit of time and do a bit of research. The Oz team also very helpful if you go through the comments of each deal. For examples, I dont bank with NAB but I knew they have a goodies stuff and one of the good deal was $10 cashback if you spend $40 at woolies? (If I am not remember it wrong).

P/s: If you have better way, please do share.
I am in Melbourne - Not sure if this information helps.

Makes sense that OP is in America with those prices

      • Grok is American.

        • -2

OP is living in Melbourne. Victorians seem to be getting the rough end of the pineapple from all directions - gotta cut em some slack for having to deal with all that shenanigans.

World class machete bins and they're still getting multiple machete attacks every week.

1000 points is CASH. You can't just use 1000 points to do your calculation. i.e. If I redeem 10000 points (i.e $50 off), it doesn't mean my petrol is $0.

    • You may have your own calculation. But as 1000 pts / $5 off I can offset my grocery at woolies.

      • +2

Excactly, you are just using your own money to reduce the payment. This doesn't make the fuel cheaper as you can use more points to deduct even more money from your payment. For example, you offset your $5 grocery with 1000 points , it doesn't mean grocery is $0 and call it a deal.

        • +1

This is the last comment I reply to you here. As I mentioned above, you can have your own calculation. But this is mine, 1000 points can offset $5 from my grocery (minimum redeem is 2000/$10).

When I shop at woolies, the bill is $100. I only pay 90 in cash, $10 in points that I saved/earned from the fuel offer. Then I have $10 of cash in my pocket because the grocery worths $100.

Spending $50 at Ampol Foodary just negated any savings here

    • Including fuel..

      • Oh my bad, if that's the case it makes sense, well done

        • +1

Haha never buy anything except fuel and a cup of coffee from any servo. They are bloody ripped off

    Good lord.

You dont think this is a relevant post on a cost saving website?…..

      • i want a one click saving, not big process.

        • the forum section of the site is an interesting choice for that stance

          • @Bidet Mate: why? proper deals are posted in the deals section

You got fuel for $1.52 / litre. You can't count the $5 off for 1000 pts as they can be used elsewhere.

    • +11

When you spell it liter, you can do anything that you want to set your mind to.

      • When I grow up, I wanna be like OP.

      • -4

Grow up in multi-culture, I sometimes say vacation instead of holiday. Liter is also litre in us spelling. Your life stuck in one place doesnt mean it is wrong. Kupamanduka

        • Can I have a cuppa, man ducky?

    • You may have your own calculation. But as 1000 pts / $5 off I can offset my grocery at woolies (I know it minimum 2000 per $10)..

  • +2

you can't stack Toyota 4c and Woolies 4c together

if you use 4c toyota at Ampol Foodary and scan woolies card you can collect everyday reward points but it won't apply the 4c woolies shopping voucher

  • +1

How do you get that 4cent from Toyota?

    • +4

Buy a Toyota and use their app.

I want to know how OP is getting $5 off with 1000 points from woolies. It's $10 for 2000 points but I've never seen a way to claim less than $10

      • +2

I want to know how OP is getting $5 off with 1000 points from woolies.

The OP is simply converting the points into dollars for calculation purposes.

        • It doesn't work that way though. You can't claim just $5 worth of points and you also can't use those reward dollars on fuel.

I also don't know how they got 6% shopback for westpac cards and also $5 from using a CBA card.

          • +1

@apsilon: Just a way to think about it I suppose. You're being given $5 of value (in Woolies points) when you buy fuel. For me, Woolies rewards points are as good as cash as I only shop at Woolies. So if I buy fuel, I view the points as $5 in my pocket. Sure I might not have 2000 points that same day to get the $10 off, but I will at some point, and buying fuel has contributed half the required points.

I don't think OP is saying 6% from Shopback / Westpack gift cards AND $5 from CBA card. In their math example they only reference the discount from the CBA card. I suppose if you had a Westpac card instead, then the shopback option would yield you a similar discount?

            • @vorsprung: Yeah I get that but claiming that's a $5 fuel discount when you neither have it in your pocket nor can actually use it on fuel is politician style accounting.

            • @vorsprung: Thanks for details explanation.. I just do not bother to explain too much that simple math.

          • @apsilon:

It doesn't work that way though. You can't claim just $5 worth of points and you

            You are overthinking it.
No one is denying that if you only have 1000 points sitting in your EDR account you cannot redeem it. Most folks continue their shopping and eventually gain the remaining points for the $10 off.

also can't use those reward dollars on fuel.

So what!? They can use the value gained as a discount on their essential grocery purchases in the future.
Seriously, are you saying the 1000 points gained is completely worthless?

I also don't know how they got 6% shopback for westpac cards and also $5 from using a CBA card.

            Maybe re-read OP's post.

      • I did and it won't work for grey imports. It's only for the inferior, locally delivered models.

      • -3

        or

Not buy a Toyota and use their app.

    • If you dont have an inferior Toyota, stack with NRMA discount https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/868324

You can stack NRMA 4c off with the rewards éc

    • How do I link it? or need to scan another code?

      • +1

I did it the other day. You just activate in the NRMA app and scan the barcode at the counter
