Loved this game on PC, at this price it's a no brainer.

Shame it never released on switch.

    • But it was on the 3DS. I would have bought it on the Switch in a heartbeat. My favorite SF game ever.

I'm getting this for PS. Now I just need to get it on the Xbox.

      • I was gifted it on 3DS way back in the day, but I would like to play it on the TV with the kids.

Played SF 2 to death in the 90s, I skipped SF III (must have blinked and missed it at Time Zone ? lol), briefly played Alpha 1 - 3. But I went several years without playing any SF titles at all. SF IV released and I just had to have it. Got it on the 360 and PS3 + PC soon after. I was heavily addicted to it, then Super and the Arcade edition… Oni was a god :D, mained that character online. I stuck around with Ultra Street Fighter IV, but sadly I eventually moved on….. but so many years and awesome memories from SF IV in general.

Your story is almost identical to mine! SF2 in 90's arcades/SNES/mame etc. then SF IV on 360. Also still have have the madcatz sfIV anniversary fight stick for 360/PC.

I always preferred using the old school Aussie MCA joysticks over the popular "springy" sanwa ones. I could do combo/chains much more consistently on MCA due to growing up with them in the arcades.

I also skipped all the SF3's and didn't bother with V or VI.

These days, I have an 80's LAI lowboy cabinet with original CRT and MCA stick/buttons with some arcade PCBs (mortal kombat 1, Wonderboy in monster land) and also a jamma to raspberry pi interface to run mame on it.

Could crap on all day about my SF2 history. Played it at my local video shops, time zones and the milkbar on my street had a CE machine. I didnt get good at it until I had the Mega Drive version (justified the $60 purchase by playing it xxx times - thus money not spent at the arcade).

I was crap with the arcade sticks, very much a dpad baby. I got an arcade stick with my SFIV purchase in an attempt to get good… I improved but mostly with the characters like E.Honda, Blanka, Zangief (360 movements).

When SF V launched I was excited….picked it up a week after launch, played it for 4 hours (felt too slow to me) before shelving it lol. I did go back to it over the COVID period. It was cheap on Steam. I also repurchased it digitally on the Playstation (wanted all characters - was cheaper buying the best version at the time… instead of the dlc separately).

I did get SF 6 at launch, but wasnt a fan of the ghetto street vibe…. that said I gave it a good run of 80 hours.

Very similar story here too. I've been bashing the Madcatz SE stick to death since 2009 and it's still going strong.

Currently have LAI lowboy with Double Dragon and a larger SF2 cabinet with WW and CE PCBs. Would love a MK1 though! I have MCA controls in the cabinets for the nostalgia too but I have to admit the Sanwas are better for competition.

  • I bought super for like 5pound like a UK website 2nd hand back in the day, got so much value from that sub $20 game.

Is this worth rebuying if you have it on ps3 already?

    • +3

Yes bigger player base online , better graphics 1080p instead of PS3 720p , forward compatible with ps5 and maybe even ps6

  • Will this download and work on ps5

This game used to be free for PS Plus subscribers. Then (like many other games) they revoked free access for subscribers.

It’s a good game and def worth the $6. But I struggle with paying for something that I was previously playing for free.

It was not free as you had to pay a PS Plus fee to be able to access. Yeah but you were only renting out access to the game for a monthly fee, not free. The only way you got to play for free is if Sony gave you a free PS Plus membership. No money needing to be handed over just to play the game.

You never owned a license for this game so you owned nothing. This is same as saying i refuse to buy a movie that's on sale which i used to rent just because i got to watch it. You still don't own the movie while renting so you own nothing. What a confused mindset.

You have to pay money for PS Plus to play the game on PS Plus so it's never free. It's essentially a game rental as long as you keep paying money for the rental.

You actually have said the truth

Free for PS Plus subscribers. My statement is 100% correct. Don't try and waffle on by telling me I paid for the game as part of my subscription. My subscription price is the same price, whether they give me that game or not. I will alway pay for subscription because I want to play multiplayer online. So the fact that I can download extra games is just a bonus that I get for FREE.

And in fact if you want to get technical, you don’t own ANY digital game that you pay for. You don’t “own the license” as you state, just because you paid $6 for a digital copy. Read the T&Cs. Sony can remove a game from the store at any time, which means that if you haven’t already downloaded it, then too bad. You will never get to play the game that you paid for.

You only ever truly own a game that you can hold in your hands.

what is the state of street fighter these days? I did play og 4 when it came out on ps3 then lost interest after getting back into tekken 5/6

and also why does tekken and sf have like 50 million different variations now…i just want to button mash with ryu ffs

    • +1

4 was amazing, 5 was pretty good, 6 is probably my least favourite street fighter of all time.

      • I hate how fighting games now are just a cash grab
I really want to get back into tekken as well but fkkkkkkkk micro transaction shit

        • +1

          fwiw 4>6>daylight>5 for me

6 is heaps of fun, great netcode, lots of players, come on why not try today?

          • @191919: I didn't like the setting and (while I know you can change the control scheme to suit) I hated the "easy mode" configuration. Even Tekken 8 dumbed things down (but then I've only ever liked Tekken 1-3 and the original Tekken Tag Tournament).
