very aesthetic

OzBargain is the new Tumblr (^.^)

I still miss the old Tumblr :/

60c worth of farts priceless for everything else there is master card

soak the beans in water overnight and rinse them away after. No more gas.
Source: lived in South America, this is legit

but i like farting in the presence of my GF the shits and giggles are priceless :D

Isn't that just for dried beans?

@kiitos: nah… all beans, you just need to remove the thing that makes you gassy. I'd pretend I know what it's called without googling but I'm tired boss lol

Why spending $6m on a coastal house if you can get coastal living for just $0.60

dammit, I live inland 😏

Beans, Beans, the Musical Fruit

6.8% protein, do you lift bro?

Both black and red kidney beans generally are estimated to have 9 grams per 100, and Pinto beans have 5 grams. That 6.8g in this mix is likely the Pinto beans bringing the average down.

He may take another form!

You put the 'fun' in fundamentalist dogma.

Marge, you're the leader? You don't look anything like the beans!

Knock him out, Reverent!

Waiting for Aussie style beans

They're called "baked beans". ;p
P.S. Google Margo Robbie bogan nachos. You won't be sorry.

Holy shit you’re right! I’m gonna have to try that.

Hey, that's exactly how I make them. But, I just call them Nachos.

nice weight

It feels like it has been a while since I've seen a Woolworths brand staple food get discounted like this. Time to stock up!

Seen on Uber Eats canned stuff was heavily discounted, way cheaper than in store. Maybe Woolworths just had too many cans.

How bout this?
Three. Many. Cans.

5*
The healthstars system is highly polarised and just all over the place. Not particularly this product, we all know beans are highly nutritious, it's about other products on the market with high sodium for instance, still got 5 stars.

Out of all the examples you could’ve used I don't think high sodium was the best. Most people process it fine

https://www.heart.org/en/news/2021/05/26/how-much-harm-can-a…
The wider research suggests otherwise, while i also know many people in my surroundings suffering from high sodium intake.

Some people who don't have high blood pressure can eat salt without seeing their blood pressure increase
As said in your link, salt is not a universally bad thing

Must be your area i actually dont know anyone personally that are suffering from high sodium intake.
The sodium issue is deeply tied to age, culture, and social status. While the physiological impact of salt is universal, the reasons people consume it vary wildly across demographics.

The health star rating system is far from perfect but sometimes I think people misunderstand what information they're conveying.
Stars should only be compared between products of the same type, e.g. comparing 5 star cereal to 1 star cereal is helpful, but comparing 5 star cereal to 5 star beans is not as helpful.

Yep, and I think it's a failure in messaging that more people don't know this! I was surprised when I found out that's how it works, but now I know, it does make using the system less complicated.
Also interesting that it's a voluntary system, so any time I see a product is missing the rating I take it as a red flag and assume it's not even half a star!

I just read the food standards ministers are moving towards a mandatory Health Star Ratings system. This will stop the system from being exploited by selective use with higher rated products as a way of promotion or advertising.
The labelling can certainly still be improved with clearer definition of the HSR food categories. Educational posters in stores and online might be a good idea, too.
The algorithm to calculate the *s doesn't considered how processed a food is, or some ingredients such as artificial sugars.
It was designed to be easier than reading the Nutritional Info Panel with regards to people making healthier food choices. Good idea, especially for children. I think it missed the mark.

Yes this the fact, you're right. And that's why i said we all know beans are healthy

Pepsi max is 3 stars, must be healthy!

I know i drink to much Pepsi Max but i dont have any other vices so I'll keep buying.

Isn't the star rating system only rating that product within it's specific category?! So when Pepsi Max gets a 3 star rating, that's only compared to other soft drinks.

Chilli con carne weather is coming soon. Upvoted.

60% of the contents is beans, so 40% is basically water.

At 60c, that water is not as expensive as some bottled water

Salty water… fit for coastal living

so persistent !!

You don't want a can of beans with no water.

Not sure why I was negged. Some OzB members don't like facts haha.

I didn't neg you, but it's important to understand why things are the way they are before just casting doubt and aspersions.
You will not find a can of cooked beans without water in - water is required to cook them in the can.
So with that context, what is the purpose of telling people there's water in the can?

@WatchNerd: Please re-read my comment.
It's physically impossible to serve this product without ~40% water.
You obviously don't know that. Many readers wouldn't either.
So why point it out without context, if not to imply this product is somehow inferior or bad value?

@WatchNerd: You got me thinking - I assume the listed bean weight after cooking? Meaning it has already absorbed a lot of the water.

@Rick Sanchez: If the can is sealed when the beans are soaking up the water then the total weight after would be the same as the total weight before, no?

Maybe it was JV, for using their trademarked emboldening?

How else did you think beans were prepared for consumption?

The liquid is referred to as aquafaba and can be used as an egg replacement

I think that may only be for chickpeas?

Do you know the difference between a chickpea and a fava bean?
I wouldn't let a fava bean on my chest

Cheap!
Good for emergencies when you didn't plan your make and pre-soak your dried beans.

Not bad, get this and some rice = wrap and you basically have a GYG burrito.

Toooot!!

These make one of my fave BBQ side dishes…
I tin of these 1/2 drained.
1/2 a small onion, fine dice.
1/2 tsp pepper.
1/2 tsp salt.
1/2 cup white vinegar.
You can adjust salt, vinegar and pepper to your taste.Mix it all together and better if allowed to go cold in the fridge.
I'll make it to eat alone, but this pairs well with bbq meats on a hot day.

Yum. Super easy, too. You've inspired me!
Maybe add some diced red Capsicum if you're feeling fancy :)
Absolutely.
Spring onions work well and look good too.

"I tin of these 1/2 drained"
Are you saying a whole tin, half drained?
Or half a tin, drained?
Edit: also a half cup of vinegar is a lot…is that a typo?

Whole tin into a bowl, with half the liquid drained out and the remainder kept with the beans.
Yep, 1/2 cup of vinegar as it's meant to give you a bit of a punch in the face, but the salt and pepper, along with aroma and taste of the onion will match it.
Start with a 1/4 cup of vinegar if you are unsure. You can always add more, but not take away.As always, it's all a matter of taste.

Please rinse with water afterwards, that's hell on your teeth

@topherboi: "Yes, vinegar is hard on teeth because its high acidity (low pH) dissolves essential minerals, causing irreversible enamel erosion, tooth sensitivity, and increased decay risk. Regular, undiluted consumption can severely damage enamel, though moderate use with protective measures—like using a straw and rinsing with water—can minimize risks."
You're bathing your teeth with acid, and really grinding it in with salt.
A dash of vinegar in a recipe is one thing, but chewing a half cup of vinegar is crazy. Rinsing is a minimum.
(I'm sure it's tasty and I'm not trying to guilt anyone, just keep teeth in good nick)

Thanks OP, bought 2000

Not available at my Metro.

Not available in 2 out of the 4 big stores near me. Might be clearance of a deleted line.

You know the recession is here when beans enter the chat!

i swear these are on clearance

Reported to the mods for swearing.

;(

they have been for a few months now, but this price is "at an all time low"

Prices are down?

down down!

These are likely being cleared due to woolworths releasing it's new mexican brand and likely increasing prices of course. I think it's going to be called 'la mesita' which is woolworths for 'let's rip off Australians harder' .

What with the "coastal living" reference?

The flatulence will gently waft away on the sea breeze. no one will ever know

I saw a post on fb that these may have been mislabeled and are actually 4 bean mix inside, hence the clearance price..

As silly as this may sound, I don't think that would be possible - not the mislabeling, but the clearing out with the 3 bean label attached (if it contained 4 bean mix).
There is going to be someone out there with an allergy to the 4th bean, and that would result in all sorts of legal headaches.
Interested to hear when someone purchases a can and breaks it open to confirm.

I broke open a can and can confirm it's 3 bean mix. It's likely that woolies is swapping to le mesita branding and will increase prices.

I can confirm that I purchased in early April and they were DEFINITELY MISLABELLED and had 4 bean mix. As noted earlier, Mexican 3 bean (majority black beans) perfect for burritos. 4 bean mix with majority chickpea (plus kidney bean, Lima and borlotti), not so good.

Unlikely. 4 bean has borloti and lima beans. This has black beans

Regular price $1

Thanks mate, had no idea what the "Save $0.40" meant

Had anyone told ICE about all these Beans yet?

Reported to the mods for bad Dad joke.

yeah fair enough tbh

I like the following 4 bean mix:
Howvya, Wherevya, Whooza and Whyvya Bean
Also known as the Interrogation Mix

ozb community please hit me with your easiest chilli con carne recipe that I can use these with

I use 375g of pork mince (oddly specific but it’s what I have left over after making meatballs).
Brown the mince for 6-7 minutes in a cast iron pan on medium-high. Break it up but then leave it to ensure it’s browned underneath for maximum flavour.
Continue to cook and stir for 3-4 minutes, then add finely chopped onion. Cook for another 2 minutes on medium.
Add garlic and cook for a further minute.
Add spices (I use Old Elpaso Chili Con Carne spice mix, but whatever floats your boat). Stir in for a minute or so.
Add tomato passata and Worcestershire sauce, plus black pepper and salt to taste.
After five minutes simmering, add the three bean mix and continue to simmer for a further five minutes.
That’s it. Bobby dazzler.
