CamelCamelCamel.Free delivery on Amazon though - Plaion charging $50 for delivery which makes the overall cost significantly more expensive than Amazon
Fair. I wanted the Ultimate so had to get from their website.
I presume plaion take the full payment now and not at shipping date? Almost tempted with the ultimate given the cost of the games anyway. I just realised their pricing is in USD!
@Yummy: I just saw that little notice too on the website. If they use DHL then DHL will charge it. Other companies then maybe there is a chance of it slipping through
@Yummy: Pulled the trigger on the ultimate. Dont have any games and will cost a fortune to buy the old cartridges anyway. Wish I didnt see this post….
@Yummy: My pride and joy will still be the Sega Genesis and Megadrive (Jap) collection. I wouldnt have space for 151 neogeo carts!
@Yummy: what do you think about the cartridge found online where all 161 games in 1 cartridge ? will that work in this system ? will keep an eye on the reviews if that cartridge works with this. can't wait for all games to be released tbh or have the capacity to buy all of them.
@TouhiDX: will that work in this system
Wouldn't have a clue. Only time will tell. I'm after that too, if it works.
What's the difference between the two? Just the colour and the Metal Slug game?
Wireless controller and memory card.
White is a bundle that turns out to be cheaper by $18.00 for the same contents if you were to get a black one (at the time of this comment)
White 30th Anniversary bundle @ $499.00, you get:
1x console
1x controller
PLUS
1x memory card
1x game (Metal Slug) (limited edition white cartridge - only available through this bundle)
—
The black one @ $329.99, you get:
1x console
1x controller
—
If you were to buy the black one with the same contents as the white bundle, it would be:
1x console + 1x controller @329.99
PLUS
1x memory card @ 49.00
1x game (Metal Slug) @ 139.00
Total = $517.99
—
Difference between the white bundle and the equivalent for the black is: @499.99 - $517.99 = $18.00
—
It goes without saying that an extra arcade controller is also worth adding for a second player.
Arcade controller @169.99 or the pad @89.99.
(Pity that only a black pad is available. Perhaps a white one will be announced to go along with the white bundle?)
Kinda shit they're not re-issuing KOF 97.
Tempted to order a white one to go with my original AES, and hopefully it's 110-240v so I don't have to run a transformer.
They're absolutely going to do more games.
Glad to hear it because Samurai showdown and Sengoku is a must for me! $139 each though, ouch.
If we can order from Japan the Japanese copies are cheaper
It should play original games no?
If so the MVS carts are less for some games. You still need an adapter though which costs money.
There are also ROM carts available for original hardware and multi-carts but the ROM dumps on those can be questionable.
@TightLikeThisx: Yes, it will play the original AES carts. They are aiming for it to be a 1:1 recreation.
KOF 2000 is where it's at!
KOF96, 97, 98, 99 (my favourite personally) and 2000 are the best…
This is my sweet spot as well, although 94 and 95 still stick heavily in my brain regarding the arcade cabinets at my local video stores at an impressionable age. 96 has the best soundtrack in my opinion, but 2000 is pretty good too for a more "modern time" or "era" around that time.
Agreed KOF 96 has the best soundtrack.. KOF97 to 2000 soundtracks are really good too. Everything from 2001 onwards are mediocre or bad..
98 is the best
Neo Turf Masters!🏌️♂️⛳
Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge ⛳
You have selected POWERDRIVE
Ball, is in, carpark. Would you like to play again?
They also added the Scotland course, which was originally an exclusive course for the Neo Geo CD release.
Public service announcement.
Not a deal at all. Just RRP.
Good post as a reminder.
May 5th $149 aud apparently. Judging by Aussie SD release it was around 10am
But I think was in November so may be 9am AEST
Bit expensive, 1/4 of an entry SD LCD but I think it has TMR joysticks vs the SD standard analogue ones.
I did not realise how much the gen1 sd controllers are second hand at the moment what on earth
Thanks
Is this OzRRP?
They're charging $500 for a system from the 90s with a couple of QOL features?
Seems like it… probably uses a 2 dollar emulation cpu
Supposedly the listing says it uses original hardware, but that's all the more reason for it to be cheap 🤣
Just don't take it apart because you might find a raspberry Pi in there.
Not emulation as it’ll run the old AES cartridges which means it requires actual hardware to run.
From what I have heard it’s an ASIC implementation of a pre existing FPGA core.
It's a full redesign of the original chipset into 2 modern ASICS.
It's not emulation, it's literal original logic and hardware.
A good comparison would be the equivalent of the megadrive2 to the megadrive1, or the PS2 slim to the PS2.
Collector item for those 90s kids who couldn't make a strong business case to their parent to buy a console the same price as a used car.
Tough sell as other retro consoles were $100 mark. But Neo geo fan as die hards, will sell.
The OG version of these systems and games are ridiculously expensive now though.
Look up the price of the Neo Geo AVS adjusted for inflation and the current second hand price…
I think it’s fair to call it a bargain.
You can't adjust the original price for inflation because when it released, it was cutting edge technology. Now it's 30 year old tech that costs almost nothing to produce. I get that the company needs to make money but they could easily sell this for $200 and make stacks
I said second hand price too.
If a 1995 Nissan Skyline was released as a new car in 2026 and cost less than a second hand one in comparable condition it would still be a bargain.
This statement should be in the description
This item will be released on November 12, 2026.
Im so old i got no idea what a neo genesis is?
No it's mainly because you are sexually active
Crazy price. But millennials are stupid enough to pay it.
Millennials probably wouldnt know what this is. This is for Gen-Xers!
Millenials are upwards of 46. I’m 41 and always wanted one growing up!
I remember going to Grace Bros ground floor in Pitt Street in the early to mid 90's playing NEO GEO, Mega Drive, Super Nintendo and PS1. Great times!
A lot Millennials are in their 40s and had this lol
Yeah, I would love this, not at this price. 50% off and I can get there.
Games are 140$ each 😂😂.
Honestly why would anyone bother if it's just to play the game. Could be played on literally everything for cents
The OG prices would have been that. Given inflation, not bad theoretically.
Not really, they would have had a high cost to make that back in the day.
I would have no problem paying that for an original well kept item.
This is just a piece of plastic with a couple of mb storage, the cost to build is less than a $ the markup is insane
OG carts were even more expensive
Like $300 in some cases, equivalent of $500+ today
Honestly $300 in the mid 90s was like $2000 today in sheer buying power. Honestly can of coke or bread tells half the story.
just use roms and emulator?
Neo Emu on android.
Mame, FBA Neo, Winkawaks on windows.
Retroarch on Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Shield
MVSPSP on PSP.
Emulator on Wii, PS3
…. many more…
Is there an emulator for switch??
CFW only I think, can't remember.
Edit: Retroarch, according to Reddit.
Edit 2: sorry I thought you meant Wii. :p
So I dunno.
Edit 3: pls smack me. Retroarch for switch
Winkawaks… now that's a name I haven't heard in a loooooooong time.
Atari VCS 2.0 it seems.
This or macbook neo 🤔
This or macbook neo 🤔
Mac neo geo
MacBook neo and OpenEmu to play neogeo games
“Neo” certainly seems to have come of age for product naming. There is even an airbus called Neo.
I don't see this selling well tbh. I'd expect it to come down a lot within three months when they struggle to shift them. HODL
They've reported they blasted through their initial year projections in the first 24 hours
They sold so much more than they were expecting they triggered tax issues in dozens of US states so that they need to put a temporary hold on some USA orders until they get it sorted.
6+ months pre order - wtf is so special about this console?
Expensive in the 90s, expensive today.
Aiming to replicate the entire NeoGeo experience
Half the reason I am pretty sure most people buy this is the fact my parents denied or controlled a lot of these urges as a kid. This is probably why people horde lego and other stuff transformers etc.
And yes I did pre order the white one.
For this price.. I'd want the whole arcade machine
Take a look at how much an original MVS cab will cost you…
Expensive yes but at least the revenue is going to a good cause….
Wonder if there will be an adapter for my mvs carts to play on it. Ordered black.
Plenty of time to cancel, with 2 MiSTer setups (one in a Sega Astro City, another in an Amiga 600 case), and a pile of machines that would make run Mario Kondo screaming here.
Would love to get one. But at $139 a game… that's a lot of steam games!
Better than $1000~$30K.
I bet a modern flashcard will be made soon enough, that you can buy on Aliexpress for cheap.
There are two neo geo flash carts, but they need DDR ram and FPGAs to function. They're about $600usd.
There's the Darksoft and the terraonion ones.
I hope SEGA is taking very, very close notes and attention on this Neo Geo Re-release and get influenced…
Re-release a 1:1 Sega Saturn, SEGA! (with an unreleased version of Virtua Fighter 3 and Shenmue!)
Dreamcast please
Yes. I need another dreamcast - mine is not coping well - although I suppose I could find someone to fix the optical drive. I think this is a common experience.
My Saturn has done better.
There's some kind of mod available via AliExpress that I intend to try to make the GD drive redundant
this thing is such a faithful reproduction, it even recreates the "oh my god, its HOW expensive ?!" of the original neo geo (and yes I'm that old I remember the original lol.)
The original aes console cost AUD $600-900 back in 90s.
Yep $700 when I pleaded with my dad. considering a SNES was $200 on first release and snuck down to $150 later in its life.. it was a hard no. (Starwing was amazing though.)
Seems like they haven't learned anything from their Neogeo CD failure.
Who? Plaion or SNK?
NGCD failure
Different console market, different tech era. Yeah bigger ram & extra CD speed would minimize the loading time but still the tech wasn't there or too expensive. You can now eliminate all those issues by installing SD loader on your NGCD.
Don't forget Hyper NG & Neo Pocket non color.
That's just RRP? Only advantage is you won't be charged now if you purchase from Amazon, only when it comes out. Other than that, all editions still available on Plaion website and you can get a 5% discount with the coupon WELCOME5.
