    That is cheap.

40% of the fleet is grounded for maintenance,

Maintenance is good but they've always been a poorly managed and run airline

Garuda are fantastic. Their seats have a 32" pitch in economy and I find their food is really good. Especially if they serve Nasi Goreng on the flight which goes down a treat.

In saying that, I would be dubious about any flights right now. Jet fuel remains super expensive with the war going on so book your insurance at the same time just in case.

Interesting… Jetstar seem to be 29" on their Airbus A321neo LR to Bali and anyone who is around 6 feet or taller will find things very cramped. If you have long thighs you are almost required to manspread (or womanspread, but that sounds not quite right) to prevent your knees touching the seat in front.

    • I was surprised to learn garuda has improved immensely over the years. Highly rated airlines by some

    • Easily the best airline on the Sydney to Bali route, have flown with them many times. Used Jetstar last time because we booked late and the difference is stark. Garuda a proper full service airline with great service and a generous checked bag allowance (30kg). Jetstar was ok/adequate, no more than that. Tight and small seats in comparison, less toilets and usually not much cheaper than Garuda if at all.

The one advantage Jetstar has is in return flights to Sydney, as they are currently have the only flight you can come back on without having to travel on the red eye.

The plane will go to Bali, but where will my luggage end up?

    • -3

      Bali….. Bali, India

Garuda are excellent, not the airline they were in the 90s. Have won numerous awards.

likely in Australia still because you aint going nowhere Mr.Dollar General

Is this a good price for Bali, out of any airline? Or is it only a good price for Garuda? I was under the impression you could get flights from $300-400? Not knocking it, I genuinely don't know.

Good price for Garuda. Yes you get them cheaper on budget airliners but you cannot compare the experience.

    • You can get $400 with JQ or any LCC but this price is good for GA

    • Very good, normally $800 per passenger (including baggage)

    • In my experience a good price full stop, and very good for Garuda. Jetstar for example I've found not that cheap once you add checked bags. I'm not tight enough to try and travel with carry on only which would be a PITA.

Lower cost airlines mean extra fees for checked bags (Garuda gives 30kg per person, Jetstar only 20kg for a fee), smaller seats, tighter planes, more chance of delays (Garuda seems to get priority to/from its home country) and in some cases flights so early in the morning you'll arrive exhausted.

November is the beginning of wet season for Bali. Not a deal breaker, and when i travelled i had many sunny days, but be mindful with your planning.

Garuda is awesome by the way. i cant fly with Qantas after having travelled with Garuda…

    • Impact of wet season is exaggerated. Been many times between November and January with no problem.

      • +1

100%. Never had any issues in wet season

Booked Garuda going over but coming back by Jetstar as night flights kill me.

    • Good strategy. The Jetstar day flight coming back is the only one available that avoids the red eye, all others leave Bali at a similar time of night. We did it last time and it certainly makes a difference.

That said, the last two times we came back with Garuda the return flights were empty enough to lie across 4 seats and sleep. I wouldn't expect to get that lucky again tho!

I miss Garuda and their A330 from Perth to Denpasar. They had customs onboard to do your passport checks, so you got off on Bali, grabbed your luggage and were away

  • ANy cheap flights to Japan during Late December 26 to Early Jan 27?

    • I’ve flown cheaply on Cebu Sydney to Tokyo. So that’s worth a look.

It is cheaper depending on your starting point.

  • Any deals for December and Jan?! :P

    • +1

      Are there ever?

It used to be possible to fly AA cheap during Jan/Dec to KL and then fly to Bali cheaply from there. Not too bad if you include KL or Langkawi or Georgetown for a few days. However, not sure if cheap AA flights are available anymore in Dec/Jan.
