Wish there was power in my 1.12 inches

you know its bad when you're measuring to 2 decimal places

  • +1

This, or the 45W IKEA SJÖSS for $19?

    • +2

Is that one a GaN charger?

    • +2

They are pretty different chargers - in size, power, number of ports.

The Anker is super compact, but lower wattage and only one port. It's best for applications where compactness is paramount - ie. pocketable travel charger you can carry with you, or slip in a small pocket.

Otherwise, you're likely better off with a charger with more power / more ports (like the IKEA one, or other similar options from Anker / Ugreen / etc).

      • -1

Only one port is pretty useless for travel, because you'll inevitably find yourself in urgent situations where you need 2 ports. And when you need it you absolutely need it.

Just pay more money for 2 ports in a similarly compact package.

        • +3

Totally disagree. It has its uses - which may not be useful to you, but is certainly useful to other people.

If a 2 port travel charger suits you better, then absolutely - get a 2 port charger instead.

But personally I would rather have one of these super compact chargers AND multi-port (and higher wattage) chargers in my travel kit. I take more than one charger when travelling, as I have a family of 4 worth of devices to charge. And having one super compact pocketable charger is great (and FWIW, I have NEVER been in the situation where the single port has been an issue).

Each to their own - but saying it's useless for travel is just flat out wrong. Useless to you? Sure. (Why are you even looking at a single-port ultra compact charger deal, if that doesn't suit your needs?)

          • -1

@caprimulgus: It's your preference. For me there's no point saving a few dollars and end up with a less useful charger, because when travelling you should pack as light as you can, so one compact charger should be all you need. That's the whole selling point of these GaN chargers, they + USB-C PD dispenses with the old laptop power bricks with barrel plugs. And if one fails you can easily buy another random USB charger locally, just to tie you over until you're home.

For me I usually only charge one device, but when I'm in a rush and have limited time, I want to at least charge the laptop + phone, or phone + earbuds/headphones. A 4-port charger is much larger & heavier, and I need one port to go up to 67w for charging my laptop as quickly as possible - that gets expensive in a 4-port charger.

I'm looking at this deal because chances are Anker is running many deals across many products, so it's worth a look even if I'm not interested in a particular product. And I completely forgot that IKEA also sells a decent charger for $19, until another commenter mentioned it.

            • +1

@safrane: So again - this product doesn't work for your needs.

It works for mine. Thus it is not useless.

And the "whole selling point" of GaN chargers is that they can be made more compact…which…is exactly why it suits my needs, right? So like…I'm using one of these…for exactly the "whole selling point" of GaN chargers…

because when travelling you should pack as light as you can, so one compact charger should be all you need.

So are you telling everyone else how they SHOULD travel? lol. Righteo mate.

You obviously have trouble understanding that other people may have different circumstances or needs to your own. This product is not for you. We get it. Just stop.

Because you can easily get a second port for practically the same size as the one-port version. And oddly enough it's actually cheaper than the one in OP's deal.

Look at the comment by BarrytheBargain - In these GaN charger deals there are always people who make such comments. I listened and the second port actually saved me on a few occasions where I desperately needed to charge more than one device. This is why I make such comments.

Maybe this is for you, but you don't speak for the entirety of the travelling public either. This is something people need to consider when buying a GaN charger for travelling.

But I don't need more ports!! I have other chargers for that!!

I want the smallest possible charger, and a single port is totally fine for MY needs. So that is why the Anker 511 suits MY needs. MY. Mine. My Needs. Not yours. Not everyone's. Not the entirety of the travelling public. MY NEEDS. MY. NEEDS. My needs. Mine. Me.

There is an extremely massive difference between suggesting an alternative (as BarrytheBargain did) vs telling people that how they choose to travel (and what suits THEIR needs) is wrong (what you are doing).

Maybe this is for you, but you don't speak for the entirety of the travelling public either.

The difference is I'M not trying to speak for the entirety of the travelling public! YOU ARE.

You are wrong. It doesn't suit you (and no it doesn't suit everyone!) - but that doesn't make it useless for travel. For SOME PEOPLE it is useful. For SOME PEOPLE it suits their needs.

                  Go away.

You are aware that it costs money in terms of baggage fees, sometimes lots of money? Jetstar only gives you 7kg of carry-on baggage free.

And you are aware that this is a forum for people to try and save money - but sometimes in my opinion it's penny wise, pound foolish.

The difference is I'm not trying to speak for the entirety the travelling public! YOU ARE.

That's why I pre-qualify my remarks as "It's your preference" - then my statements are seen as my preference/opinion of what people should do. Plenty of people have opinions of what people and society should do, me included. You're welcome to disregard my opinion, but you for some reason somehow regard my words as "trying to speak for the entirety the travelling public" - I only said "should" - not "must" or "shall".

You're perfectly entitled to carry 2 chargers or more in your travels, but let's be honest here with the fuel crisis the airlines will cut everything, including baggage allowances to the bone, and people will need to think long and hard on how they pack for their travels. And a 2-port charger is a lot more useful than a 1-port charger.

@caprimulgus: Sure. Because this opinion is going to come up every time (not by me, but others on OzB) whenever a 1-port charger comes up as a deal here.

I just completed a cleanup of my office and have ended up with about 12 chargers that I wasn't using…

Maybe I should post that as a bargain?

    • +2

      The classifieds forum awaits

    • +3

Throw it in the bin to add to landfill.

    • I'm surprised they still work. I've had both of my Anker nano chargers fail.

The bigger ones have been fine

  • +3

Most would be better off with this unless you want Gan for some reason. One port chargers seem too limited for me for travel etc
    https://amzn.asia/d/0drusfxh

    • I've been through 2 of those. Both purchases have failed and needed to be replaced by anker.

I "think" what happens is the usb c plug end shorts out the a port if you plug it in blindly (or drop a cable). that's my guess.

    • Or this: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0FDFPM7KJ?smid=A1W7HJ9…

GaN, 3 ports, 67W and only $3 more.

    • That one is only 20W max USB-C.

  • +7
    • This one I had issues with on a Xiaoxin Pad Pro, it just wouldn't fast charge so swapped to the Anker in this post

    • Fair bit larger tho

  • +1

Any good deals for USB C fast charging cables?

  • +1

i reckon this one at 25w and under $17 is a better deal

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Anker-Charging-Charger-Portable-Co…

    • +1

I think this 25W is actually a newer charger - but I don't think it's GAN and I think it's actually a bit larger than the Anker 511 (not sure - amazon spec comparison says the 25W is smaller, but the 511 looks smaller to me, and from comments I have read, the USA 25W is larger than the USA 511, so that would make sense).

Whether the extra money is worth it for the extra compactness is up to you. Both would be good options for pocketable travel charger (also the Ugreen Mini 30W).

      • amazon spec comparison says the 25W is smaller, but the 511 looks smaller to me

Amazon spec comparison says the 30W Nano is smaller:

        • 25W: 3.1 x 3.1 x 3.6 cm 50g
        • 30W: 2.85 x 2.85 x 3.55 cm 41g
        • +1

Amazon specs all over the place…

If you look at the page for the 511 instead, see here:
          https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BYRYMD98

          25W: ‎13.3 x 10.1 x 3.9cm 90g
          30W: ‎14.4 x 10.1 x 3.8cm 40g

I don't trust Amazon dimension specs, unless verified elsewhere!

FWIW, the Anker 511 is approximately:
4.4cm (6cm including prongs) x 2.8cm x 3.8cm by my rough measurement. So neither of these sets of measurements is accurate!

          • +1

@caprimulgus: Those must be packaging sizes. There is no way these things are 13.3/14.4cm long!

  • any good deals for retractable wall charger?

    • +1

where is the wall retracting to?

      • +2

blessed day to be responded by jv

        • +2

Why are you avoiding the question?

    • +2

Not really a thing for Aussies due to the angled prongs sadly, unless they have snap on international adapters

      • was wondering why i can’t find any here or on aliexpress, thanks for lmk

  • Any good chargers for samsung s26 ultra?

    • This one?

    • +1

This charger will be perfectly fine for charging an s26 Ultra at 25W ("Super Fast Charging" 1.0).

But if you want to make use of SFC 2.0 (45W) or SFC 3.0 (60W), you would need to get a higher power charger to match. (Won't be as compact as this.)

I believe the full charge (to 100%) difference between SFC 1.0 and SFC 2.0 is pretty minimal - bigger difference at the low charge end of the charging curve (eg. 0-50%), so may or may not not worth it to you. But SFC 1.0 to SFC 3.0 is a bigger jump, so probably more worth it.

      • Thanks, I'm looking for SFC 3.0.

        • +1

No worries - you'll want to look for a 60W+ charger that supports PPS at 20V/3A or higher. (Probably best you just search for chargers that specifically state or confirmed to work with SFC 3.0 / super fast charging 3.0, just to make sure it works.)

    • +1

If you need more ports and higher wattage, then sure.

The only reason to get this Anker 511 (or similar, like the Ugreen Mini 30W) is if you want the smallest / most compact charger, and can make do with 30W. Otherwise, you are likely better off with a multi-port and/or higher wattage charger.
