To set up auto redemption for MyCard:

On the rewards portal (accessed via your points total on the app/website), head to the points transfers area, and then set up auto redemption.

Now in a very counterintuitive process, click add to cart and then check out. You'll be then presented with the screen to enter your Velocity number.

Then make sure you press the continue button at the bottom of the cart (I think your email is displayed around here), and then check out.

    • Thank you! Agree it's very counterintuitive!!

    • +1

      Yeah just went through this

Absolute pain in the arse of an app and process

Whoever designed it needs to be shot

    • If you set-up auto transfer, will it transfer your exisiting balance, or do you have to do that manually?

      • I think they do auto transfers on the 15th of every month, including your existing balance. Happy to be corrected though.

    • +1

I tried and failed at this for the last promo… Thanks for the excellent guide to one of the most ridiculous user experiences I've ever witnessed!

      • Won't let to change it I think.

Can confirm it has successfully been activated and the points are transferred.

  • Minimum of 1 point in each month?

    • +1

Looking at the T&Cs for a few of the banks at the bottom, most have ~1000 VFF point minimums per transfer.

  • +6

I am sadly presuming the olden days of a flybuys 10-15% transfer offer will never come back?

    • +1

I’m been waiting quite a while for that too!

  • From the FAQ.

Members already opted into auto-redemption or auto-sweep as of the start of the Promotion Period (11:59pm AEST on 30 April 2026) are not eligible for this offer.

Will turning off auto redemption and turning it on again make me eligible?

    • +1

Were you already opted in to auto-sweep at 11:59pm AEST on 30 April?

      • Yes on mycard. Ive just turned off and on. Fingers crossed.

        • +2

Nobody should have auto transfer on, unless there is an offer like this to give a 10+% bonus

          • @Coops1: Sometimes you need auto transfer on to receive the higher welcome bonuses

            • +2

@tresburrito: True, but turn it off as soon as you get the bonus.

              • +1

@Coops1: Yep, agreed, I'm in an unfortunate spot still waiting for the bonus points, meant to hit this week, so I have left on and will likely miss this offer.

                • @tresburrito: I turned my auto sweep off and received bonus pts in mycard not velocity

                • @tresburrito: I guess if you leave it on or did the toggle off then back on you're taking a punt on qualifying for the 20% bonus versus taking the safe bet of doing a manual transfer for the smaller 10% bonus?

                  • @vawiyoci: I could be wrong but I thought the 10-20% bonus points wouldn't apply to the welcome offer points? Would be happy to be corrected here though.

                    • @tresburrito: Yes you are correct. But I do wonder if this is something their system might overlook as I recall getting it in previous years. The manual transfer FAQs only mention autosweeps so maybe that'll still work for new cards?

                    • +1

@tresburrito: not only that, but the terms are loosely written to also exclude bonus points on auto transfers if sign up bonus is received during the promo months.
edit: would also be happy to be corrected

                      • @powerhead: Yes that's how I read the terms as well. At the moment, I'm not sure it's worth canceling my auto sweep, risking my welcome bonus, to try to manual sweep my welcome bonus across for the possible additional 10%, but would love to hear if someone has done this before successfully.

          • @Coops1: For NAB at least if you're a churner it looks like it saves the setting from the previous time you held the card. Just tried to do it for a relative who's had the NAB rewards card before and it still had their velocity number saved with the auto-redemption still toggled on.
            Oh well.

        • No, it wont work. you will not get bonus points for autotransfer.

  • -2

No flights to Europe right now due to the middle east situation. United isn’t releasing premium seats to partners anymore. Virgin mostly has limited Asia options with some less popular airlines, and the Singapore Airlines partnership is ending.

Velocity points are pretty poor value at the moment, so think twice before transferring to them.

    • +9

Could not find information about Singapore Airlines partnership is ending with Virgin Australia.
Only find "Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic end partnership"

    • +1

"the Singapore Airlines partnership is ending."

Care to provide some evidence of this by way of a link?

    • I booked business class reward flights last month from LGW to Melbourne for June on Singapore Airlines (their new LGW route) to replace my QR flights.

QFF had no non-Emirates business class flights available at the same time.

I too haven't heard about the partnership ending.

  • Has anyone had experience with previous 20% bonus offers where auto-redemption had been ON before the offer, but was switched OFF before the offer started? I had it on in early Apr but turn it off a couple of weeks ago so if I turn it back on now and keep it on for the required period, would I still be eligible for the 20% bonus from what others have experienced?

    • +1

I turned off and on mycard auto redemption. Fingers crossed.

    • +1

Terms state if it was on at 30th April then you're not eligible. I if it was off you're good

    • +2

Yes, it works - at least with ANZ. I always put it on auto at the start of the offer and make a calander entry to turn it off at the end and then I wait the 4 months or so for the next one. Works every time.

  • +3

    Finally, was waiting for this.

  • +1

Does anyone know if flybuys transfers still offer bonuses or has that ended for good?

  • Dang in need CBA transfer bonus. Does anyone know if these happen?

    • Commbank participated last time in November-December last year

  • Is it better to transfer from Amex to Velocity or wait for other bonus offer to another partner airline?

    • The ME situation may change things with the Arabic Gulf airlines, but I wouldn’t count on it happening now.

    • +2

It totally depends on who you want to fly with. It's rarely a 1:1 points transfer between partners.

The 10% bonus points are great if you plan to fly with Virgin or Singapore Airlines.

With Amex -> Velocity it's 2:1, so with the extra 10%, 100k Amex = 55k Velocity. Amex -> Krisflyer it's 3:1, so 100k Amex = 33.33k Krisflyer. If you transfer 55k Velocity -> Krisflyer at 1.55:1 you get 35.48k Krisflyer or 2.15k more Krisflyer Miles due to the bonus.

Velocity points are only really useful for domestic flights. You might find something international, but they're pretty rare and far between (or so insanely priced that it isn't worth it). If you're looking for something international, then you'll find a lot more available flights booking directly with Singapore Airlines (which then requires the 1.55:1 transfer from Velocity).

The advantage of transferring to Velocity is that the points don't expire as long as there's continued activity on your account (easy to maintain activity by linking up 7-Eleven or FlyBuys). If you transfer to Krisflyer directly, points have a hard 3 year expiry (you can transfer them back to Velocity as a last resort before they expire, but at same 1.55:1 which means a significant loss).

These days I rarely keep any points in my Krisflyer account. If I need to book a redemption flight with Singapore Airlines, I search for availability, and if it's available and I want to proceed, I then transfer from my Velocity account the required points, and then make my redemption booking directly with Singapore Airlines.

Additional with current events, both fuel costs due to the Iran situation, and with credit card fees being banned, expect in the next 12 months a double whammy where point transfer rates will be devalued (e.g., 2:1 becomes 3:1, and 3:1 becomes 4:1), airlines increase the redemption costs (e.g., Perth-Hong Kong return business class goes from 89k Krisflyer to 99k Krisflyer), and airlines remove a bunch of redemption seats from being available (e.g., 10 business class and 20 economy seats available on Singapore-London daily becomes 2 business class and 16 economy seats available daily).

      • With velocity only nice business class flights I found was to Doha in Qatar Airways around 150,000 points. I havent found any Singapore airlines business class flights. I guess its better to transfer to velocity and atleast keep the points active.

        • To be honest, at 10% bonus it's not a massive difference. For the flexibility of being able to move the points to whichever airline makes more sense at the time of booking, it's probably easier to just leave it in Amex and do the transfer at whatever rate is available at the time.

The only real urgency is if there's a planned devaluation of points, e.g., 2:1 to 3:1. Then you want to get it out quickly and live with the choice you've made. I did this with Singapore Airlines years ago when they devalued Amex from 2:1 to 3:1. That did however leave me with the 3 year use or lose scenario which wasn't pleasant.

One thing you can do to increase your odds of finding Singapore Airlines business class flights is look at booking from Singapore rather than from Australia. A lot of the Australian legs are unavailable, but the legs from Singapore to Europe/NA are available. If you then organise your own paid flight to Singapore with a day or two either side, this makes the far more expensive component of the flight accessible via points. Sometimes you can also get really cheap points flights from other cities in Asia like Jakarta that aren't available from AU or even Singapore. It's strange (especially considering a Jakarta flight would go back to Singapore first), but worth looking into if you're a bit flexible.

      • Velocity points are only really useful for domestic flights

I might be the one of the rare person to use velocity points for ANA reward flights to Japan.

I consistently get ANA business reward seats, for both direct and return flights separately.

God knows when they'll end or change the way Velocity points are redeemed/spent for international flights but, for now, I'm quite happy with focusing on VFF over QFF.

        • trying to find ANA business reward seats from Melbourne, but can only see economy reward seats, for next few weeks or Mar/Apr next year

      • I found Qatar Airways flights aren't too difficult to find if you booked them the usual 330 days or so in advance, depending on the time of year you want to travel. I've been to Europe and back twice in business rewards using Velocity points.

Obviously currently a less attractive proposition.

  • HSBC not included this time

Perhaps I'm a DumbF, however confused how there's any consideration for value using points with Velocity.
Very few flight options, especially OS, let alone $value vs alternatives.
Plus website/app buggy/slow asf. Calendar pricing not avail all routes, unlike others.

    I'm no mathematician, however;
    Via MyCard(mc), 2pnts = 1 Velocity(vp). = $50val Vs $100 Flight Centre gift-card for 20,900mc.
    E.g. Perth>Singapore 19th May non-stop.
    Velocity/Virgin = Economy Reward Seat 50,600vp (101,200mc). Business 688,000vp (1,376,000mc).
    Vs Flight Centre/Jetstar (gift-cards), Economy $165 (34,485mc). Business $1,212 (253,308mc).

Am I missing some kind of value with Velocity you guys are seeing I'm not???

    Other options to exchange mc points (best to worst imo);
    Multiple other 20,900/$100>104,200pnts/$500 gift-card options.
Pay with Points $100 to CC for 24,500pnts. Which wtf seems the same as Cashback to CC, however $100 for 40,000pnts.
    Pay $129 Annual Fee w/ 51,600pnts.
1.33 = 1 Flybuys. (FB only made sense for me late 90s, when combined with NAB CC for all my business expenses, paid in full when due).

    • +1

Pay with Points, gift cards and using points for "non classic" flights give a value around 0.4 - 0.6c per point. NEVER waste points on these, especially the 666,000 point flights! These are not reward seats!

If you look at PER - SIN 11th March the points are 60,000 in business class plus taxes $261.75. The flight itself in currency is overpriced at $4200, but relatively you are achieving over 6.0cents per point

Velocity points for reasonably priced velocity rewards flights usually give you about 3.4cents per point in value

There is some availability with velocity points to Asia and not so much to Europe with medium taxes. Conversion to Krisflyer gives more availability, lower points used and very low taxes! Comes down to flexibility and routes. Eg fly into Belgium not France etc. The virgin points flights would be Qatar via Doha, and the Krisflyer via Singapore Airlines

If you can find flights via Velocity East coast to Europe they are 155k in points plus $700 in taxes, while Singapore is 141k and $110 taxes, approximately

Example PERTH-DOHA-PARIS ON 11March is 139,000 points and $708 taxes in business
Similar flight on Singapore is 131,000pts and $110 taxes

      • -6

March next year? Fk that! Anything could happen between now & then.
I'd "NEVER" put my life on hold for that long, especially for points addiction.

        That 60,000 + $261.75 = ~175,000mc, but gotta wait 11 months.
Vs for only 253,308mc, I can fly Business in a couple of weeks. 101,200mc Economy.
Show me a way to use points within the next 3 months that beats that.

Including East Coast in your info = additional cost flying there first.
Only reason I'd 'Maybe' do that, is for a Great value cruise, justifying return flight cost.

However some weirdos will pay more than that just to watch a stupid football game they could watch on TV at home.

      • -1

Perth to Brussels on SQ is 131,500 krisflyer points which is equivalent to 203,825 velocity points (1kf = 1.55 velocity)

So it's cheaper flying on Qatar if available points wise.

        • -1

I agree, but the availability and extra flexibility needed is the key. Perth is a bit of an outlier for availability and points cost. It’s generally way better ex the East Coast. The $600 in extra taxes is worth 20k in points (at J prices) so narrows the gap a little.

        • How is Perth>Brussels relevant to Perth>Singapore?
Like mentioning Europe/East Coast, seems you're attempting to justifying Any destination that suits points, rather than the destination I want.

          • @linoc66: Maybe points arent for you.

To use and maximise points value there is a need to be very flexible with destination, dates and departure ports. Unfortunately Perth doesnt have much Velocity or Singapore availability at the moment. Although PER-SIN on Singapore Airlines is 42500 KF points on 20 July

What i was trying to highlight is that you compared values of a 666,000 point business class flight against a gift card redemption. Its just a waste of points converting to gift card (or flybuys) or paying 666,000pts.

Additionally, re PER-Brussels and from East Coast there is better availability and value in long haul business compared to short-medium haul. Just like its bad value to use points for economy, as a cash fare is usually cheaper.

  • Anyone know how long the bonus points will hit after the second transfer is done in june?

    • Think the T&Cs mentioned points would be awarded by 31st July

      • Thank you! Wish it more immediate for my impatient self haha

  • Sorry if this has been answered but if you set up auto transfer for mycard, will it transfer your whole existing balance on the 15th of each month?

    • +1

      yes it will

  • With Auto Transfer do you need to do a transfer in May and June to qualify?

May transfer would clear out my whole balance, hence there would be nothing to transfer in June. I suspect that would catch out a few people.

    • What do the T&Cs say?

    • +3

"keep Auto Transfer on until at least 30 June 2026"
Not saying you have to transfer in June, to be safe, just spend a few dollars, so you have points to transfer in June

      • +1

Yes be careful as if you don't get the points and try to follow up with Velocity Support, they will make things up like that to avoid giving you the points….

Happened recently in one of the other threads.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/919520?page=3

    • Yeah this is the concern, as it was an issue recently, nab wouldnt honour extra points beacuse they said you didnt transfer points each month.

  • will it stack up mycard 110,000 bonus Velocity Points offer?

  • +1

Well, the 15th whizzed by and no sign of my points being transferred through MyCard despite being opted in to auto transfer. Did it work for other folk?

    • Nope not transfer for me either

      • Me three

        • Mine have swept out now.

Will probably take around 2-4 days to show up in Velocity.

    • So many people enrolled that their system broke.

    • my mycard points still sitting in the account

    • Same :(
