    • No, but am looking into one atm, deciding NL vs 0.88% finance.

      • +2

NL is on the ex-GST price but the residual payment will have GST.

Also, NL will affect your salary in a different way compared to the 0.88% finance.
It's not a clear-cut answer and is very dependent on your own personal finance and tax obligations.

        • +1

yeah after running the figures, looks like NL will still come out about $10k cheaper after 5years for me.

          • +1

@vinnie05: for ev, consider NL for 1-2 y only and keep it till y 4-5 and sell.

            • +1

@Bindingo: Why 1-2 years for the lease only?

              • +1

@Zerosignal: One reason I can think of is lower risk due to the difference between the car's value and remaining rental payments being smaller.

Another reason if you're on a very high salary and you have lots of 45% marginal rate dollars to play with.

            • +4

@Bindingo: Depreciation/repayments are larger if you limit the loan to 1 or 2 years, rather than spread out over 5, so maximises tax savings. Additonal to this you are not tied into the high interest rates attached to NLs. Maximum bang for buck essentially

              • @Lemond1977: I have read somewhere that if you do 13 months lease, the depreciation would be the same as 2 year lease.

                • @No ONE: My novated lease provider doesn't do 13 months leases. Only yearly. My understanding is that many of them aren't that flexible.

I first had a 1-year lease with depreciation to 65%, and recently signed a new continued lease for one more year, and guess what, my depreciation is again 65% off $32k. At the end of the 2nd year my balloon payment would be $21k. Not bad for a 48.5k d/a car.

I'm still feeling salty for paying so much for the car and not getting any discounts as opposed to others just a couple of months later. And the car became obsolete in just one year due to Geely releasing a version with a bigger battery.

                • @No ONE: I have heard of it, but never done it myself, may depend on the Lease Company you are working with whether they allow it.
I've done two novated leases, one was 1 year and the other 2 years, both for the reasons I mentioned above

                • @No ONE:

I have read somewhere that if you do 13 months lease, the depreciation would be the same as 2 year lease.

Suggest you read from this site then (https://www.ato.gov.au/law/view/document?DocID=TXD/TD93142/N…). Cars are 8 years effective life. 13 month would be 64.84% residual value whilst 1 year is 65.63% and 2 years is 56.25%

            • @Bindingo: Why is that

      • +1

NL wasn't a good option for me, due to employment volatility. Too big of a risk to take. I signed mine at 1.88% CR last week. But I was able to get the dealership (Perth) to give a $1k discount and throw in the mats for free.

        • Which dealership in WA? Happy for you to share here or message me.

  • "Based on $30,000 over 5 years" - so bit unclear if you can finance up to purchase price…

    • that's in reference to the comparison rate calculation… eg. if you borrow 10k, comparison rate will be higher

      • +1

it actually says "$0 deposit requirement for a 36-Month Term.".. So borrow the whole amount and park your savings in a 5% interest bearing account.

    • 0.88% is only for 3 year term, they have different rates for 5 years, 2+% something.

      • Are you sure 5 yr is 2.88% now?

Last week I was offered 3 yr 1.88%, 4 yr 2.88% and 5 yr 3.88%, and bought conditional on finance, obviously last night they updated the deal so I want to know whats up.

If its dropping down a 1% per year thats huge.

        • Sorry you could be right 5 yr 3.88%

    • Values used in comparison rate displays are mandated by law.

  • Read in another post there are some big fee's attached aswell

    • +5

Not really given the very low rate. There's a $1500 setup/loan origination fee.

Pay that, or pay 6 to 8% interest on a private loan….

Bought a starray last month at this rate and simply financed it so I could leave the money sitting in my offset.

        • +4

A car isn’t a pair of sneakers where you can pay with afterpay.

There’s benefits in paying vehicles over an amortisation period.

        • +5

If I paid out in full (I could have), then I would have lost 40k sitting in my home offset at 5.8% interest. Effectively I would be losing money not to finance.

Using cash from offset is like borrowing at your mortgage rate. If the car loan is cheaper than that, you’re better off financing.

This only works if you actually keep the money in offset (don’t spend it) and you don’t extend the loan unnecessarily long.

            • +5

@Dollar General: Plenty can afford both and can get busy living rather than dying.

              • -1

                @Brianqpr:

                Plenty can afford both

Plenty think they can afford both because they don't understand the true cost of depreciating assets. But if you do the sums, it's not a great financial choice.
I can easily afford a mortgage and a new car, but I chose 3 mortgages and a used car instead because I did the sums. But your choice…

and can get busy living rather than dying.

The trick is whether you just to live in your 20's and 30's or if you want that living to carry onto your 80's… 60 years of living beats 20 years IMO…

                • +4

@1st-Amendment: If you make it to your 80s, and even if you do in good enough health to enjoy any money you've squirreled away.

Not everything has to be a "financial choice". I don't regret a single holiday we've had, even though we could have not gone anywhere and saved all the money. Experiences matter far more and the future is guaranteed to nobody.

Richest person in the graveyard? Someone else can have that "honour".

                  • -1

@Brianqpr: Car and holiday are different

I would rather buy a used car and splurge on holidays. Cars are a money pit

Too many people have a car that’s more comfortable than their house and they are only in their car a hour a day

                  • @Brianqpr:

Not everything has to be a "financial choice"

                    Didn't say it did.

                    I don't regret a single holiday we've had,

Didn't mention holidays. I specifically mentioned assets.

Richest person in the graveyard? Someone else can have that "honour".

This is poor person logic. And this is where financial literacy separates wealthy people from poor people. A few smart choices early on can work up to hundreds of thousands of dollars even in a couple of decades.
                    An example:
Buy a nice new car for $60k, or a decent used one for $10k and invest $50k
In 5 years option A results in a net loss of $30k, option B is a net gain of $30k. $60k difference in wealth in 5 years just by making smarter choices. Now do that for 20 or 30 years compounded and see the difference. It is literally hundreds of thousands of dollars difference. This will pay for more holidays than you can ever dream of.

Or you can have a few fancy cars when you're younger than spend the entire second half of your life wishing you'd made better choices.

            • +1

@Dollar General: Keep on trolling. Bought a new car for business. Buying a used, reliable car bare minimum would be $30k to be fit for purpose. Factor in high mileage use for the business with either petrol or diesel options and over the life of the car, makes sense to buy new vs used.

I've already halved (more than) my weekly petrol costs which means that I'm on track to be ahead by at least $3k a year moving in from what was already a very efficient car with 300k km. So after 3 years cost differential is negligible and I've still got new car warranty, cheaper fixed price service, and have been able to depreciate the cost of the car via the business and will run it until it dies

              But yeah financial literacy…..

            • @Dollar General: And you should be first to enrol 👍

        • NL is cheaper than cash thanks to FBT exemption. Meanwhile cash does something else like sit in offset or earn interest 👍

          • +1

@Brianqpr: When you learn the difference between wants and needs, you will be on the path to financial freedom

            • @Dollar General: Preacher, which category would you put a holiday?

              • @AABBs: Need to spend quality time with family, rest and recharge

A car can be a need but doesn’t need to be a new car. That’s a want

                • @Dollar General: Fair point mate, holidays are really important for us as well. Lot of smart kids on here. Some make it work, where they can own one of these new cars at a similar price point to owning an older car.

  • -3

Slightly related - have any EV owners taken the huge screen out and replaced it with something normal? Why are they getting bigger? I don't understand the point of them

    • +17

They arent like old cars with removable headunits. You are stuck with the screens.

    • +2

      Watching youtube netflix?

    • +1

Majority of us like them (not saying bigger the better though). Some of these cars (such as Tesla) need this screen to adjust almost all the things related to the car including basic things like Air Con adjustments. And it's tightly attached with the internal computers, changing that to a traditional layout would be extremely difficult if not impossible. I personally don't see the point of doing something like that anyways but hey, it's always good to see people with different mindsets, makes the world vivid and beautiful.

    • It's Android 11 based and is quite fast. The only problem is you can't install apps on it. However, through Android Auto and CarPlay it basically becomes a remote screen. Its main CPU is tied to all vehicle functions, even the aircon, so you can't remove it or replace with something else.

If the main CPU dies, you're screwed. It costs many thousands to replace it. And you can't do it yourself without the dealership as it requires programming.

    • Once you watch twitch streamers’ feet while doing 130 down the Hume, you’ll understand.

    • +2

You sound like an old Nokia phone user saying "I don't see the point of a large screen smart phone"
Until you use one, specially a Tesla for navigation, multi reverse cameras, entertainment … you will not understand!
In the near future most trips will be driven by the car itself, so you would be able to relax with youtube, netflix etc…

  • +3

Just started the process of getting one on novated lease a few days ago, just contacted them about this, hopefully they will give us this novated lease discount.

    • Let me know how you go, am in the same situation.

      • No luck on this unfortunely as we already signed agreement prior to this. thought we would ask at least.

        • Did you go to the dealer in person?

          Update from last few days:
My phone calls were being avoided, they were ignoring my number. (I know because my partner's phone was picked up immediately).
They told me it was really busy, and they couldn't get a hold of the manager. So I decided that was a great time to show up in person at the dealer.

I stayed polite but firm expressing my disappointment.
In the end they updated the contract but removed the free charger.

To be honest, I thought they would tell me to go kick rocks…

If you ordered the complete, they may actually want to give you the 6% discount if you upgrade to the inspire (they offered me that too).

  • Price in title please OP.

    • +17

It's conservative, does the important things right and at the right price. For most people, that's enough. There's a reason why there's so many Camrys and Corollas on the road

      • +4

It's a dull and unattractive car.

Toyota - allow us to introduce ourselves

also #1 car company in sales volume and overall profit for decades now without any challenger

    • +1

      Unattractive cars need loving too.

  • +1

Looks like Leap Motor are doing the same deal:

    https://www.leapmotor.net/au/c10

  • +2

Where does it show the $41,990 driveway price? Comes up much higher for me on their website

    • Updated. sorry.

  • Can you please confirm if it's $41990 driveway?

    • +1

      Complete
      $41,990
      475km WLTP Range1
      Full Active Safety
      15.4” HD Multimedia Display
      Power Front Seats with Heating
Surround View Monitor with 3D View
      18" Alloy Wheels
      Portable Mode 2 Charging Cable

      Victoria

      • +1

If you scroll down on their site it gives you the driveaway price. The $41990 is before on road cost.

        • +1

shit, you are right, sorry will update now.

          • @vinnie05: Starting at $44,808 DA in QLD ;)

            • +2

@zonarhd: haha i give up, someone asked me to add price so i did and now i wish i didnt :P

          • @vinnie05: Another thing to note is its based on where u are, in QLD is 1k cheaper ORC than victoria it seems.

            • +1

@Razzel: so better to put base price + on road costs in the title?

  • Can I give them $42K cash and it's mine or is this some special deal to lock people into finance?

    • +15

wiser to park your cash in a 5% interest bearing account and ride the 36 month 0.88% finance.

  • +8

Why would you pay this outright? When the offered interest rate is .88% and inflation is 4.6% (and expected to rise) it means the real interest rate is negative ~4%.

In this case, Geely is giving you back $1000 per year for 3 years. Just take the loan.

    • Does the loan has to be minimum 3 years or 3 years only or longer than 3 years? Thanks!

  • -5

I have heard geely ex5 has some problems forgot what it was… how does leapmotor compare?

    • only thing i have seen is the excessive beeping which can be temp disabled.

    • +3

      ex5
      - front wheel drive
      + HUD
      - we didn't like how you enter/exit from front passenger, test it
      + massage sits
      - no frunk

      b10
+ more up to date computer, wheel buttons same as tesla, very tesla like experience
+ onboard cameras work as dashcam, plus aka tesla sentry mode
+ proper rear wheel drive, 50-50 weight distribution, "maseratti tuned" suspension whatever that means
      + quicker charging
      + slightly higher clearance
      + accessories rail at front
      - no rear wiper
      - no light in second row
      - frunk is still coming for AU market
+ ADAS beeping (compulsory by law) now can be turned off at start by one click

before b10 jumped in price (+5k) it was clear winner, now need more thoughts…

      • +1

Should note that the ADAS beeping in the Geely EX5 is very easy to switch off now too, straight from the steering wheel don't have to touch the screen.
I like the seat sliding back and forth to enter/exit, but if you don't like it you can switch it off (permanently I'm pretty sure).
FWD doesn't bother me, it's all I've ever had. Overall I love the EX5, got the Inspire version and it's a comfortable, borderline luxurious drive for the price (which is minimal with an EV novated lease)

        • EX5 Inspire was cheaper earlier, right (around Feb or Mar), around $46k, in WA. It is coming over $50k in WA now.

How much did you pay for it?

          • @Benzy: I got it for $43k driveaway in Vic, back in January. They were giving lots of deals then. Also it was on novated lease which knocked a bit off. Very happy with the deal now, great timing for once!

            • @Birdseye: Thas a really good deal.

$43k driveway after removing GST due to novated lease or including GST?

Do you mean Very happy with the deal you got or this deal is good?

              • +1

@Benzy: It was 43k before removing GST. But then there are some upfront lease costs that added some back in. I'm very happy with the deal I got (and the car) - this deal also looks pretty good considering we are in a different situation now

        • the seat issue was about how far off the ground and deep into car, was not an issue for me, but shorter people said it is hard-ish and if there any mobility issues - it's basically no go (kinda like Land Cruiser situation). B10 and Jakoo J5 were ok in that regard.

EX5 looked really nice to me I liked HUD and massage seats, the LUX version was more expensive then B10 LR. hence choice was j5 and b10.

We have had Nissan Leaf for 7 years, front wheel drive EV = make sure you rotate tires twice as often then it's recommended and be very gentle in turning from stop (same for wet road).

      • Nice summary. B10 is better for sure but needs that low price to justify it.

    • It did poorly in terms of handling when checking chasing cars. I am too interested to know how they compare. Since, I have researched the EX5 (@1.88%), it was a still a good option instead of BYD and others. Why? She has 3 kids and the biggest dog… they were comfortable in this compared to others in the same price point.

    • Id not buy a leapmotor simply because they are associated with Stellantis, (Parent company of Jeep, Chrysler Fiat, Peugeot - Such reliable cars they make /s)

  • Isn't that the same deal as the previous one, only extended? We've been looking at cars for a while and it sounds the same, ie 0.88% finance etc. It was expiring last of April, so it sounds like it's just been extended. Is that correct or is there some additional instant discount involved?

We've looked at so many cars that I might be getting some of the exact prices mixed up

    • Main difference is 6% off price with a novated lease. we signed up for one a few days back and are hoping they will match this deal.

      • Where does it say 6% off on Novated Lease?

        • On the website, see eofy deals.

  • This or a used Model Y?

    • If brand names doesn't mean anything for you and don't care about FSD, then this.

      • GEELY is a big brand. They are the parent company for some big brands like Volvo and polestar. Also they sold the highest number of cars in China for last year I believe.

        • +4

If you need to mention this statement everytime you say Geely instead of people recognising it, it is doesn't have a brand name here. Else, Geely will also charge more for it. Since this is a car for the masses and not car enthusiasts, those info won't be remembered unless you are coping.

How do I know? I was telling myself the same thing about the Zeekr but they didn't bring in their estate model yet.

          • -1

@samkenny: What? Just because YOU do not recognise a brand name personally doesn’t take away from the millions of people who do recognise it? The statement is an evidence of credibility that goes beyond the name Geely

    • They're totally different cars for different audience.

Used Model Y doesn't have ventilated seats - that was a deal-breaker for me after test driving it in the heat. My whole back was sweating. No such problem in the EX5. The Inspire trim comes with ventilated seats.

      • Sounds like you live in a hot climate… I'm in northern Australia, hot 365 days of the year so a strong aircon is a must.

How do you find the aircon on really hot days? Can it handle it?

  • say this bad boy breaks down, how long are the repairs and where? ive never seen a dealer in Sydney

    • +1

there looks like about 7 dealers in Sydney. 3rd largest EV company behind Tesla & BYD so they are not going anywhere.

      • looks like they took over VW or have some partnership with them
