Whens the VR headset coming out?

    • +8

      Asking the real questions

    • +3

They said first half of 2026, I couldnt find any solid post around exact dates. Same goes for Steam Machine.

      • +7

Was probably due around now but the ol ram and nvme costs probably dampened that

        • -1

Dont really know how that impacts the frame though. I'm super keen on the headset as I want to pair it with my deck.

          • +4

@ThadtheChad: The frame is a mini computer in and of itself, according to their announcement video. It will have RAM in it, and will thus be affected.

            • +2

@dongltron: Lol exactly… not to mention the storage for it too which it will have no doubt, can’t imagine they’re strapping a 3.5in drive to it. Ram and nvme would have well and truly blown out the cost for it.

            • @dongltron: You're absolutely right.

Wow, apparently it will have 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM

So the wait continues, I'm even more excited to get it.

          • +1

@ThadtheChad: It's not just a HMD, it's an all-in-one unit like the meta quests.

  • +102

But is this rrp or a discounted launch price? If rrp, where's the deal? It's only an advert.

      • +27

Ok, good to know that's how deals are defined now. I get it's your post hence the response, but new product availability doesn't scream deal to me unless it was only available for a certain time, discounted at launch, or in limited amounts.

        • +10

The truth is, there is no strict definition of "bargain" on this site.

Instead, the community votes on whether something is a good deal or not. That's the whole reason it works so well.

It works better because we also get to see products that are RRP, but are still a great deal, e.g.: when GPUs were going for twice MSRP everywhere, for months, and someone posted a deal of one retailer selling some at MSRP.

          • -6

@ItsMeAgro: I think its a problem with this site. not a good thing.

          • +3

@ItsMeAgro: Another aspect of the way the site works, product pages are only created once posted.
So now it's been posted at RRP there's a product page for anyone who wants to subscribe for future discounts

        • +2

good to know that's how deals are defined now

This isn't new. That's how it's been and how it'll continue to be hopefully.

      • +40

The steam deck was a deal cause it wasnt available in australia leading to higher priced third party sellers, this doesnt have that.

      • +13

I didn't realise this was going to be sold in Australia officialy, so I appreciate this post

      • +8

being available in (always neglected) Australia is what makes it a deal.

Sounds like my childhood was a deal

      • +3

“You can buy it, so it’s a deal”

      • What’s so special about this controller that just being able to buy it here could be considered a “deal”?

      • -1

        Just stop digging.

      • +1

All Valve products are coming to Australia now as they established the trade routes or whever for it during Steam Deck release. They have said this themselves.

This is a new product that Australia is getting at launch, same time as the rest of the world. Very different to Australia getting a late release that's cheaper than resellers.

    • +13

Unfortunately that is the way this website has gone, I remember when I joined it was only actual deals posted.

      • +9

100%, so many crap posted on here as deals these days as people just want to get their no.s up rather than posting quality.

        • -3

Comment of the day! Sadly so very very true!

      • yeah back in my day shakes fist

    • +2

If i could buy a RTX 5090 at RRP i would consider that a deal.

      • +5

That would be an exception because the 5090/4090 are rarely if ever at actual rrp, it's basically fake, I would also understand scalped products being posted here but do you believe that getting a steam controller at RRP will be an issue? obviously not so why defend this post

    • I know it is only RRP, but as a pom this deal looks pretty good compared to the £99 in the UK, roughly $186. So yeah it's not a deal but this is a good price

  • +56

No Savings, No Limited stock, and no lack of availability in Australia except through third party imports like the steam deck. I fail to see a deal here.

    • +8

Agree with the first bits but there is Australian stock direct from Steam, hence this post.

      • +4

It wasnt at first, Steam deck got a release date 2 year 9 months after the original release date in Australia.

        • +2

There was always going to be Aussie stock. They said that from day one.

  • Will it be sold at retailers?

    • +2

Usually JB/GG/HN would put it up for pre-oder if they do plan to sell it, I havent found any as of yet. I would prefer to buy from local retailers myself.

      • +3

I guess buying discounted gift cards to buy steam credit could be a cheaper way to get it.

        • I’ve heard it only available from Steam like the Deck for Australia

        • Can you actually use gift cards to buy steam gift cards? Thought they stopped that.

  • +26

    OzRRP.

  • Nice!

  • +4

A 'deal' is now defined as a post that has affiliate revenues associated with it. They removed the bargain element even though the site retains the name.

    • -1

      Is that you, marshmallow?

      • +3

No just another bargain hunter calling out ethically impoverished affiliate grifting when I see it.

Please tell us more about how we can improve to serve better deals to you.

      • +1

Sure. Please return us to the days before the RRP advertising/affiliate spam. Those were some fine times. Thanks.

        • You need a deal on an entitlement cleanse, I'll do some research for you.

      • it's sad because there was a degree of nobility in the collective cause. it's a situation not dissimilar to the controlled addition of fluoride to public water supplies. except the owners decided to replace the fluoride with raw sewage because it was financially rewarding for them to do so.

        • -1

What's sad is people like you criticising others for their efforts yet contributing nothing in return.

'Beggars can't be choosers' comes to mind.

  • +16

    not a bargain

    • -2

The og steam controller is something i hate that i never bought to try.

        • It's def not gonna be a flop 'cause people have been begging for it.
They really nailed the controls on Steam Deck, and this is just Steam Deck minus the screen.

Why buy it over the competition? The trackpads.
After using my Steam Deck, I really miss them on controllers, especially for fast typing. They aren't just normal trackpads, they have haptic feedback, and you can use them for an insane amount of things.

It lets you play games with controller that would otherwise be impossible to play via controller, and is even surprisingly great for shooters.
But it also still gives you all the functions of a normal controller, unlike the original Steam Controller. It's the best of both worlds.

If the trackpads don't appeal to you tho and/or you've never tried Steam Deck trackpads, I can totally understand why this wouldn't interest you.
It's certainly a bit of an enthusiast product.

    • +1

I also got burned with the original steam controller. Never again. What an epic waste of money this looks to be as well.

    • +2

agree with you. Normal RRP so not a deal.

    • ended up throwing it in the bin

Well that was silly of you considering CeX would've bought it of you for $50 cash or $60 credit since they're able to resell the "embarassing flop" for $115.

  • -5

I appreciate this post. I plan on owning the above and a steam box and consider RRP a bargain for those products

    • +1

the value of the steambox is a popular, just works, cookie cutter pc

the price and performance, especially compared to the ps5, soon to be released ps6 or even a minipc is going to be laughable, especially at rrp

  • +9

Surprisingly I didnt see a post for SC even though Australian release is expected within a week.

Because RRP is not a deal

  • +21

This isnt a deal, its rrp

    • +5

      Another OzB Rrp

  • +5

Mate this is not a deal

  • +13

stop posting RRP and pretending like its a deal

  • -2

I guess that the Steam store is the only place currently to buy this Steam Controller and it's at RRP. Not even EB Games has it listed. I guess that EB Games mightn't want to touch it or any other Australian retailer for that matter. Considering that the original Steam Controller sold years ago was that much of a sales flop. It wasn't that liked.

    • Can’t believe they basically couldn’t give it away, and last I checked, boxed ones were near $100 on ebay.

      • -1

If they still have it on ebay after all this time then no body wants to buy that junk.

Valve should have just given up. The market is already flooded with game controllers. There's no way that this new Steam Controller is going to sell many units.

        • If they do sell the steam machine with a controller, I hope there’s an option without a controller as I’ve got that many controllers…

    • +2

Mate, this is a bit of a shit take.

This is exceptionally better than the old steam controller. I had the old one, that I grabbed off with the steam link for ~$20 odd bucks? The thing was shitty, but had some very interesting concepts explored. I played the entirety of HL2 using that IIRC.

The new one is heavily influenced by the UX lessons learned from the steam deck, and I believe it will be exceptional given the quality of components going in (TMR, gyro sensors, dual trackpads, insanely good battery life etc).

  • +3

admins of this site need to address this nonsense.

  • +6

    Where's the deal?

  • +11

this is going to be downvoted..

the gamesir Nova T4 for $19 on black Friday was the best controller deal ever on ozb.

    hall effect joysticks
    compatible with PC/steamdeck/Switch/iOS/Android
USB C input/BT 5.3 and came with a wireless dongle.

NINETEEN DOLLARS for no drift stick.

    • Is it the GameSir Nova T4 Lite controller?. That's currently $32 on Amazon AU.

      • yep! I have 2 of them. They are unbelievably good for the price.

      • No, the Lite is quite different and is a wired controller.

        Connectivity:
        T4 = Wireless (2.4GHz) + Bluetooth + Wired
        T4 Lite = Wired only

        Vibration:
        T4 = Dual‑motor rumble
        T4 Lite = No vibration

        Gyro:
        T4 = 6‑axis gyro
        T4 Lite = No gyro

        RGB:
        T4 = RGB lighting
        T4 Lite = No RGB

        Compatibility:
T4 = PC, Switch, Android, iOS
T4 Lite = PC + Switch only (wired)

        • What are you talking about that's rubbish it's not wired only. It literally comes with a wireless USB dongle. That dongle allows you to use it wirelessly. So please get facts straight.

          "Model name T4 Nova Lite"

"GameSir Nova Lite wireless game controller is compatible with Windows 10/11, Switch, Android, iOS and Steam Deck.(2.4G dongle is included. Cable not included)"

    • +5

This steam controller is quite overpriced for what it is. Same goes for Xbox elite, ps dual edge etc.

    • +2

Looks like there isnt as many Valve shills here pretending like everyone cant wait to have a trackpad on a controller

8bitdo Ultimate Pro 2 is also pretty good i think around $60 on sale. that ones also TMR

For me personally I got the Dualsense 4 years ago and its still going strong. it was only $63 back then lol

      • Looks like there isnt as many Valve shills here

We're out having fun on a Friday night buddy, don't worry we'll shill all weekend long leading up to the release :)

    • +1

Yeah GameSir are good, or for a bit more expensive you can go Flydigi. $150 for this is insane.

    • -2

this is going to be downvoted

lol, the anti-rrp brigaders downvoting will be outnumbered as always

  • +5

Not really a deal is it. This is just RRP. Downvoting.

  • this will be clutch on a plane + steam deck

  • +5

Surprisingly I didnt see a post for SC even though Australian release is expected within a week.

Surprisingly, this is a site for bargains, not RRP release notifications.

  • -8

Steam Store release (rather than a 3rd-party retailer) is a deal itself. Buy some CS2 cases or whatever skin you see profitable using cash, then sell them on Steam Market for credits. This will give you a 20% to 30% saving on the credits. So in a good world, this controller probably costs around $105 to $110, which is a good price.

    • +6

put the $149 in a profitable crypto scam, sell at $10,000, buy SC, pocket the difference

      • +2

i seriously cant believe there's so many people who's promoting gambling and thinks its fine cuz its Valve lmao

        • PC gamers are forever indebted to valve for saving pc gaming from the console revolution

  • +1

    rrp

    • +2

You posted an Air Purifier for $249 when the ATL was $124 but have the audacity to neg an RRP bargain? 😂

  • -4

It's a shame the triggers are not analog for car games.

    • +4

      The triggers are analog though.

    • +4

Huh? You got me to check the reviews again because in my mind there is no way the triggers are digital. Confirmed your statement is false. The triggers are indeed analogue.

And on the Steam controller page itself:

      L & R analog triggers

  • -5

Great deal. Hopefully there is enough stock on release day.

  • +8

I will be a day 1 buyer, but I am sorry to say this is not a bargain. It's just a cool product at an acceptable RRP.

    • And yet you can buy say a Sony Dualsense controller for less. To me the RRP seems a bit inflated.

  • +3

It's going to be a great controller, I just don't need it for its price, at $99AUD I'd probably buy it as I could find a use for it, but at this price, will wait.
