  • Have always had good experiences with Intrepid. These look decent too.

  • This trip is for 18 to 35 year olds

    rude

    • Honestly, I wouldn't take any offense to it. All they are saying is that you're old.

    • Looks like the accomodation is either in sleep pods, hostels and guest-houses.

Warning for light sleepers — if you're easily woken up by noises (people snoring, bumping their way into the pods after binge drinking at the pubs) and whatnot, you'll probably want to rethink this tour package.

The itinery looks physically demanding since there is basically no 'rest day', you're min-maxing sightseeing activites. I guess they want to exclude the people who are likely going to slow the group down after getting tired from walking for an entire week.

      • I did one of their rebranded tours which covered all the same locations and more in reverse.

Lots of 8am starts, 5-6pm finishes, averaging 3 locations a day by bus.

First day was a bit rough, but most people (average age of probably 60-70) were keeping up with me the 30ish guy, we were booking night tours or going out till 9 or 10pm some nights easily.

    • They also do a number of trips using the Inspiring Vacations brand name in Japan also, look carefully at the maps that look exactly the same for the older market.

I managed to get the 15 day Inspiring Japan for only $3000ish back in November about 100 days out. Proper hotel rooms also, twin share or solo paired - I was a 30ish guy with a 70ish room mate for the tour.

  • Please remember to include critical restrictions such as the date of the trip and the traveller's age in your deal post. These restrictions severely limit the scope of the offer.

  • 9 nights is not enough time to soak up the atmosphere of Japan

  • Any of chance of getting featured in a JAV video ?

  • You can find your own private accomodation and choose your own activities for this price.

  • It's "cheap" for a reason.
It's their rain season in June. It's raining all day and everyday. They even have a term for it: 梅雨季節。
So no, better just pick other dates.

    • +1, look to go some time near maybe November, absolutely good crossover time. I started my trip on Halloween with their rebadged trip and continued through to mid month, luckily only 2 rain days.

  • Do Zoomers still do Contiki trips as a right of passage like us millennials did?

    • Yes. My boyfriend did this and (profanity) a girl on it two years ago.

      • Is he still your boyfriend?

  • Japan is being downgraded to the level of a Southeast Asian nation, banking on low-cost domestic labor to draw in foreign visitors as a means of national survival

    • Japan's tourism industry accounts for 1.3-1.5% of GDP.
      Less than Australias 1.56%.
Hardly a means of national survival.

  • looks lame. lameness aside, is it even good value for shared accom?

  • Would be ok if it included flights, but without that it's a terrible price.
Also, doing all those cities in 10 days is also terrible.
Even if you are someone who likes tours somehow and doesn't like trip planning, this one doesn't organise anything of difficulty or specialty. Literally just a few of the 'omg must visit spot in Japan' that barely even counts as planning.

  • In my opinion, Japan is one of those destinations that you can easily plan, and safely travel, on your own. Fast and clean public transport, delicious food anywhere you go, lots of things to see, etc, makes it really easy to do it yourself.

I actually planned a ski trip in only a few days as I was completely stressed out at work and needed a break. I went on 9-17 Feb 2023: Tokyo -> Matsumoto Castle - > Nagano (skiing and snow monkeys) -> Yokohama (giant gundam) -> Osaka -> then took day trips from Osaka to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe (for the beef!), Himeji Castle, and even took a Kendo class! My trip was very different/customised from the standard trips you can book with tour groups (i.e. I didn't want to go to Hiroshima), especially as I went in winter so all the castles were beautifully blanketed in snow, making for some very unique photos.

Nothing against Intrepid though. I had great experience with them on a trip to Egypt.

    • Yes, this exactly. Just get the right travel sim and work out what train passes you will need and the rest will fall into place. The larger stations will have staff who can help you get to where you want to go. First time trippers will be ok if visiting the known travel destinations. I have completed 9 holidays there, the first few were so exciting. Last holiday, no planning, no problem. By budget is always under 4k including flights. I just pre book the first stay but the rest was on the fly. Also a February traveller 🙂

  • Where's the breakdown value

    • $4400 for ten days of accommodation for two people. You get to share with a stranger.

  • i wish i am that young

  • OP, it's spelled Dotonbori, not Dotombori.

Place names in Japan are confusing enough without adding spelling errors.

For example, Kanazawa is an area in Tokyo where the Japanese Royal Family live. It's also a city hundreds of kilometres away, on the other side of the island of Honshu. And if you mis-type a single letter, Kanagawa is another area again.

  • Rip

  • Why on earth would you stay in a pod hotel in Kanazawa?

You can get an excellent hotel room there for only $130 a night.
