nbn FTTP or HFC 500/50 $50/Month for 6 Months (New Customers, $90/Month Ongoing, $0 FTTP Upgrade for FTTN/FTTC) @ amaysim

3641

My 12 month NBN plan was coming to an end, so I just signed up to this Amaysim NBN 500 promo. Solid price for anyone churning.

Deal highlights:

• NBN 500 (FTTP/HFC only — most homes on FTTN and FTTC can change to FTTP to get this deal)
• $50/month for the first 6 months
• Reverts to $90/month afterwards
• Can be reduced to $80/month ongoing if bundled with an active Amaysim SIM plan
• No lock in contract
• Unlimited data
• Runs on the Optus wholesale network
• BYO router or purchase separately

If you're on FTTP/HFC and doing the usual 6 month churn, this is a straightforward option with no RSP fluff. Good value for the first 6 months, especially if you’re already in the Amaysim ecosystem.

Glad I didn't pull the trigger for moose. This is a lot cheaper.

    • I pulled the trigger… Wonder if this deal will still be available in 30 days?

    • +5

all of these are month on month, doesnt matter if u pulled trigger, you can just pull it again

  • +4

thanks, been sitting on superloop for a while at full price
churned fully within 30 mins - nice

    • +5

Don't you have to serve 30 days notice at superloop ?

      • will see what comes through cancellation wise, worst case i'll call and threaten the ombudsman line.
Irrespective its $45 a month cheaper for 6 months so had to happen

        • So ombudsman is going to go against the terms and conditions now?

          • +4

@TomGum: read as much here from other people who have done the same

          • +5

@TomGum: Alright, so terms and conditions say you need to sacrifice your first born if you cancel within the first 30 days. You going to go against the terms and conditions now?

              • +2

@TomGum: No, the point is just because it's in the terms and conditions/contract, doesn't make it legal or enforceable.

So you’re saying you’re going to use the unfair contract clause and get out of the agreement?

Yep, I've done exactly that with Leaptel who also "require" 30 day cancellation notice.

          • +1

@TomGum: I threatened and they waved the 30 days. I initially did it online and the superloop bot acknowledged they can't charge me for a service not provided. Saved a copy of the chat and then threatened to go to ACCC if they charged me. They didn't.

            • @tman2020: I just tried this a few minutes ago, speaking with a live agent, threatened to take them to the TIO, and that it's against ACL, they didn't care and said I will be charged until the 17th June, the full 30 days as per their terms and conditions.

        • -6

Why ombudsman if it's written in the T&C. Take the loss and move on.

          • +16

@d86: Superloop is not legally allowed to charge for a service that they aren't providing (if you switch within that 30days). Even if you signed their t&c, it is not a valid t&c when it's not compliant to Australian law. Just tell them that you'll escalate the issue to ACCC and TIO, and they will refund you the 30 day cancellation fee.

I have never done this myself before as I dont churn nbn, but thought i'd share this information as i've come across it quite a few times.

Here's a video that explains this well. https://www.instagram.com/reels/DR6dKbUkxGp/

            • +4

@CaptOblivious: Yup did this a few months ago and didn't even get to the stage of threatening the TIO. They pushed back with their T&C and I simply stated that I should not be getting charged for a service they are no longer providing. This must have been trigger words to them because they did a 180 just like that and all of a sudden they were cancelling an invoice and crediting me a couple of days I was charged for.

              • @donkcat: yep, this works. The TIO has updated guidance this year.
They will fluff you around with the T&C's initially, but if you make it clear that the T&C's are unfair and not as per ACL as interpreted by the TIO they fold.

          • +8

@d86: The T&C is there for people who won't question it or understand Australia's strong consumer protections. It's like warranties, under consumer law the warranty or extended warranty is meaningless, all items must last a reasonable life.

I've always had my cancellation fees refunded.

        • Or do what I did and change your credit card to Revolut with not enough cash in it.

          • @sween64: I thought you pay in advance for NBN, so they will not issue refund if cancel earlier.

            • +3

@huntabargain: Yes but because SL have 30 days notice in their T&C's it'll add another month. For example your current month ends on 10th May. You notify them on 3rd May. They'll charge you again on the 11th May because your account cancellation won't take affect until 2nd June.

I just had my SL billing issue resolved. I had been speaking with their accounts team and got nowhere. I raised a complain and "as a gesture of goodwill" they waived the ~$93 they were tring to charge me.

            • @huntabargain: You know ball

        • Just change the payment method to a card with no balance

        • +1

Irrespective its $45 a month cheaper for 6 months so had to happen

churned fully within 30 mins - nice

Wouldn't it just be a lot less effort then spending 30mins once every 6months than the effort to be on hold then offshore to threaten going to the ombudsman and saving $45 a month all at the same time :P

      • I'm not at all familiar with switching RSPs but would another option be to do it yourself manually. So close your Superloop service now and sit out the 30 days. Close to the 30 day expiry day, join Amaysim, say 29-30 May (deal will still be on). If instead you let Amaysim handle the switch for a connection date of 29-30 May, they may not advise Exetel until then who means there is a danger of the 30 days starting from 29-30 May?

      • I just had an argument with Superloop over this. I actually gave them notice a month ago via chat that I wanted to cancel. Apparently to them, not even that is enough. They tried to call me to confirm it, which of course I did not answer as they had already wasted enough of my time and who answers Spam calls? To them, I had not given notice because of that one failed call. Ridiculous.

    • @Lonewolf1983

U got connected in 30 minutes?
I am with More and they have odd monthly cycles month vs dif cycle for payment ,so just checking

Trying to avoid paying double,as More dont do pro rata refunds

      • yeah ordered and then within 30 minutes was churned, restarted NTU and back online with amaysim

  • Cheaper than origin. Nice

  • Was literally just looking for a new plan as my Dodo 6 months is up. Thanks for the link, great deal!

  • +1

do they use the wholesale company that superloop and origin and such uses, or the crap one with packet loss issues?

    • Optus wholesale network.

      • +1

        Isnt that their mobile network?

        • I believe it's both their mobile and NBN wholesale.

  • Paying 60 atm. Will call and findout if they can give discount

  • +1

Hows the international connection with Amaysim? I've been with many ISPs who route traffic in such a way that turns a 120ms connection into a 350ms connection.

    • +5

If they're using the Optus network then yeah it'll be bad international pings.

      • +4

Confirming it is terrible. I won’t be using it again even at this price

        • Yeah, total crap, to get from west coast USA to east coast USA, it routes via Singapore!

          • @tranmerlance: How crap are we talking here? Im on superloop and get 100-120ms to asian gaming servers and about 200-300ms for US servers. I usually play oceanic servers but for games like Gray Zone warfare I use Asia because Oceanic is 300ms+ for some reason 🤷‍♂️

            • +1

@Tythefly86: Do a tracert to your game server ip. That's how people find out these bizarre routing paths

I'm on Origin nbn (superloop backbone) and it's actually very good. By the sound of things I wouldn't switch from superloop if I were you

            • +1

@Tythefly86: I was getting unplayable 250ms to Singaporean servers which is more than double when I was with Dodo (120ms). I didn't even last a day before I churned to Superloop (which is also 120ms).

              • @CVonC: Thanks for letting me know. I'll pass on this then. I only have a month or two left on $65/mth with superloop so Im just keeping my eye out for a good churn.

    • +3

Optus have a looking glass so you can get an idea of how they route your traffic https://looking-glass.optus.net.au/

    • +1

$50 per month? Understand it's fast with premium?

      • -6

        Free :D

    • My hard drive can't even sustain that speed.

    • +2

how did you get it for $50 per month? link or coupon please. Or you just gloating.

  • +1

How do you switch your modem over to another ISP?

    • The ISP will usually tell you through their website FAQs. Or just call them.

      • How straightfoward is it? I don't want to switch over and then be without internet because something isn't working right.

        • I switched to Dodo and my Belong 4353 modem was not compatible even though a list I found shows they are. It is the only time I have had an issue.

        • Who is your current ISP?

          • @Twix: Kogan. Using Kogan modem too.

            • +2

@MrZ: You probably have to login to your router and change it from PPPoE to IPoE for amaysim.

    • +1

For FttP I've never had to do a thing, it just auto reconnects

      • I'm on HFC.

        • HFC I'm not 100% sure but I assume it's similar - you just kind of restart everything when it goes off and you're up and running.

        • +4

I'm on HFC and it just all works automatically. All I do is sign up with the new provider and the changeover just happens.

        • +2

Most hfc connections are now IPoE rather than pppoe and vlan tagging from the old days. So no configuration necessary between ipoe providers

  • +1

How far in the future can connection date be? I already have 53.50 6 months lined up later this month from Spintel, will they allow >6months in the future?

    • +6

I'm signing up now and can see Amaysim will only allow upto 1 month ahead as a scheduled date

    • +1

Me too in the same about. Don't want to miss the current NBN Origin offer (500 Mbps plan).

      • Origin offer expired or you already connected to them? I am currently with Amaysim on $60 which expire in one month.

        • Already signed up more than a month ago.

    • $50/month for the first 6 months, including the $30 NBN MAYHEM Sale and $10 Intro Offer (NBN MAYHEM Sale offer ends 31st May), then $90/month thereafter, unless bundled at $80/month with an active amaysim SIM plan. New services only. T&Cs apply.

    • same question. I'd like to sign up by May 31 but start the connection in late June

  • My Tangerine NBN service month has just started but I haven’t been billed yet. Does Tangerine pro-rate if I cancel?

    • no they don't - I just churned and they said specifically a full month bill won't be refunded. which sucks.. :(

      • Why didn't you future date your amaysim connection until your cycle ends?

  • any churn plans for nbn on the 2G plans with deals?

    • Superloop and Leaptel.

      • ta! not very competitive yet eh pricing, one can only hope it goes down in the future!

        • 2000Mbps is unlikely to get cheaper for a few years.

nbn wholesale price for FY27 (before the ISP adds their own costs).
          2000/100 and 2000/200 $119.04/m.
          2000/500 $154.99/m.

          • @Twix: fair enough! any chance they can go beyond the 2G speeds?

            • @reece8: Faster speeds are not expected until 2031 at the earliest.

              • +4

@Twix: unreal backwater we live in, just got back from Singapore and their top tier plan is 10G for under $100 a month!

                • @reece8: I didn't believe you for a second. I just assumed you made a mistake and so just did some research and you're 100% right! Actually there are numerous 10Gbps symmetrical plans available for $34 AUD/month and they even throw in a Wifi7 router. Wild!
