ShopBack Agoda Pay Later Tracked as $0. Will Cashback Update after Payment?

Hi everyone, I made an Agoda hotel booking through ShopBack, but I chose "pay later" instead of paying at the time of booking.

The transaction is tracked in ShopBack, but the amount is currently showing as $0.

Has anyone had the same experience?

After I complete the stay and pay for the booking later, will ShopBack update the tracked amount and calculate the cashback correctly?

I haven’t changed or cancelled the booking after it was tracked.

    Also, what did the T&Cs say?

    • Thanks. I haven’t contacted ShopBack yet because the booking is only just tracked, and the stay is still a few months away.

      From what I can see, the T&Cs say the booking must be made online through ShopBack and cannot be changed or cancelled after tracking. I couldn’t find anything clearly saying that Pay Later bookings are excluded.

  • Yes, it will apply few days after you checkout.

    Keep in mind, I have done this and it's a 50/50 chance it will apply.

    I had to follow up and give them receipts that I actually stayed at the hotel and checked out

    So I wouldn't get my hopes up.

    I also noticed the prices are sometimes more expensive when you activate a cashback offer. So I either gamble on the cashback or just book the cheaper rate without the cashback offer.

    • Can't say I've ever had any track at $0, have always shown roughly the expected value even when choosing to pay later (on the booking site, not at the hotel)

      But yeh cashback can definitely affect prices. I've even had some suddenly become unavailable after clicking through a cashback site that had a higher bonus rate. Still If prices are similar sometimes there is the benefit to pay later or cancel up until a few days if direct booking requires upfront payment.

      And yes, I noticed the same thing — the price was slightly higher when I went through the cashback site. I still booked that way because I was expecting to receive the cashback, so it would be really disappointing if it doesn’t get approved.

  • I made an Expedia booking via shopback and it did not track. After a few days, i lodged a request to investigate. Unfortunately, shopback CS is not very helpful and kept asking me to wait until stay is finished. There's no guarantee if and how much cash back they will pay. The reply is just a standard wait til trip is finished which is unacceptable.

    @gotyourback is a shopback rep in ozbargain. He/she is pretty helpful and responsive to assist in shopback related queries. Unfortunately, the assistance will go back to issue ticket (which goes back to CS). I think in the past, problems can be solved quicker without CS getting involved.

    May be you can contact him/her to get some assistance. As I said, pretty helpful but unfortunately assistance will go back to the ticket.

      I haven’t lodged a missing cashback request yet, but I might try contacting @gotyourback and see if they can provide any guidance.

      I understand that the cashback may only be confirmed after the stay is completed, but it’s frustrating that the transaction didn’t track in the first place, and there’s no clear indication of whether it will be approved or how much cashback I may receive.

      Hopefully it can be sorted out after checkout, but I’ll keep all the booking details, screenshots and receipts just in case I need to follow up later.

      • Yeah, i share your frustration especially it s a rather big cashback for hotel bookings.

        In the past, they're usually pretty quick in investigating and put the right cashback on track. Now, the CS just asked to wait and kick the can down the road. Wonder, if CS now is outsourced tbh…

  • Shopback is extremely painful. I went on a trip back in November and booked two hotels via Expedia and Agoda. Expedia did not track and I had to chase it down, after lot of struggle it was approved. Today, Agoda was rejected with status "purchase cancelled". I never cancelled anything, nor modified the booking…

    In fact, I think this is how they operate. They are hoping people will forget after 120 days or not bother to ask for review. Their chatbot is a joke, I asked it escalate and it went into an endless loop.

    I never had issues with good old Cashrewards - had more than $1k in cashback value and never had to create support tickets with them.
