This one is designed for motherboards with power connectors facing the back (e.g. https://www.amazon.com.au/ASUS-Gaming-B850-BTF-Motherboard-C…).
Main caveat is that this version does not support standard motherboards because it lacks the standard cable routing cutouts (e.g. side cutouts for the 24 pin motherboard cable).

Wish they'd make a compact version of this case instead of the oversized ones already..

i really want a atx case like this, with little to no glass and FRONT FACING USB ports and power button.

  • +6

Thought this was some sort of office pod

When I was younger I would have killed for a case like this, I had everything I needed to kit it out. These days I could get the case easy but can't justify the cost of everything I'd want to put inside it.

Building a PC can be a longer term project if you're patient enough with deals.

And used parts are worth looking into as well

Not ideal. Get it all around the same time and you have the chance to return any components not working as DoA. Wait months and you'll be dealing with warranty repairs, sending components away etc.

        • Good point. For the components you can't use right away.

    Frac tail

  • Just a reminder this DOES NOT WORK on normal atx motherboards, otherwise good price

It does work. These comments are ridiculous and misinformation.

        Confidently incorrect xd

        • Eh depending on your cables you'd likely be able to feed them under the board before installation.

This case design is specific to Rear Connecter motherboards. The clue is in the model name… Fractal Design North XL RC.

This case in normal configuration can handle ATX boards no problem, which is probably where the confusion lies.

$129 is for RC model only. The "normal one" is $259.

TIL that there are motherboards with power connectors facing the back. Gee this would have same a few choice words back in the day.

  • +2

Can you not also put in a normal atx and just have a less appealing cable management? Or are the screws actually in different positions?

    • That would be like going to the toilet facing backwards though

      • If its cheap I don‘t care ngl

        • The wires usually aren’t long enough, so you’d have to buy long psu cables

          • @Kazusa: That would be a dealbreaker :/

  • +2

If this was normal ATX size I'd buy it immediately.
    Good find though…

Same, it was almost a no brainer impulse trigger pull until I read the description :(

Why are people saying this doesn't support standard 24 pin power connector when I can look on youtube and find multiple builds using the standard 24 pin power connector?

    • +1

Can you read? This is the RC version not the normal version shown in your videos, there are NO HOLES to route your cables to the front in this one on sale

      • +1

Nothing a hole saw can't fix

    • +2

It's still the same 24pin ATX power connector and EPS/CPU 8pin connector/s, however this case is designed to support motherboards where the standard power connectors are on the backside/bottom of the PCB instead of the "parts side" where they normally are.

Also, you are looking at the regular North XL not this "RC" one.

  • Man the design is so niche that the normal North XL price is ~$100 more than this 'RC' version? Wtf??

At ~$230 aren't you better of with a H9 Flow (45°angle front fan panel) or a Thermaltake View 380XL instead?

    • Whats the difference between H6 Flow and H9 Flow?

      • Size mainly. H9's top pannel has better clearance for bigger AIO Radiators.

  • Have this case, highly recommend.
Can be a bit cramped compared to other cases but well built overall and good value

  • Looks to me like an matx board would allow you to use the bottom gap for cables

  • I have the black one of this and it's a great case
