Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old Single Malt Whisky 700ml $95 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ Dan Murphy's

180

You can buy multiple bottles and stack the “$30 off $200 spend” deal. I grabbed one from my local store, and the staff mentioned it was the last bottle available.

Would love to hear feedback from anyone who’s picked this up during previous promos—worth stocking up?

From the Dan Murphy’s website:

Dalwhinnie has the highest elevation of all the distillers in Scotland and is able to take advantage of the cleanest springwater available. Dalwhinnie has a smokey, floral aroma and a delicate palate of heather and honed malt. A serious Whisky, yet approachable to the beginners.

The most overrated overpriced whisky that is out there

  • $95?! Going to Japan has ruined me, good whisky over there by the bottle is $15 aud. Even the $7 bottles compare to the basic whiskys here that cost $40 a bottle

    • What whisky costs $40 here

      • the cheap & nasty ones

It's a long time since I've had any but I enjoyed it. Complex but delicate is my recollection. I don't know that I'd buy more than one bottle though – there's so much good whisky out there.

    • @boozed: What are your top 3–5 whiskies that won’t break the bank but are actually better than the overhyped ones?

      • I wouldn't consider myself an authority, but I've bought more than a few Scotch whiskies and I remain enthusiastic about Aberlour, Glenmorangie and Talisker. They're easy to find, their ranges are almost universally good, each distillery has excellent (and good value!) entry level malts, with a whole range of more adventurous expressions to explore.

I recommend these three in particular because their 10/12yo expressions are good quality examples of what I see as the three broad Scotch whisky styles. Glenmorangie's base malt and maturation is very clean and delicate, Aberlour makes sherry cask finishes part of its identity and does them very well, while Talisker does peat in a way that I think is quite approachable.

Yeah, Aberlour is one of my fav as well, got 2x 1L bottles for $150 at Melbourne Airport when returning from Bali, was such a great deal. Glenmorangie is nice as well and often on discount. Thanks for sharing.
