The coil whine model - are there better alternatives?

    • Thanks for saying, I might have bought this otherwise

Hi @ExPrinceHairy, none currently with us at this price point. the coil whine issue was reported on some earlier batches, the unit we’re selling is current Australian stock. Haven’t had any reports of that from our customers. Happy to exchange or claim under warranty if you do run into it though.
      Cheers

      • I bought one from OfficeWorks about 15 months ago - sometimes I still get the coil whine. However, it's only noticeable when I'm working at night.
The only complaint is the wattage of the two USB-A ports - suitable for watches/headsets only, or to charge only one phone overnight.

Got 3 of these . None had any such issue.
Although never purchased from this seller before.
      Let’s see .
Given sellers’ comments here, I might agree.
Maybe earlier batches but none of my 3 , purchased in last 2 years have any coil whine.

      • Yeah I have 2 and never heard any coil whine. News to me this is a thing.

Could be individual, some people hearing more sensitive at higher frequency than others.

        • +1

I have quite high sensitivity to sound. Hear the whine in lots of things. Annoyingly my bedside lamp recently, but not in this device. As OP said, might have been early batches only.

      • Agreed. No coil whine. Purchased from OW 1.5 years ago. Still going strong.

    • I had coil whine with this one, and switched to a ugreen nexode 4 100W charger - no complaints about it. It is $66 delivered from amazon vs $54.95 for this one though.

  • Is there anything worth getting to boost up to $100?

  • What’s the gift? Can you insert in an additional usb c port pls

    • Hi @vos0003, It’s a mini dock with HDMI, ethernet, USB ports, fits in your pocket. Useful on a desk or when travelling. On the extra USB-C port, that’s Belkin’s design so we can’t change it on our end, but the two USB-C PD ports both handle high wattage so most setups are covered.
      Cheers

Mine just died unexpectedly after just over 2 years. Bit disappointed.

    • what's their typical failure mode?

      • What do you mean? It just doesn't work anymore.

        • +3

Isn't that the best fail mode?

        • I just mean was there any signs before the failure that indicated perhaps why, just curious as I haven't heard of these dying (if not DOA) or after like 5+ years.

          • @chid: Yeah, nothing at all prior to it going. Just stopped working last week. Can't get a thing out of it now.

It's plugged into a surge protector, so o don't imagine it was a line/grid problem, but anyway.

Hi @looks, I would love to help however unfortunately we don’t have the black in stock. Apologies.
      Kind regards,
      Travis

  • An alternative…..Satechi 108w for $54.99

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B084RXYMJX

    • Even cheaper with amazon business - $52.24.

But the reviews are a bit mixed, some complain of it not properly charging macbooks (constant disconnect+reconnect).

Looks good for me, but my mum doesn’t like it

  • +2

A different Mother's Day present, for the tech mums out there.

  • ordered a second one. I like it and use it for work

  • If I have something plugged in to C1, then plug something in to C2. Does C1 stop and start charging to re-negotiate the power draw?
