    • I got it for 159 or 169 last year, think it was black Friday

    • I've got the one from Kmart and is really good for the price.

nah, gone through a couple of poor quality Kmart fans over several years vs my one 𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙘𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧 still going strong. Worth the money……….. 𝘪𝘮𝘰

  • Do I need it?

  • Compared to the Large 660 version, when both are running at their highest settings, the 660

    Is quieter (54 dB)
    Uses less power (38 W)
Is more powerful (30.5 m² coverage)
    Costs the same

So isnt it a no brainer to go with the 660?

    • Is the difference AC vs DC? This should use less power and generally more reliable https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/x7psve/vornad…

Missing the point entirely, the DC can be very quiet at lower speeds and use next to no power at that setting, the AC version will always howl as they can't go slow.

You're paying for a much wider range of operating speeds.

But if you're running it at a low speed, you should be using a $15 pedestal fan from big w instead.

Low power usage, extremely quiet…. and… Low up front cost.

Have you plugged in a power meter to your $15 AC fan? I think you'd be surprised. Mine uses ~20x more power than my Vornado does on its lowest setting. It's not even close.

The AC fan also doesn't go anywhere near as low, the quietest setting is still loud.

  • "Permanently" $171.20 at GGC if you have an ABN

The plastic on this fan is horrible and turns a stained yellow colour after a few years

  • Anything similar quality to this but speed can be controlled with Home Assistant? Would rather have the option of speed control as well not just have it switch on and off.

Great machine. We've got a handful of them, one of them supplied via smart plug had been running more than 1650hrs since 2021 - it hasnt been cleaned and is dusty but still starts up fine and runs like a pro. 660 looks great and we have one too but cant automate with smart plugs. As most produx with non-slip feet stickers, they tend to come off if you move them/drag them around too much.

    • I agree and another aspect of air circulators that people forget (atleast the vornado ones) is that it can also be used in winter. Keep it at a low setting pointed at the ceiling vents and it will help push the hot air down and warm your room a lot faster.

  • This or the pedestal version?

Air circulator = just a fan with a fancy name.

    • Ferrari = just a car with a big engine.

There's a huge amount of engineering that goes into designing fans for specific applications, and you intuitively know this because you wouldn't use an industrial warehouse fan in your bedroom on hot summer nights.

I can personally vouch for the fact that my Vornado moves a larger volume of air much further than my $15 kmart fan does.

      • Actually I have both, and I have to agree with tasty. The kmart $15 fan is just as good at circulating fan, not to mention it oscillate as well. The vornado might have bigger motor and push more air at max speed, but at quiet speed, on the same audio level, the $15 fan push more air. Let's be real, we probably bought this because of the cool branding. And as for circulating air is concerned, getting an industrial floor fan probably would be best value compared to this.

        • Branding had nothing to do with mine, I bought it when I moved into a rental with only a lounge AC and needed to be able to push cold air around. I'd previously seen one in action at a friends place with a similar setup and was impressed at how well it worked. The fact it can run low and quiet when you don't need to move a lot of air just adds to the versatility, whereas if I'd gotten an industrial fan to do that job it would've gone in hard rubbish long ago.

  • How does this perform vs the shark flexbreeze hydrogo? Wondering if the hydrogo will be sufficient for a 9m2 bedroom converted to office room.

  • was waiting for this deal for a month since I missed the last time. Ended up finding one at a garage sale for 5 bucks last Saturday. Bit of cleaning up and as good as new!
