What would the gelato flavours that Messina had in 2002?

    • +1

      Neapolitan? 😄

    • +3

When they say the “items”, they’re not referring to flavours, they’re referring to the products, as in the scoop sizes. The website specifically says they aren’t discounting single scoops because they didn’t sell them in 02.

      • What a glorious time to eat ice cream.

      • +4

Thanks! Thought they’re referring to the flavours

    • +2

      Sundried tomato and pesto

  • Would love to know which flavours are included in this promotion.

By the way, their gelatos are really good.

    • +1

Would be all their regular and special flavours, specials depending on stock

  • +1

    Only in Darlinghurst store?

    • +1

Think it's just talking about it first store, not that it's exclusive to that store. Will be able to easily check tomorrow.

  • +2

Any surcharge in QLD tomorrow for the public holiday?

    • +4

Even with the surcharge is dirt cheap

  • +3

There goes my diet for May

  • It's Labour Day in BNE tomorrow, nothing open lol

    • +3

      Messina is open

  • Ayye brought to you by the loving Jill Stein!

    • +5

      What are you talking about?

      • Mistaken identity. Her husband co-owns Gelatissimo chain

    • +4

I’ll enjoy my gelato, you enjoy your downvotes

      • -2

I'm pretty surprised I'm this downvoted. This was literally a pro free PTV comment

  • +3

And since there are 2 stores within a short walk of where I live, I will be there every Monday in May :)

Such ridiculously good ice cream. They have a farm with their own cows to produce their own milk, they even made their own hazelnut farm just to maintain a high-quality of hazelnuts. This price is a steal.

    • +4

Except the double pistachio one, with both rich pistachio gelato and toasted pistachio pralines. That ones awful. Definitely not the best ice cream an ice cream fanatic has ever tasted. Nobody it eat please. Make sure it doesn't run out…

      • +2

Haven’t tried that one before, but you’ve absolutely convinced me to not try it tonight @ this discounted price

      • eh, I didn't mind it

  • How many flavours can you choose for the 0.5L and 1L tubs?

    • +4

      3 for 0.5L and 4 for 1 L

  • Can anyone update if they go to the Surfers Paradise store as to whether they are participating in this on the public holiday today. Thanks!

    • +1

Their IG says their fortitude valley one (Brisbane) is reduced hours, so maybe the same for surfers Paradise? Not too sure though

      • South Brisbane confirmed they are participating, but 15% surcharge today.

I’ll set a reminder to go next Monday when there is no surcharge.

    • +1

      Yep, open until 10pm

      • Thanks!

  • +1

Their Instagram says that it's all stores, not just the Darlinghurst one. The copy on their website is a bit confusing

Tip: if you live nearby to a shop or bring a freezer bag, the best bang for your buck is the 3 scoops for $4.80.

I purchased 4 x 3 scoops and asked for each 3 scoop to be put in a takeaway tub.

Just got back home and did some measurements:
    1. Each tub weighs 22.5g and has a volume of 475ml
    2. Each tub was filled with between 290g and 350g of ice cream - giving an average weight of 320g (really depends on the person scooping if you get more or less than me)
    3. This works out to me getting the equivalent 0.5L tub for $6.40 instead of $10 (yes i know some people might say 1g does not equal 1ml, but the 475ml tub was about 70-80% full, so the figures still stack up)

    • -1

      Agreed…..just a tiny correction though it's not ice cream it's gelato 😁

    • Loved that someone did the calculations I had in mind!!!!

Thank you very much! Those tubs come with lid?

      • Yes it comes with lids. Its the same size as the free milkrun tubs last week.

    • If you just go by the rough estimate of the volume, what's the equivalent volume you get from 3 scoops?

      • 70-80% of 475ml

        • So let's assume the worst case you got 330ml for $4.8. 1000ml is roughly $14, which is still cheaper than the $18 1L pack.

    • Agreed on this, I got the 0.5L and I think 2 x 3 scoop has way more.

    • Hey @cheapm8 thanks for sharing. Where did you get your takeaway tubs from? Can you share a link or a photo? Or are they provided by Messina?

      • Provided by Messina. For my local store they were not displayed anywhere. The staff grabbed them from under the bench.

        • I had no idea they did that! Cheers

    • I also tried this myself. I got 2 x 3 scoops net weigh about 620 gram. Density for vanilla flavour is about 0.85g/ml. So assuming the worst case you got 300 g per cup, price per litre for 3 scoops is around $13.6. Definitely bring your own esky lol

  • 0.5l tub (3 flavours, any flavour) was actually $9.50. (Surry hills)

  • The queue is long.

  • I wish I could post the photo of the queue in Darlinghurst

    • +2

The queue went up to the light rail lines at Circular Quay https://postimg.cc/TLZcDpjt
This was at 9pm. Shop closes at 10:30pm
Went all around the shop at Martin place.

Maybe a 20min wait at the longest. Don't expect all the flavours to be available.

This isn't the longest I've seen the queue. Go there at Vivid or New Years and they'll have the poles & ropes out just like busy airports.

  • Got notified by the app around lunch time and drove down to the Bright le Sands (NSW) store. No queue. Picked up 3L of pistachio, hazelnut, peanut butter praline. Dessert sorted for the month! Or if not, can go buy more each Monday!

Seems like all stores participating, and all flavours included. The only limitations are which containers you can buy: 2 scoop, 3 scoop, 0.5L tub, 1L tub.

Love the good gesture from the folks from Messina.

  • Ridiculous lineup at the Kent Town SA store tonight and all the people were in the rain. Went for Yo Chi instead.

    • I went last night after going out for dinner, probably took 20-25 mins waiting in line

      • I went when it first opened and was disappointed but there was no lines but now with the restaurant next door it seems like a trend. bottega kicks the living shit out of messina

  • SA ran out of tubs

    • -1

Not true. The North Adelaide store had tubs on the shelves behind them. After waiting 39 mins in line and asking for a 1L tub, was immediately told no stores are doing tubs. Personally, I just think they couldn't be arsed. Filling a tub takes far less time than those time-wasters going in there asking to try at least 5 different flavours.

They had a sign on the counter with the scoop/tub pricing. They made no attempt to cover the tubs or place a sold out beside them. Not good enough.

  • Thanks for the info OP.

    Added to their T&C:

T&Cs: Messina Mondays pricing applies every Monday in May to selected in-store purchases only. Max 1 tub (of any size) per transaction. Discounted items are listed on the counter price list. Offer is subject to availability, if a listed tub size is unavailable, the discounted price cannot be applied to another size or product.

    Also added:

    • 1 Flavour - $3.80 (for those of you who just want one scoop, we've added this back to the Messina Monday's menu from week 2 after your feedback!)
  • The queue in Richmond is 100 metres deep. Only one person serving.

    • +2

      Same story at South Brisbane

      • Not worth the time to save $5

  • South Brisbane line is a joke literally around the corner of the block.

    Fortitude Valley any better?

    • Not that bad. I went at 11:50 and there were about 50 people in front of me and 30 people behind me. Got slightly worse after I left. I can only assume this evening it would be wild!!! Took me 50 minutes to get to the front and get my tub and 3-scoops. Wish you could have bought more tubs as I would have copped 4.

      • +1

So basically you need to go when they open :)

        • that or get someone in the line to buy you a tub. So many people lined up just for 2-3 scoops. I should have asked a few to buy a tub on my behalf.

  • Anyone going to try their luck today?

    • Nealry 90mins for me today, from 4.15 to 5.35pm waiting.

      • +1

I went around 2:30pm and waited waited 35 mins

        • I think just after, that's when all the kids and parents showed up. I'm shocked to hear you had to wait that long at 14:30hrs. I was still in line when they ran out of 1L boxes. Still only limit of one ½L per person.
