We had one of the little portable ones that you put on a coffee table. It was more a gimmick than anything else. Getting the ethanol was more of an issue, so not sure how you'd go getting bulk quantities and storing it safely for the fireplace.

Not interested in the ash, dust, and can't really install a chimney in a town house.

We have ducted air-conditioning, but I like the idea of watching and sitting by a warm fire in winter.
