βš™οΈ How it works
  1. Check your phone is unlocked and eSIM-compatible
Tip: dial *#06# and look for an EID number.

  2. Choose the plan that suits your trip; roaming eSIMs can be topped up/extended - local eSIMs can't.

  3. Checkout with the code most suited to your order or use the auto-apply links:
    https://bamboosim.com/en/travel-esims?tab=local&discount=MAY…

  4. Install via QR code or one-tap installation link. Refer to your welcome email for roaming/APN instructions if applicable (not required for local eSIMs).

  5. Turn the eSIM on when you arrive at your destination. For Vietnam's MobiFone eSIM, please call 900 then press 1 to finalise activation. All other eSIMs activate automatically.

Notes
  • Prices are in AUD and may vary slightly due to FX.
  • Travel eSIMs are data-only unless stated otherwise.
  • Device must be unlocked and eSIM-compatible.
  • Network speed depends on local coverage, congestion, device, and selected plan.
  • For Japan unlimited eSIMs, validity runs until 11:59pm Japan time on the final day.

  • Nice, Leaving to vietnam soon, those data daily limits if they are exceeded is the speed simply slowed down? or no data until it resets?

    • +1

      Hi Gomo!

At this time both Viettel and MobiFone will generally cut data access altogether (or limit to 128kbps at most) until just after midnight when the limit resets. If you're a heavy user, I'd suggest setting a cap in Settings to let you know when you've used a few GB (depending on the plan you select) so that you know if you're nearing that limit. The highest daily cap we have at the moment is the 8GB/day for 15 days with MobiFone which is great for city areas - otherwise I'd recommend looking at a Viettel 5GB/day for 7/15/30 days if you're travelling a bit outside the city or otherwise want the comfort of being on the top network with the most coverage.

      • No worries thanks for that, I'll be sure to keep my phone settings updated so it is aware to notify me, otherwise looks like you have an app that shows data as well :)

        • +1

We do have both our web and mobile apps, yep! Just a heads up that Viettel plans don't currently support us checking data usage remotely. We hope this will change in the future, but at the moment it's a local product limitation unfortunately. That said, they will send you an SMS when you've hit the cap - so you'll know when it happens, but sadly just not in advance (aside from via your own settings).

          • @BambooSIM: Noted cheers for the insight!

            • +1

@Gomo: Any time! It's still a solid product either way - we use them during our own visits too!

  • What is (was?) the free gift? :O

    • +1

last time i bought with them, it was a small snack or drink, i'd guess between 100-300yen worth, nothing significant but a nice bonus i guess

    • +1

      Hi kwchaz!

This time around there's a choice between these 3:
      - Ice no Mi Grape Muscat
      - Machi Cafe Hot Coffee (S)
      - Iced Coffee (S)

We had a 4th item but sadly it's no longer available due to supply issues. If that changes, it'll be updated on the voucher.

      • Thanks for the info. I suspect I won't be eligible as I am electing for delayed delivery to much later this year, but oh well!

        • This specific promo does end on June 30th - but we believe another batch of offerings may be available later in the year (as soon as July/August), and would hope to have something covering the end of year too!

I'd recommend checking in with our team via chat/email/ticket just before you leave; we'll let you know if there's any active promotions at that point in time.

  • 🎁 Free T-money cards is also offered if we order esim

    • It sure is! We'll make that a bit clearer in the post :)

  • Are the SK sims Data only or do they also come with a number that can be used with apps that require mobile numbers?

    • +1

Great question - and another thing we'll get updated in the post!

All eSIMs/physical SIMs come with a local 010 number. By default, they're data-only, but if you complete passport KYC (either online or by visiting one of the SK Telecom Roaming hubs at the 4 international airports), then calling and texting will be enabled. Just to note: to make calls/texts, you'll need to recharge credit. Receiving is free.

The advice we have from SKT is that the number generally can't be used for KakaoTalk verification specifically (they recommend setting up an account using your Aussie number before you leave) - but otherwise you shouldn't have any issues.

      • Are numbers unique? I've previously seen an issue where a local 010 number received after KYC verification had already been used to register with an app.

        • +1

          Hi yyeon,

I've just checked with our good friends at SKT - they've advised me that the numbers are recycled by all carriers on all plan types due to a limited number of numbers being available in the country. However, they aren't immediately recycled - there's a strict "grace period" implemented after a number is cancelled to ensure sufficient time for previous records to be cleared before the number is assigned to someone new. That process is managed at a national level to ensure as "fresh" of an experience as possible for the next user. Hope this helps!

Took advantage of one of the previous posts when I went to Japan a couple months ago, it connected to the au network over there, worked great!

    • Thanks swingingudders, we're really pleased to hear that! The KDDI (au) local eSIMs are certainly one of our best sellers, and as our partners continue to invest heavily in local infrastructure (particularly 5G), we hope to continue the partnership between BambooSIM x KDDI for many years to come!

    • Agreed, used one from a previous deal in Japan last week and it was flawless

      • +1

Thanks so much for your feedback, whitelunchbag!

  • Can I buy them now and use them next month or do they get activated right away?

    • Hi ra3m3!

Depends which product you're referring to, and how you purchase:

      • Japan eSIMs need to be activated and fully consumed within 180 days from the purchase date (so next month is fine). If you were travelling outside of that window, we have a 'delayed delivery' feature which you can use to have your eSIM delivered any time within 365 days, and thus start the 180 day clock from that new date.
      • Vietnam Viettel eSIMs need to be activated within 30 days - but we have the same delayed delivery feature available. If you're travelling next month, I'd recommend choosing a delivery date a few days before your trip.
      • Vietnam MobiFone eSIMs need to be activated within 180 days from the purchase date
      • South Korea SKT Unlimited eSIMs need to be activated within 365 days of purchase
      • All other eSIMs on our site (roaming eSIMs) need to be activated within 365 days of purchase

Let me know if you need a hand with setting up delayed delivery or have any other questions!

      • Thanks. I don't see an option to set delayed delivery. But, if I have 180 days (MobiFone) to activate I might just buy it.

        • If it's for MobiFone then yep, you've got 180 days for activation anyway, so activating next month will be fine. I believe our team is looking into offering the Delayed Delivery option for more products in the near future.

Just a heads up: we always recommend installing the eSIM before you travel. The MobiFone eSIM in particular does require manual activation when you land in Vietnam (you'll need to dial 900 and press 1). Other than that, you should be all set!

      • Thanks, does that mean the Asia Pacific Region eSIM has 365 days until activation?

        • +1

That's correct - you can install and activate the eSIM at any time within 365 days from the purchase date!

Activation is automatic when you switch on the eSIM in a destination country and have the roaming/APN settings configured depending on your device type (more info on this is available in the welcome email we send).

If you're not planning to use the eSIM within Australia, just be sure to keep the "Include Australia" tickbox unticked before you place your order!

  • We are planning to do 25 days trip to Japan, however will be going Jeju Island in between for 6 days. Do i need to buy 2 esims?

    • Hi kwanq!

At the moment, that would be the best way to go about it - however, installation is generally as easy as scanning the QR code and following the prompts - and switching between the eSIMs can be done quickly in Settings as well (turn on one, turn off the other).

Just a heads up: SKT eSIMs are in 24 hour blocks, so if you arrive in the morning in Jeju on day 1 and leave at night on day 6, you'd be after the 7 day plan. Japan eSIMs expire at 11:59PM JST on the last day, so either the 31 day plan (or 2 smaller plans) may be best.

If you really wanted to keep it to just 1 eSIM, that's possible too, but it'd be on our roaming plans. In that case, you'd grab a Japan or South Korea Roaming eSIM (listed as 'Rechargeable Data') and then top up the opposite country via our web portal.

  • Perfect timing OP! My daughter is off to Japan 19/10 so ordered a couple of eSIMs with delayed delivery (as they’re back 184 days from today).

    • +1

      Hi Orrelljet,

We're really pleased to hear that! The delayed delivery option is certainly one of our favourite new features the team has put together. Hope your daughter +1 have a lovely time in Japan!

  • I need a physical Sim for China trip happening 29/05/2026 and returning 17/06/2026.
Needs to be a physical Sim since my mother's phone does not support e-sim.
Could you help with this @BambooSIM

    • Hi ViperX!

As of this moment, we don't have physical SIM card stock for China specifically.

We are working on having SIM cards created and sent to Australia, but I don't have an exact date on when they'll be ready just yet. Can I confirm which city you're in? Feel free to DM this to us if you prefer - just so we know if you're local or we'll need to ship it out to you.

We can keep you in the loop/let you know if stock becomes available in time for your trip.

  • Good stuff! Literally impulse booked a Japan trip with the missus yesterday for June, and this deal is very timely. 2 SIMs purchased - will provide feedback once we're done with the trip. I don't expect any problems, given every travel SIM to Japan I've used in recent years have all been with KDDI.

    • Sounds fantastic - and thanks so much for your order!

The KDDI (au) eSIM is definitely a great product; simply install it before you go, switch it on when you land in Japan, and you'll be connected automatically.

Enjoy your trip - and looking forward to your feedback!

  • Thanks OP, I'm looking for an Indonesia eSim to start July for 14 days.
If I buy now, install in Aus now, but then activate it when I land in Indo in July?
Does the 14-day 'countdown' start automatically as soon as it starts using data in Indo?

    • +1

That's correct - our regular roaming eSIMs (including what we have available for Indo) can be installed at any time before you leave. We generally recommend this as you need internet for the download process.

The eSIM will automatically activate when you land in Indonesia and connect to the local network - that's also the point at which your 14 days would commence. Just be sure to double check the welcome email for any roaming/APN settings you might need to set before you leave.

If you're travelling anywhere else in Asia, we do also have the Asia Pacific eSIM - I'd highly recommend you untick the "include Australia" box if you grab that plan (otherwise installing the eSIM in Australia would kick off the plan straight away, since it's a supported country!).

  • OP, your pricing for reloadable eSIM, at least for Japan, is …unusual.

    Choosing 7 days expiry:
    1GB is $1.52 ($1.52/GB)
    3GB is $7.16 ($2.39/GB)

The price per GB is cheapest for the smallest plan?

    • +1

      Hi Russ!

Yes, we currently have some introductory pricing intended for new users on selected destinations. These plans will be adjusted soon and replaced with a new offer.

  • Hi OP. Is 50% off applied to all JP plans or only the ones shown in your table with the flame icon?

    • Hi wire!

It applies to all of the Japan Unlimited plan durations. The fire/flame icon is just to highlight some of the popular/most ordered plans we have, so it's easy to skim through the post and see prices at a glance.

      • Great - thanks!

  • Hi, can I buy an esim for Japan for both my wife and I under the Same account? Or is my mobile phone number somehow linked with the esim?

    • Hi George2021,

You certainly can! You can purchase up to 10 eSIMs per order. Upon making payment, the details for each eSIM will be emailed and made available in the web portal and mobile app. They aren’t tied to your phone number per se - they just live in your account, if you choose to make one.

  • Hello BambooSIM. First time using an eSIM, so just checking how this works. We are going to Singapore next month. Flying in arriving on a Friday night, coming back during the day on Thursday. I take it I should get a 7 day eSIM, install in the morning we travel while still in Australia and it will activate automatically on arrival in Singapore, yes?

    • Hi Yapapi!

That's correct! The eSIM will be valid for 7x 24 hour blocks, so a Friday night to Thursday daytime trip should fit nicely within that period.

You can install at any time before you travel (and we always recommend doing so as you need internet to download the eSIM). Once installed, there's a very quick configuration you need to do:
      - For iOS, once the eSIM is installed please switch on 'data roaming' for it. Note that some iOS versions may show an 'Unable to Active eSIM' message. This is normal and occurs purely because the eSIM can't connect to the network from outside the destination country - but the eSIM still installs and simply needs to be switched on with data roaming enabled upon landing.
      - For Android, please ensure data roaming is set to 'all networks', and that the APN (access point name) is set to globaldata - just the Name & APN field need to be set.

If you need a hand with the setup or have any other questions about the product, just let us know!
