Problem with this series is that it gives you too much to begin with, particularly these deluxe editions. Not giving much incentive to work your way up. However, the graphics and gameplay have always been outstanding.

    • You're getting negged, but I agree. Especially with the car wheel in the previous game.

    • +9

Reportedly this one has you start as a rookie with a shit car and you have to earn licenses akin to the older GT games. Remains to be seen how that plays out with reviews though.

      • +3

Heard this too. Believe it when I see it. The lack of a relationship goal or progress has been a problem with these for ages.

      • +1

The VIP membership included in premium edition (or add-on) will still have sufficient quality of life improvement like before to entice people to buy (obviously the 2 expansion packs is a bigger reason).

        • 2x Credit Boost: Permanently doubles credit rewards for races, easing car purchases.
        • 3 Exclusive Forza Edition Cars: Specialized vehicles with unique perks.
        • Weekly Super Wheelspins: Weekly bonus spins to unlock rare cars and vanity items.
        • Exclusive Player Home: A "Tokyo City House" in the suburb

It's much less work and a better way to enjoy the game for busy people.

        • +2

It's much less work and a better way to enjoy the game for busy people.

It's also "Pay to skip the artificial difficulty", similar to mobile games where you earn 15 gems per level but can watch can ad to triple that to 45 gems (or buy ad-free to permanently get 45 gems per level!). If the option to boost the output didn't exist, then the credits/gems cost of items would have been much lower to avoid player burnout.

          • @Jonzay: It's been like that for pretty much every Forza Horizon. My main gripe with Premium Edition is that we don't get to know what the two expansions are until much later. If I knew the expansions for Forza Horizon 5 were before hand, I wouldn't have purchased the premium edition add on. FH4, I only liked one of the expansion packs.

Forza Horizon 5 was buggy during the early access phase, I lost a in game house purchase initially, lucky it was the house included in the VIP pass, so I just re-purchased it. However, if I grinded all the credits to purchase that house and had to talk to Microsoft Support to get it back, I would be quite annoyed. I didn't bother chasing Microsoft for the missed in game credits due to the cloud save didn't work properly (because with the VIP add on, you don't need to worry about in game credits).

With GamePass Ultimate (it used to be dirt cheap), using Microsoft reward points for a Xbox gift card, the premium add-on for FH5 for me was about $10 out of pocket. With the crazy price hike and zero FH6 discount for Game Pass Ultimate, I won't be buying.

          • @Jonzay: Not all people want ‘artificial difficulty’ for a game that’s basically identical to the past 5 games but with a new map. They just wanna be able to slay a cool new map with similar cars they had in their previous games and enjoy driving in. This helps that

            • +2

              @Kayrhcp: 100% agree.

I hate how people want games to be a grind now. Gaming is meant to be fun, not so serious and requiring spending hundreds of hours on.

            • @Kayrhcp: I'm agreeing with you. What I'm saying is that they're intentionally making the game a long grind in order to be able to sell an option to lower the grind. If for some reason they were unable to sell an option to lower the grind, they never would have made the grind as long as it is in the first place.

    • +8

much incentive to work your way up

It’s an arcade racer. It’s meant to be fun. Not work.

Having fun racing is the incentive.

There was no working your way up with Daytona. The greatest arcade racer.

      • +1

apples and oranges. Most people are not sitting down to session daytona. You jump on after a movie at the arcade, and thats fine.

        • Most people are not sitting down to session daytona.

12 year old PainToad was in the 90s on his Sega Saturn.

          • @PainToad: Yeah we can save games now, so actual progression is expected

    • It's what bored me with 4 and especially 5.

    • +1

I dunno. I feel like you become numb to the cars being thrown at you and stick with ones you know are actually good. Having played the older ones, including very recently, I prefer to have many cars to screw around with than to only be able to afford two cars a week and have a 90% chance they’re not even be good to drive.

      That’s just me though.

    • +2

Same thing with me recently in the last few games. I stopped playing 5 because it got boring quickly - its so easy to get heaps of money and the best cars within the first few hours of playing. Once I got bored with driving around, there wasn't really a reason to keep playing as there was no sense of progression to chase.

    • Hey! I don’t see a problem with that given we live in a pay to win society

    • +1

As much as I love farming to buy new cars to test out, when a friend buys Forza and the rest of us are stuck with their singular sports car, it's a bit annoying. So having a good starter kit of cars is quite welcome to me.

  • +13

I'm concerned it's going to be more of the same, 3 was great, 4 was cool, 5 was a bit boring. MSRP $189 for the ultimate edition is crazy.

    • +1

Interesting, 3 was my first Horizon game, so I figured maybe it was that everything afterwards felt kind same-y? My experience matched yours though

      • +1

No same, 3 was the first I played too

        • +1

I feel like the Japan setting will raise this one big time for me at least. I'm obsessed with 80s-90s Japanese cars especially, and Japan in general to a lesser extent

      • I've played all and they all felt samey. The lack of clear progression started to hurt the game. Like play for fun I guess but a goal is also nice. Instead of just getting given fancy cars from the start.

    • Similar experience here too

Started with 2 (on a mates Xbox one) but 3 was the best. (Bought Xbox one just for that game!)

4 was meh, 5 was trying too hard…to much Taco Bell guacamole feel to it.

6 seems fresh enough - will be the first one I get on PS5.

      • If it wasnt coming to ps5 would you get it on pc or xbox?

        • Xbox - as prior FH are on Xbox as well

Console gamer here though. Minimal PC. (Until steam Machine comes along)

Wait though - I thought if one purchase Xbox version they also can play pc version free of charge? Or am I mistaken?

          • @YoursTruly: Yer buy on xbox play anywhere meaning pc and xbox. If you have handheld this it great to be able to play pc on the go then console at home.

    • I own FH 1 - 5 (back purchased the original and 2 before being delisted)….. I've NEVER finished a single one lol. I got 'close' to finishing 2 and 3, never quite got there.

Its like I do a few races but lose interest quickly. I don't know what it is about the Forza franchise (similar issue with the standard FM 2, 3, 4 and 5….. but I did complete 6 & 7), Gran Turismo holds my attention much better. Maybe if FH had more of a menu screen selection vs picking a destination then driving to it…. I'd fare better.

    • Which is why I'm just going to get a couple of months of PC Game Pass instead, have some fun until I burn out (bring back that series), play some other games.

  • +10

As someone that games on Linux this is sad, the sale only applies for Microsoft Store and not to Steam

    • +1

Thank you. Microslop store is a hard pass.

  • +1

How legitimate is this site to purchase from?

    • Yeah given it gives both expansions (which are usually substantial for FH), I'm quite tempted to get premium for $130… Worried about the site though

      • Dunno if it means much but there have been other deals from Instant Gaming on OzB.

    • +1

I've used this site for Ready or Not (Steam) and FF, have received pretty good customer service and they provided a full refund where there were issues.

    • i buy from here every now and then. no issues so far

    • +1

This same deal was posted a couple months ago, bought it from them.
Surprisingly I received my key a week or 2 ago, when I was expecting right before release.
It's already activated in my xbox account, ready to pre-install closer to release.
So at least for this game, I have had a great experience. Would get me to give them a shot again in the future.

    • +2

I went to buy this last time this deal was posted, payment went through and then they asked for photo ID. Otherwise would refund. I took the refund and closed my account.

I had purchased through them before with no such issue. I’ve since found out the business is based in the UAE.

    • Bought this yesterday from these guys. Got the code instantly on screen, and also in email. Pasted the activation code into MS Store, et voila game downloaded (~140GB!) and installed no issue.

Having problems sharing it with my son's account on the same PC though. He's part of my MS Family, tried logging into MS Store as me while logged the PC as him - not appearing in the MS Store even though it dows when logged into the PC as me.

      Does anyone have any ideas?

      • While you stay logged into the MS Store, has he logged into the Xbox app?

        • Logged into both Xbox and MS Store apps as myself while logged into the PC as my son - nada on either.

Interestingly, while logged into the PC and the Xbox app as myself, it show up, installed and good to go. If I then log into the MS Store, it also shows up, but not installed.

          More digging required.

It really shouldn’t be this hard. Has me thinking we should have bought through Steam where game sharing between accounts on the same PC just works.

  • +9

    Steam edition wouldve been nice

  • +2

Im not using that rubbish Microsoft store

    • +3

Yeah Microsoft store sucksss. I guess the good thing is it could be an Xbox anywhere game so it might work on both Xbox and PC.

  • Remember when they tried to raise AAA games to $100+ for standard? That kind of died away didn't it

  • +5

Standard edition available for $65.49 and deluxe for $95.26 https://gg.deals/game/forza-horizon-6/

    • Hmm Prem edition is so much cheaper there - G2A, Gamivo etc

    • Does that activate on Steam?

      • +1

nah i havnt seen any decent cheaper steam deals yet

  • +3

I wish Burnout 3 Takedown was on Gamepass.

  • +9

Upvoted but realised its MicroSlop store and not steam

    • +1

You can withdraw votes just saying.

  • +2

I don't think any AAA game post $150 has been worth it recently. I'm a cyberpunk victim. I'll wait until the dust settles and it's further on sale. I always hate myself for paying full price for junk. For anyone who wants flexibility of multiple platforms and to get it early - good deal off RRP.

    • +2

$150 for Battlefield 6 with shitty cosmetics
      $200 for Borderlands 4
$120 for Silent Hill f (fun but was released DRM-free on GOG a week or two later)

Almost $500 down back in Sep-Oct and I felt dumb as hell.

      • +1

$500 is a lot of money too. Sorry to hear. I feel like the products don't match basic expectations too. Last Forza I got, Forza Motorsport, I preordered it and it was rubbish for ages, they fixed it a fair bit and now they've dropped it anyway. 🤷‍♂️

  • Payment keeps getting rejected, anyone else? NAB card, Paypal both say the same.

    • Yeah, had my CBA card suspended when it picked up the merchant as Instant Gaming Dublin. Had it unlocked over the phone supposedly but still getting rejected at the moment.

  • +1

    2026 and doesn't support VR?

    • Forza Horizon is really not that type of game. It's very arcadey. I don't know of any similar games that are VR unless you go into Sims like Assetto Corsa.

I love VR but it's a very small and decreasing crowd too. It's also a lot more work to make and most people are happy to buy Forza horizon for their single screen anyway.

  • for everyone who purchased, did you get a code right away or code sent to you on release day?

    • +2

Got it straight away and redeemed successfully on MS

      • Did you pay via credit card or debit?

        • +1

          credit card

Edit: to help as many people out. I used google auth to login. Made the purchase on my credit card and got asked for 2fa through the app. Got the code immediately and redeemed successfully.

    • +3

They want a photo of government issued ID (drivers license / passport) after I purchased…thats not going to happen..

      • I've been buying game keys since the very beginning. In all those years, Instant Gaming has been the only store to have suspended one of my orders and make such a request. I cancelled that order I made straight after. It was the first time and last time I've used them. Turned me off them for good. It was only a $4 game too. Smh.

      • Bizarre. They didn't ask for my ID. I wonder what prompted it

        • have you made purchases with them before?
I just created an account and tried to make a purchase for the first time last night using paypal. Pretty disappointing, but it is a valid method of fraud prevention.. I didnt want to provide the photo, so they cancelled and refunded my order. Annoying because it was a pretty great price for the Premium Edition of FH6 :(

          • @DanielP2: Yeah I bought Ready or Not and Final Fantasy from them. Didn't ask for any ID or anything. I used a credit card though, not PayPal.

            How odd…

  • +7

Hard choice between $130 here or $180 on steam…

    But I think I'll stick with Steam…

    • +1

Easy choice if you really want the game day 1, Microsoft store is awful.

    • +1

Easy choice if you want to play on PC and XBOX
      :)

It really depends on what you want from it. I always buy on MS store for the Play Anywhere games. Always Steam if I only wanna play on PC.

      • +3

Steam version allows you to play on Steam deck or similar devices running Steam OS (linux based). You can't do that with the Microsoft store version. So Microsoft's PlayAnywhere version isn't really play anywhere. XBox Studio games play best on a PC with high end graphics card. The current expectation is the next gen XBox will run Windows (and will likely allow installing Steam).

        • good point :)

        • There's no confirmation about 3rd party stores on Project Helix, their CEO clarified this.

Having the Xbox Play Anywhere copy means you can play on the majority of PCs as the majority are Windows, not Steam. It also means you can play via cloud, know it's already Helix optimised and emjoy it on your console.

Steam is good if it's your platform of choice. Doesn't make it the option to choose for everyone. This is a great deal for the PC and console versions.

          • @RaijnAU:

It also means you can play via cloud

You need GamePass Ultimate for that. If you have that, why would you buy the Microsoft store version (unless you want to stop GamePass Ultimate).

The main point is that Play Anywhere is only Play on Windows + XBox Consoles. Steam version now = Play on Windows + Linux. I still have 2 months of GamePass Ultimate left. However, after that, I need to seriously consider where there is any real benefit keeping XBox Series X. My most recent game trade in to EB games for XBox games were bad. Same game, XBox version's trade in value was 50% of the PS5 version. Had I knew that, I would have purchased the PS5 version.

The main problem is Steam version (with its linux support) has something Play Anywhere doesn't have. In the current state, how valuable is the XBox console support? Microsoft will release a PS5 version of Forza Horizon 6. Clearly that means a linux version for PS5, but no, the Play Anywhere version can't run on a PC running linux.

            • @netsurfer:

You need GamePass Ultimate for that.

No, you only need Essential which one may have if you're a multiplayer console gamer.

In the current state, how valuable is the XBox console support?

That's up to the individual. Probably a lot to someone who enjoys couch gaming and either wants to future-proof with a PC copy or to use now on their desktop/handhelds.

On top of all that, this is cheaper too.

    • I went with steam because I am curious to try it out on the steam deck. My xsx just collects dust these days anyway

  • +1

Given I no longer own an Xbox and just have gaming PC (and a new Steam controller on the way so I can play over Steam Link to my TV), is there any incentive to buy the Microsoft Store version anymore?

I remember in some previous Forza games you got bonuses for being a returning Forza player (I've owned/played every Forza and Forza Horizon game since the first of each series on my Xbox account).

    • +3

It's cheaper. I am thinking about using my Microsoft reward points on XBox gift cards towards buying the premium add-on (still have about 2 months worth of GamePass Ultimate left). However, I am disappointed there is no special offer for GamePass Ultimate users this time (there were for FH4 and FH5).

FH6, for me, the main incentive is that it is set in Japan. As for better progression, that's just bringing more of the things people like from Forza Horizon 3 back. However, I played too many Forza Horizon games already (2, 3, 4, 5).

      • +2

Reddit seems to indicate that if I buy on Steam, I'll still need to sign into my XB gamertag anyway and will get the bonuses for being a reutrning player which seem pretty significant: https://www.windowscentral.com/gaming/forza/you-can-start-fo…

Given I need Steam Link/Steaminput support, and no longer have an Xbox (and no plans to buy Xbox again in the future), I think I'll wait for a Steam sale/third party discount here.

        • +1

Good memory on the free cars for playing previous Forza Horizon games (and it looks like it is the case for Forza Horizon 6).

  • +4

If you're only intending on playing for a month or two, might as well just subscribe to PC Game Pass for a couple months

  • Are there any websites that offer discounts on PlayStation 5 games? Instant Games has a wide selection for Xbox and Steam.

  • I've just pre - installed the game on my xbox via Game pass ultimate. Will it be possible to upgrade std edition to Premium or VIP for a small fee I wonder?

    • They usually have a $40-60 “premium add on” bundle you can buy for the dlc with using gamepass version.

      Nevermind it’s $95 for it

  • +1

I would happily pay $130 for the steam premium edition. Cannot find it cheaper than $189 on the steam storefront atm though. Key retailers are $200+

    • Same. Prefer not to buy it on Xbox/Windows Store.

I think Microsoft knows this haha.

  • +1

Going to just get 1 month of games pass ultimate, I stopped playing FH5 after a few weeks anyway, bought the full premium back then and didn't even play the expansions when they came out years later.

  • there is a TON of negative reviews on this website, can anyone confirm if they have preordered this and it worked as expected?

    • I ordered a key for the premium upgrade and it's against my account. Results may vary.

    • Ordered Premium Edition. Paid using PayPal. Code provided right away. Redeemed on Xbox and worked fine - currently downloading.

  • 156GB. With NBN and astigmatism, damn I wish they'd just release 1080/1440p versions of games you could download instead

    • It should only take an hour lol if you've got 500 down and an nvme

      • Brother I have skymuster lol, what's this 500 you speak of

        • oh no not the skymuster 😭. Have you looked into starlink 👀

    • Do you wear glasses?
