Earn 10 Qantas Points Per $1 on Apple Digital Gift Cards ($25-$500) @ Qantas Marketplace

750

Offer

Tips from FreePoints:

  • Plus, you can earn an extra 1.25x Qantas points per dollar spent if you pay with a Qantas Pay prepaid card (or potentially more with certain credit cards).

  • Whilst 10x Qantas points is the same amount you would earn from buying Apple gift cards during a 20x Everyday Rewards points offer at Woolworths (2 Everyday Rewards = 1 Qantas point), this offer is more convenient as it’s online and there aren’t any purchase limits.

  • You also don’t have to worry about buying Apple gift cards that have been physically tampered with because the ones sold on Qantas Marketplace are all digital.

  • Apple will let you purchase devices online using your account balance loaded with up to $4,999 in gift cards plus another eight unredeemed gift cards on top.

  • Warning: Make sure you don’t accidentally pay for the gift cards using your Qantas points because it’s terrible value. Move the slider all the way over so you’re exclusively using cash.

Thanks for this! I'm still a bit wary about buying the gift codes from coles/woollies so this will come in handy!

  • Is it also the same value wise as the fly buy offer?

    • +2

      Yes.

  • -2

Is it equivalent to 10% off? Can you convert points to cash?

    • No doesn’t work like that. You can’t convert qantas points to cash. You use the points for flights

    • Yes, Qantas points regularly sell for 1-1.4c each, which makes the effective discount 10-14% off.

    • You can use points to purchase things from affiliated stores. Say Bunnings or at BP shell or so. For bunnings, you need redeem code which u can get in their app.

It depends. If you fly with Qantas it's worth 15 - 50% extra value depending on the flight. If not, it's about 5% standard for marketplace points purchases.

    • If you want 10% off wait for a Woolies 20x points deal, then keep using the 2,000 points for $10 off.

It's against Qantas ToS to sell points (but many get away with it), but their value for business class flights can be upto ~4c/pt (it's been nerfed recently, was 6c+ at times).

      • Which route can the Qantas points be valued as 4c/pt? Just checked the Aus-HK biz return flight and the value is about 1.5 c/pt.

        • It use to be Emirates routes first class, but I wouldn’t fly them right now + I believe they changed the points.

There’s a site for bulk lookups that does a comparison to the retail price but I forget which it is

          Edit:
          3rd June Syd to Dublin emirates 299,300 + $1,718
          Retail: $14,812
          Value of points: $13,094
          Value per point: 4.3c

Just as a random example, it’s certain routes which work best. Note emirates requires silver Qantas status to book now though. Also note they upped the points cost recently for emirates - it was something like 220k. Others may be better now.

You have to do some digging, Qantas has their own tool for it now though: https://flightrewardfinder.qantas.com/

          Edit 2:
Syd > DFW first (Qantas) 20th May
          Retail: $19,766
          Reward: 227,800 + $695
          ~8.3c a point

Business is better value imo (less cents per a point but first is a waste other than a once off experience), but just as an example of how valuable the points can be at times. This is just random examples I quickly found.

          Edit 3:
SYD > London business 15th Jan
          182,900 + $594
          Retail: $9044
          4.6c/pt

Seems it’s closer to 4c/pt now, use to be 6c.

          For your route:
Syd > HKG (Qantas) business July 16
          Retail: $4281
          82,100 + $252
          4.9c/pt

Woolies not allowing customers to buy gift cards on its app is a poor decision, as people are worrying about scams with physical gift cards.

    • Maybe I’m misunderstanding but digital Apple gift cards are available in the Everyday Rewards app.

      • Sorry, I meant to earn the points during the promotion.

I have got $300 credit in everyday reward, can i use that to buy apple GC? cant buy it directly from woolies as they dont allow

    • I believe you can convert them to Qantas points at a ratio of 2:1, but spending Qantas points in their store is like 0.6c/pt - much better to use for flights.

  • Which credit cards earn the extra 1.25x points? Qantas Money Platinum?

    • +3

You don’t need a credit card. The Qantas Pay reloadable prepaid card earns 1.25x points on Qantas Marketplace and it’s available to everyone (no credit check required).

There are also some credit cards that earn even more points per dollar such as the Qantas American Express Ultimate.

      • Looks like the Qantas Platinum Card I ordered last week has an extra point per dollar, effective discount closer to 15% now! Thanks for posting

  • About to drop 5k+ on a MBP. Prolly a good way to double dip into CC points and now another 50k qantas points.

OP, so you're saying to buy something like what I have in mind, I need to load up $4999 on my apple wallet then use other GCs for the remainder (so potentially another eight GCs x $500 = 4k max value in addition to the $4999?)

  • Can someone clarify, I can use these online to buy an apple watch from Apple store?
    Ta!

  • I’m at checkout and I see that the $3500 of gift cards will earn me 35,000 points. I enter my Qantas Platinum Card details, but I see no indication that the extra points will be awarded. According to the card page, if I use a Qantas Money Platinum Credit Card and the purchase qualifies as “Qantas Spend” at 2 points/$1, then:

    3500* 2 = 7,000 extra points

Does Qantas recognise I’ve used a Qantas card and send the points later?

    • Credit card pts are early with bank statement cycle, not via Qantas directly.

My Qantas CC normally have two points debited every month, normal spend earned and bouns (Qantas spend)

  • I bought them, but just a reminder that you are forced to call Qantas to verify - 8am-7pm AEST

  • 20% off when buying with points. Still terrible value?

    • Eg buying $3000 of Apple Gift Cards gets you 30,000 points. Sell your 30,000 points for 1.3c per point = $390. Final price $2610 which is a 13% discount. Pay with a Qantas Credit Card for some extra points and you can get that up to an effective 15% off

      • But how to sell this 30k points?

        • Ozbargain classifieds or eBay

Some very BAD news - Apple has just introduced UNIDAYS verification for purchases from the Australian Apple.Edu store :-(

  • $500 card no longer available?

  • Can someone confirm, AOC also get 5% cashback from this promotion?

    Thank you.

    • Yes AOC works, just add gift cards to your apple account (max $5000)
