La Costena Chipotle in Adobo Sauce 230g $4.99 @ ALDI

600

This is probably not for everyone, but I do like to cook some Mexican recipes using this sauce. Usually $6.50 at Colesworth, sometimes goes on sale but have never seen it under $5.

Elite tier condiment. Have it with everything!

    • I've always used as a marinade… so you can use it to dip as well?

      • Chuck it in a cheese + protein sanga and then toast it in the sandwich press. It is good!

        • I need to try this today!

    • Never tried this, how would it go with noodles?

Not as good as La Morena

I thought adobo was a Filo thing. Did it come from Spain or something? Thanks for making me hungry, OP.

it is, but its very different to mexican adobo

  • My goto burrito ingredient for black beans in adobo.

  • Excellent condiment for making refried beans.

Hardly a bargain IMO, when Woolies often discount 30-50%.

Classic recipe for using chipotles as per reddit. Not real carnitas but amazing:

    • daymn, saw the sauce the other day and thought "i should get that, but what could i use it in?"

you, sir, saved the day - this is something I will make

      • I do black beans to go with tacos with this stuff - a diced onion, a tin of drained black beans, a tin of chopped tomatoes (Italian, not Aussie - Aussie are too watery), and some paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper and tablespoon of this stuff. Works a treat and super easy too. If you have any bacon or chorizo or anything knocking around in the fridge, finely diced and throw that in too

      • When I started cooking years ago this got me into and has been a staple in my life ever since hah. Once you get the taste of chipotles and how to use them, they're very useful things to have around.

  • This stuff is incredible at adding deep flavour to Mexican dishes.

    Highly refined soybean oil….no thanks

      Is that the real 50cent?

Amazing stuff. Apart from the obvious use in Mexican cuisine, i Blend this with cream and toss pasta in it. Top it off with Parmesan. Tried it in a restaurant in America, been making it since.

So it's 1c cheaper than you've seen it before, and it gets top rated and bumped to the front page? Bizarre.

      It's very rarely below $6.50.

Use this to make my low cal version of Nandos perinaise with greek yoghurt. Amazing stuff.

    • Can you share your recipe?

      • Sure.

        • 1/2 cup light mayonnaise
        • 1/2 cup high protein plain yoghurt
        • 1 tbsp chipotle in adobo sauce (adjust amount for heat level)
        • 1 tbsp lime juice
        • 1 tsp honey
        • Salt and pepper to taste

Mix all together in a blender until smooth. This makes about 260-270ml. You can double the recipe if you want more.

I also make a very small amount of cornflour slurry and add it to the sauce and heat it without boiling to help thicken it as I use a squeeze bottle to use it.
